2020 Silverado 1500 Adds Vertical Towing Mirror Option

Towing a large trailer safely can be an involved process that requires attention to detail and some specialized equipment. One of those specialized features are the sideview mirrors, which are integral to trailering success and safety. Luckily, the 2020 Silverado 1500 will offer new vertical trailering mirrors specifically designed for the task.
In fact, Chevy initially announced these towing mirrors for the 2019 Silverado, but they didn’t make it to production until the 2020 model year – which is expected to arrive at dealers during the third quarter of 2019.
The all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 on the T1 platform offers a set of regular, horizontally-oriented mirrors that vary in functionality depending on trim level, with the actual mirror housing and glass remaining the same. Lower in the line, these mirrors offer manual adjustability. In the mid-range, these same mirrors add power adjustability and a heating function. And on range-topping models, these same mirrors come with features like driver-side auto-dimming, puddle lamps, side perimeter lighting, and a memory function. These mirrors, along with all of these features, carry over into the 2020 Silverado 1500. Meanwhile, a completely different, towing-specific mirror joins the lineup.
The new, optional towing mirrors are vertically-oriented, providing greater depth of range for drivers to monitor a trailer. A heating function is offered for the upper glass portion, while the lower half features convex mirrors that enable the driver to better see blind spots. Additional features on these new Silverado towing mirrors are integrated turn signals, clearance lamps, and auxiliary lighting.
Customers will find the vertical towing mirror optional on 2020 Silverado models on the WT (Work Truck), LT, RST, and LT Trail Boss trim levels. Even more utility can be had with the mirrors on the range-topping LTZ and High Country trim levels, which add features like auto-dimming for the upper glass, puddle lamps, perimeter lighting, and a power folding function.
Unfortunately, we have yet to see these new towing mirrors, since nobody has photos. In fact, neither does GM. We asked. But it’s worth noting that the optional trailering mirrors for the 2020 Silverado 1500 are not the same units installed as standard on the 2020 Silverado HD.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Yet none to be found for these vertical mirrors?
Sounds like you didn’t even read the entire article. If you did you would see the following sentence:
“Unfortunately, we have yet to see these new towing mirrors, since nobody has photos. In fact, neither does GM. We asked. But it’s worth noting that the optional trailering mirrors for the 2020 Silverado 1500 are not the same units installed as standard on the 2020 Silverado HD.”
So they are just describing the mirrors and there aren’t any photos.
Looks like the Silverado custom is the red headed step child. It doesn’t get the 6.2 L and towing mirrors.
Assuming that they are the same as the HD mirrors

You guys ain’t into reading or what? Clearly stated in the words…

Ok! I hope this mean the 2020 Trail Boss is getting tow gears too (3.42 or maybe the awesome 3.73). Fellas I’m telling you if GM puts the 6.2 in a Trailboss with 3.73 gears, they will have the best all around truck out there…and I’m trading my old truck (2007 5.3 with 3.73 rear axel gear ratio).
They will be the same mirrors. They have always been the same as the HD’s. its the same mounting system. Also if you go onto the accessories page you’ll find tow mirror covers and its the same ones on the HD.
Now if only they would make the 2 speed transfer case standard on ALL 4wd models, not just Z71. Why on earth would I waste my time looking for a Z71 equipped Silverado (or X31 equipped Sierra) and then pay extra for said package when I can easily just go over to my local Ford, Ram, Nissan or Toyota dealership and get a 2 speed transfer case as standard equipment with 4wd, just like it should be on a truck.
Maybe because the vast majority of people will never use or need 4-lo and its a waste of money and weight to put it on every single 4wd truck. It makes perfect sense to me that you would get the 2-speed case on the off-road package. That way if you don’t want it, don’t need, don’t intend to use it, you can save money and not get it.
Well you don’t need it until you need it, just like almost every feature on pickup trucks. By your logic every half ton truck buyer should just go and buy a Honda Ridgeline.
When trucks continue to get more expensive I absolutely refuse to accept the extensive cost cutting that GM has done with the new generation trucks. Low range is a feature that is not only expected by half ton customers, but is a standard feature on every one of it’s competitors, including myself.

I feel sorry for guys trying to tow effectively with the 2019. You can’t see the back of a 16′ trailer. I drove one at the Legends event in Wyoming a year ago. Not safe to tow anything more than a 12′ trailer in my opinion.
I’m curious, is it worse than other trucks with standard mirrors? The standard mirrors on the 2019s seem to be a pretty good size. They’re definitely bigger than the ones on the older trucks.
Wow I’m not sure what all the downvotes on my previous comment are for. I’m genuinely curious how it compares to previous generations because I would have thought the mirrors on the new trucks would work well for towing.
I didn’t vote you down but I can tell you the difference between the two trucks.
The mirrors on the ’19 are just a little bigger. That being said, if you are towing something under 16′ you will probably be okay. Any longer and you cannot see the back of the trailer. I suppose if you had the super deluxe camera package with the remote camera on the back of your trailer you would be fine.
Are we going to have to update the infamous meme?

Better towing mirrors and nicer looking mirrors would be welcome. Was just looking at the new Blazer and was surprised to find the

And yet for 70K still no mention of it coming to the High Country No wonder GM is falling behind…. Hello Mary time to wake up!!!!!!
