Isuzu has issued a recall for certain 2018 to 2020 model year Chevrolet 6500XD Low Cab Forward trucks over an issue related to the vehicle’s steering. Isuzu’s number for this recall is V1902.
The defect: According to Isuzu, which manufactures the large Chevy-badged trucks for General Motors, the jam nut for the steering stopper bolt on the left front steering knuckle “may loosen and allow the bolt to back away from the steering knuckle, increasing the turning radius of the vehicle in a left turn.”
The hazards: The recall filing indicates that having increased steering radius could increase the risk of a crash. The driver would only experience increased turning radius when making a left-hand turn.
The remedy: Isuzu will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. The dealer will then replace the existing left and right jam nuts with a more robust Grade 8 jam nut, torque the nut to a new torque specification and apply Loctite to the nut and bolt.
Affected vehicles: Certain 2018-2020 model year Chevrolet 6500XD trucks are affected.
Number of vehicles affected: 3,851 vehicles are affected in total in the United States.
Owners should: wait to be contacted by their dealer, who will then schedule a service appointment to fix the steering jam nut.
