Chevy has completely overhauled, redesigned and re-engineered the 2020 Silverado HD bow to stern. Besides the improved capability, a new powertrain lineup, and its controversial design aesthetics, the all-new heavy duty beast will also offer several packages that were previously never offered on the Silverado HD. One of these packages is the Dark Essentials Package.
Assigned GM RPO Code PDB and priced at $395, the Dark Essentials Package for the 2020 Silverado HD gives the heavy duty pickup truck black badges, including:
- Black front Bow Tie logo (SFZ)
- Black Silverado nameplate (RIK)
- Black 2500HD/3500HD model plate (RIK)
- Black trim nameplates (RIK)
- Black tailgate decal lettering (SB7)
The package is an LPO / dealer-installed option available on the 2020 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD models, but not on the Silverado 3500HD Chassis Cab (Chassis Cab) variant.

The photos shown here show the Dark Essentials Package on a 2020 Silverado HD 2500 in the LT trim, Summit White color with a Crew Cab and Standard Bed. And though some will undoubtedly look at the options in this package as little features that are unimportant in the grand scheme of things, we must say that it’s nice to see Chevy a level of customization on its new Heavy Duty trucks, as the last-gen models did not offer such a package. After all, not everyone wants all that chrome on their truck.
As a reminder, engine options for the all-new 2020 Silverado HD include the all-new 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, which is mated to the GM six-speed 6L90 automatic transmission and produces 401 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 464 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel L5P V8 making 445 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 910 pound-feet of torque at 1,600 rpm is optional. It is coupled with the GM-designed and Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.

I like this package but what I would like even more is a regular bow tie grill package/option on the LTZ and down trims. The High Country center bow tie bar might be a direct fit but then your going to have High Country embossed on it. The front bed steps are a good idea but I would also like to see a front bed step delete option for those who prefer the clean look.
Yes, a front bed step delete for those of us who will immediately put a cap on the bed and will never have need of that step.
(Edit to my first post) Upon closer inspection I don’t think the High Country center bow tie bar would work without replacing the entire grill and lower panel. Even more reason why there should be a bow tie option on the LTZ and down trims.
I hate the idea of paying extra to delete chrome, but really hate the idea that I can’t delete chrome even if I pay for it!
I have to stop at the highest trim level that still has a split bench front seat.
You can get a WT 2500/2500 without chrome, the next model is Custom, the next is High Country. Just not LT or LTZ. Maybe they will offer and RST in the future.
I hate that I can’t get LTZ without chrome in the 1500. I have to build up an RST
Black Lettering? $400 from GM or buy a $6 can of Plastidip from Pep Boys. Your choice.
$400 in the US, not bad, will be $1200 in Canada and require Convenience Package II for another $3500, guaranteed lol
…I thought Canada was boycotting GM products because of Oshawa plant being idled.
Oshawa is a crap hole city and maybe they are. But one car plant closing isn’t enough to rally a nation to boycott. People were more upset over bread price fixing at grocery stores.
Canada isn’t like the US, almost no one researches a vehicle’s origin of manufacture and then goes on borderline, or full blown, racist rants about Mexicans or Koreans.
I’m afraid you are painting with quite a broad brush and it is causing you to look quite foolish.
I suggest putting an end to it.
Lol ok sorry
One note though. People that deny, or turn a blind eye to rampant racism as a continued problem in the US are no better than the racists themselves.
You have a troubling fascination with the 21st century buzzword “racism”. Perhaps getting a second job will occupy the time you habitually waste on looking for somebody to call a racist. Ugh…
Have a good day.
bout time to fouck off again, isn’t it?
Let’s try having an intelligent conversation, jackie. There’s no need to act tough from the safety of your lounge chair.
Now, what did you want to discuss?
Another Sticker Edition? Well, at least it’s not $3500 like the Heritage (sticker) Edition.
Looks good. I liked the 2017/2018 midnight packages on the HDs.
I’m a Chevy man, but looking at that thing they call a truck no wonder Silverado is in third place. Keep it up Chevy design team maybe you’ll work you way 6th spot.
Hi!! The 2500 is a beast and a beautiful thing to look at and I’m sure it would make hauling the camper a breeze!! I’m a life long Chevy fan and customer and I would LOVE to own one of these bad boys! So if you boys are feeling generous, can I have one!?!? Please please please please!! Keep on making em strong and making em last long! We appreciate it.
Thanks!! Have a good one!!
I used to be a huge Chevy guy. But these truck look ridiculous this design team is blind. Ford and dodge have not just jumped but leaped over Chevy as far as looks and interior. Sorry. But my next truck will be a ford.
Perhaps some of you that so critical could just step up and publish your own design. Let’s just see how good you are at what the Chevy team does. I only wish I could get me a new Chevy. But when you get ran over and disabled buying a truck like this is no more than just a dream. I think the new Chevy’s are pretty damn cool. Who’s gives a darn what Ford and Dodge did I haven’t even looked.
Is there an option for just a traditional gold bow-tie up front instead of “CHEVROLET”?
I like it spelled out on the tailgate, but not up front.
What the hell does racism have to do with that fugly truck?
