1981 Camaro Z/28 With 53 Miles Is An Untouched Time Capsule

It’s hard to imagine buying and making the payments on a car that you never intend on driving, but this is extremely common for rare, limited-edition versions of certain vehicles. If a car is suspected of being worth a pretty penny in the future, you can bet there will be someone out there who will buy one, stick it under a cover and forget about it for 40 years, only to flip it for a profit.
It appears that that’s what someone did with this 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 currently for sale on eBay. This is a true 1980s time capsule, showing just 53 original miles on the odometer and appearing in like-new condition. The body is perfect and the leather seats aren’t even showing a single wrinkle. Furthermore, the engine bay looks clean enough to eat off of and it has been kept in a climate-controlled garage for its entire life.
According to the listing, “this car is the lowest mileage all original 1981 Camaro Z/28 in existence.” Described as being in “mint” condition, it comes with all the original documentation (window sticker, sales invoice, warranty info etc.) and the original window sticker. It was ordered new with power doors and locks, tinted windows, t-tops, cruise control, an automatic transmission, a tilt steering wheel, and the optional silver vinyl bucket seats.
There’s not much time left on the auction as of this writing, but we couldn’t resist showing you this unique, low-mileage 1980s Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. Bidding currently sits at $41,600.

Dang just another reason why I wish I was rich
You wouldn’t grow rich this way. The article did not mention the original 1980 price, but let’s guess it was $7500. And let’s round off to 40 years. So that was a payment of $7500, 38 years of nothing, and a pay off of $41,600. I get a IRR of 4%. Meh.
First it says leather then vinyl?
Yes, it’s the all original genuine imitation Corinthian leather seats. haha.
Nice car. Too bad not a manual. Did Camaro even have leather back then? Don’t think so?
Minimal effort here, damn it! Might have made it passed the “moderation” stage 2x. I had a 74 Camaro LT and it definitely had leather.
One of thousands, low mileage or not, not a car worth anything near bid. It’s a 20k car, tops.
Whoa? Power windows? My 81 has cranks and the door trim is completely different
I have the 79 with 7,900 miles. Just took off the original tires. If anyone wants to give me 40k I’ll take it! Lol
20k? Obvious u r wrong sitting at 41k
No bids on Ebay, buy it price is $25,000. here is link > https://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-Chevrolet-Camaro-factory-Z28-/383017498625?oid=202719224672
One of gazillions- 25k – 30k it’s not worth 42k…
Especially in the USA where that body style is EVERYWHERE….now in EUROPE it would be RARE.
It is rather UNDER POWERED, the 81 small block was JUNK….the car itself would only be fun if the entire drive train was junked and a proper one installed along with a pro suspension.
The plastic interior is a matter of how much BAD TASTE you can handle…. YE GAD is that awful.
The car choice of wife beaters and philly cheese eating goombas … wearing MULLETS – the worst example of the American Era.
BFD car looks great and someone kept it like new; show some respect. New in Canada that car was twice what you think it was worth retail.
The reserve on eBay was over $58,000. Also there is an odometer issue with this car.
You people or not car people if you was you would know cars which you dont and yes they had bunch of dumbasses yes thats what i said dumass
Yes they had leather back thenand no im not rich just know what the f##k I’m talking about
Gazillions with 53 miles? Ha
Ebay ad for this says car has 87,000 miles, not 53 miles. It’s a nice looking car in great condition, but with a dog 305. This a 16 second car at best, a Toyota 1992 Corolla could outrun and out handle it.
This is not even the same car that is in the article. This site has some of the dumbest people.
I seriously doubt that considering the current 2019 model with it’s powerhouse 132 HP 1.8 is a 9 plus second 0-60 car. And the 305 used in the Z28 was a higher output 165 HP engine not the weaker 145 version that Pontiac used on the 81 TA.
Love it! Not the fastest but it will turn heads. If you were a kid in that era, you can better understand why power was down. At least you can see out of this generation camaro, even if its the back of most other cars.
MB Not the same car. Need to take a closer look .
I had a ’79 Camaro with vinyl seats and a V6 with a 3 speed on the floor. Obviously wasn’t a Z28, but still pretty fast (fun for a 17 year old at the time)
65 bids went to $58,800, no sale, did not meet reserve. Sure looks like the real thing and I’m surprised that the bids went that high. Shill bidding? If that was a 70 RS-Z28 I’d believe it.
