GM Canada Sales Decrease 13.7 Percent To 77,643 Units In Second Quarter 2019

GM Canada sales decreased 13.7 percent to 77,643 units during the second quarter of 2019. Sales decreased at all GM brands – Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC.

GM Canada Sales Notes – Q2 2019

“While Q2 sales were in line with the industry, we continued to see growth across our light duty pick-ups, crossovers, SUVs and electric vehicles,” said Scott Bell, vice president, sales, service and marketing at GM Canada. “Customers are responding to the design, technology and functionality across GM’s lineup of award-winning vehicles.”

Light duty pick-up total sales increased 4.3 percent year-over-year in Q2, driven by the all-new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (up 17.9 percent) and GMC Sierra 1500 (up 31.5 percent) Crew Cab models.

“We expect momentum to continue into the third quarter as Chevrolet and GMC’s all-new heavy-duty pickups hit Canadian dealerships in July,” Bell added.

Full-size utilities were also up for Chevrolet and GMC, with Q2 total sales adding 2.4 percent year-over-year.

The Chevrolet Bolt EV, GM’s fully electric vehicle, had its best Q2 ever with total sales up 57.7 percent. Consumer adoption of electric vehicles, particularly in British Columbia and Québec, is steadily gaining traction as federal incentives make it easier to purchase EVs.

GM Canada sales decreased 14.2 percent to 132,903 units in the first six months of 2019.

  1. Absolutely pitiful results. GM once owned the Canadian market.

  2. GM is successfully losing another important market. Glad they pissed off the whole country by shutting down Oshawa.
Now they sell us the Mexican fake Blazer and wonder why results were pitiful across the board.
GM/Chevrolet have a badly damaged brand image and I’m not sure what they are doing to fix it besides rare wins like the ZR2 Colorado.

  3. Oshawa mattered to Canada

  4. Dale/Dave
Killing the Cruze, Sonic, Volt & Lactosse. Also may be a reason sales are down.
GM stopped building the Regal in Canada a year and a half ago. It’s having its best year in over a decade.
Equinox built in Canada sales are pathetic.
Classic Silverado & Sierra now built in Canada. Sales are down.
Impala & Cadillac XTS about to be discounted sales are up.
The real lesson for GM is Canadians don’t care where their vehicles are built.

BTW- Get used to layoffs. At Canada’s other 4 automakers
FCA – announced their cutting minivan production. With Chrysler 300 sales falling off a cliff.
Ford also announced layoffs. Flex & Edge sales will also drop once the new Bronco hits the market.
Toyota moving some RAV4 production to Georgetown Kentucky.
at Honda CR-V sales have been flat for years & Civic sales are falling

    1. Peter G. , can you explain why GMC is down across the board in a Truck/SUV crazy market?! That is brutal.

  5. By comparison, in a declining market like the US in June, ford sales were flat which means they gained market share.

OSHAWA MATTERED A LOT FOR CANADIANS.
