2020 Cadillac CT6 Sport Discontinued

The 2020 Cadillac CT6 Sport has been discontinued from the automaker’s lineup, according to GM Authority’s sister site, Cadillac Society.

The Cadillac CT6 Sport was introduced for the 2019 model year as part of the automaker’s Y-trim level strategy. The Y-trim level strategy entailed breaking each Cadillac model off into two branches, with one being focused on luxury and the other focused on sportiness and performance.

Cadillac Y Trim Level Strategy from XT4 presentation

Cadillac vehicles with the Sport designation are marketed as being more performance-focused than the base level Luxury models, but are not as sport-oriented as V-Sport products. As such, the 2020 Cadillac CT6 Sport attempted to bridge the gap between the base CT6 and the CT6 V-Sport – which would later be renamed CT6-V.

With the departure of the Cadillac CT6 Sport, the remaining trim levels include the base-level Luxury, followed by Premium Luxury, Platinum, and the high-powered CT6-V, Cadillac Society points out.

Setting the Cadillac CT6 Sport apart from other versions of the sedan are its trim-specific gloss black grille, body color front splitter and rear fascia, black window trim outline and 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the Cadillac CT6 Sport has General Motors’ twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 LGW engine, which is good for 404 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. That engine is also going away across the board in the 2020 CT6, as we reported previously.

By simplifying the CT6 lineup, Cadillac was able to save costs and offer more standard content in the remaining trims, explained Cadillac brand representative Stefan Cross.

“We decided to streamline the trim offerings, and are only offering Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum and V-Series,” Cross said in an interview with Cadillac Society. “This has allowed us to increase the standard content we offer on each trim. For example, Super Cruise is now standard on Premium Luxury. The new standard content features high penetrating options that are in most demand from customers.”

  1. Blind leading the blind. KEEP ON COURSE! So frustrating with Cadillac right now, they really have no clear direction or plan on what or who they are or want to be.

    1. Number of people I know personally interested in buying a sedan. Zero. Number of acquaintances at work interested in a sedan. Nobody. America is a SUV nation. Sedans are like coal fired power plants – on the way out and nobody should be building a new one.

      1. I am interested in a sedan !!!!

And know a lot of sedan owners !!!

NONE however are driving GM sedans !!

GM just CAN NOT figure out the American sedan owner of today !!

I would love to buy a number six Cadillac sedan !! But NOT a CT5 with a 2.0T. When GM finally figures out what the American Cadillac owner of today wants it will be to late.

A Cadillac CT5 Premium Luxury with a 2.7T – 10 speed please, or I guess the more gas using more parts using 3.0TT would do, but who knows anything about what the low level V even is and how does anyone know what is coming !

Cadillac changes their mind daily !!!

Wait, and Wait, and Wait, then they tell you what you will get until they release something completely different !!

That’s why you get the Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha.

      1. The answer to your question depends. Are the other brands REALLY doing that much better ?

In the USA or China ? And who do you mean by, other brands ?

What class do YOU put Cadillac in now days ? Luxury or just another GM – Chevy ?

And WHAT new products ? Did you mean new fenders, lights and hoods ?

Because the XT4 new product is a GM 2.0T 9 speed FWD SUV !!!!!! looks different Cadillac look, depends who you ask !!!!

XT5 same old, new grill, lights, fenders, hood. Same old 3.6 GM average or below blah !!!!

XT6, wait for it —– All New —- ” O ” that’s right just another 7 seat mid sized GM — Chevy with, again 3.6 average blah !!!

CT5, Great an ALL NEW tweener like the old tweeners only LESS —- 2.0T lowest HP and Torque in its class, but its ALL NEW !!!!!

CT4, or old ATS, I’m just not quite sure, but still again the lower HP and Torque version of the 2.0T that was less than enough in the old ATS.

I do like the ALL NEW or just makeover of the CT6, same as the old CT6 but again different lights, grill, fender, hood. AT LEAST they finally got rid of the less than enough same old AGAIN 2.0T in that car and it has a worthy engine Blackwing !!! —— ” O ” buts that’s right you can still get the SAME OLD GM 3.6 AVERAGE BLAH in that car also !!!!!

        Did I miss one ?

YEP sure did !!!!! wait for it !!!!!!! For now the SAME OLD GM – Chevy SUV – Escalade !!!

The new Escalade should be GREAT though, ONE MORE CHANCE for Cadillac to get it right !!!!

Wait for it —— Wait for it ——- Wait for it !!!!!!!!!!!

The Escalade dash pictures look promising, Maybe Cadillac will have ONE NEW VEHICLE in its onslaught of new vehicles !!!

And some of us are NOT haters, just realists !!!! I am a 5 time Cadillac owner and a 39 year GM only driver !!

Jackie G, please explain what is the clear direction of Cadillac that you see. To be more like an average Chevrolet ??

        1. DID YOU LEAVE OUT ONE??? YEAH, THE 2020 (???) ”CT8”!!! A TOTAL ”BREAKOUT” FROM YOUR DESCRIPTIONS!!! BUT, ”WHY” SKIP A ”CT7”?!!? MORE GM/CADILLAC ”NONSENSE”?!!?

          Reply
    3. You can forget the “Y” strategy. That is a concept too complicated for GM. The real strategy is to just import the Chinese version to the U.S. There is no factory designated to build the car after October.

  2. First the 3.0TT, now the sport trim.

I understand why. The Omega platform is too expensive to run so many varieties on a slower selling sedan.

This is why, bless De Nysschen’s heart, GM should’ve approved his plan for a CUV to spread out the cost.

I really wish GM had the foresight and financial commitment to Cadillac that tier one luxury brands have.

  3. I honestly give up on trying to figure out what Cheap you know what GM is trying to accomplish with Cadillac. All I know is that Cadillac deserved and deserves much, much better. It is extremely disheartening.

  4. November 2018: CT6 was ‘cancelled’ after 2019 MY (end of production in June 2019), a victim of the SUV craze

January 2019: Automotive News reports that Carlisle and Reuss said the CT6 wasn’t meant to be fully on the chopping block with other GM sedans, but that “officials at the time did not communicate those plans.” [Jalopnik]; a stay of execution, probably partly as a concession to the UAW and partly due to 275 CT6-V preorders moving within hours

February 2019: CT6 & Impala production confirmed to run until January 2020 (without any firm plans to move or maintain CT6 production in the US)

July 2019: 2020 CT6 lineup ‘simplified’ (typically one of the signs that a model is being phased out due to low demand)

January 2020: CT6 production ends in North America; importing from China is considered but declined due to low demand/tariffs/public perceptions about Chinese production.

I’m guessing that the plan announced last November, to end CT6 production in the US, really was the only alternative on the books at GM all along. Round and round we go…

  7. Who’s making these decisions? Might as well just kill the CT6 all together and spare it the death by a thousand cuts.

GM is not right in the head.

  8. Wait a minute, the Premium Luxury now have a a Quad-Zone climate control, but the V doesn’t? The second cheapest trim have QZ fitted as standard, but the most expensive one doesn’t have it at all? Who makes these decisions?

  9. If they’re going to kill the sport model, GM should still offer some sort of handling package similar to the old F41 or FE3 packages offered on other GM products. Use to be one or two grills offered for each vehicle and you were able to tell what year it was, not anymore.

  11. I seriously have been trying to figure out what GM and Cadillac are doing since they announced ”NO MORE SEDANS”; ”ONLY SUVS, CROSSOVERS AND TRUCKS” coming out of 2018! It is simply ”LUDICROUS” and ”ALL ABOUT THE MONEY”!!!As someone noted ’above’, ”GRILLES” and their ”LOOKS” are ”IMPORTANT” to me!!! And I am a ”CHROME” lover! As a former successful Arnold Palmer Cadillac Sales Advisor, I’ve driven STS’s, DHS’s, DTS’s, XTS’s Premium Luxury and the CT6 Premium Luxury as my own to date! Funny ? how ”GOOD” the LINCOLN CONTINENTAL, LEXUS, BMW, and AUDI are looking to me now?!!?

  12. Well, I ”STILL” like ”SEDANS” and recently purchased a new Cadillac CT6 Sedan and I’ll simply enjoy it for now and let ”the cards fall where they may” about the fate of ”SEDANS”?!!?
I believe they will be around for awhile! I enjoy passing SUVs, CROSSOVERS and TRUCKS with ease in my ”COAL-FIRED SEDAN”!!!

  13. If the Sport Trim is only going to be cosmetic, plus maybe 19″ wheels, just offer a Sport package
    as an option.

Packages like these need to be designed and tested, so if there isn’t much demand, then they are
$ losers. I don’t know why a Sport would be popular, if it doesn’t come with a higher perf engine.

    CT6 doesn’t need Sport, unless it’s V-Sport or V.

(Actually skipping a CT 7) Cadillac has a new CT8 in its wings for either 2020 or 2021!!! ERR, SO MUCH FOR GM AND CADILLAC ”SCRAPPING” THEIR SEDANS, HUH??? I’M IN MY 6TH CADDY AS WELL!!! I thought hard about trying the new XT6, I just got into another CT6 sedan in Crystal White Metallic Tricoat with Kona Brown Leather and Black Interior with African Burl Wood and suede trim!!! I will be watching the CT8!!!
