Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana Vans Recalled For Wrong Window Glass

General Motors has issued a new recall for 2016-2019 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans for incorrect window glass.

The defect: The Express and Savana models affected may feature tempered glass instead of laminated glass in one or both of the rear-quarter windows.

The hazard: Tempered glass increases the risk of injury in the event of a side-impact or rollover crash. Additionally, the vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for “ejection mitigation.”

The fix: GM will notify owners of the affected vans and instruct them to take their Express or Savana to a dealership. There, a technician will replace the tempered glass windows with laminated glass as needed free of charge.

Owners should: Await notification from GM. The automaker has not provided a schedule for when it will send a notification to owners yet.

  1. I guess this is only impacting the passenger configured Vans?

  2. How does this happen? Someone order the wrong glass? Were these the vans that Navistar built for GM?

  3. No, Navistar builds the cutaways only; these come from Wentzville.

  5. Haven’t they been building this same design for about 20 years now? They only just noticed they had the wrong glass?

  6. Most likely another one of GM’s cost cutting and hoped no one noticed.
