Local Dealer Grants Final Wish With Chevrolet Camaro Visit: Video

So often, the cars we love provide much more than just transportation. They also provide a youthful spark, a link to our past, and above all, joy. For Janesville, Wisconsin resident Kevin Cappis, the Chevrolet Camaro offers all of the above. So when Cappis entered hospice care several years after suffering a stroke, his daughter-in-law, Cassy Cutright, sought to bring him the joy he felt from the Chevrolet Camaro in years past.

“He was just mentioning how when he was younger, he had a Camaro,” Cutright told NBC affiliate WMTV. “I was just kind of probing him for questions. I’m like, ‘Oh what kind of Camaro would you get?’ And he’s like, ‘A black one.’ I said new or old? And he said, ‘I want a brand new one.’ And I kind of just raised my eyebrows and chuckled, ‘Okay.'”

One day, Cassy was out driving with her aunt Leslie. After driving by a few other dealerships, she decided to pull into a local Chevrolet dealer, Gary Lang Auto Group, where she met Jeff Vicari. She told him her father-in-law’s story, and Vicari decided to help out.

“Without hesitation, Jeff went and grabbed some keys,” Cutright said. “He pulled around a blue convertible, and he said ‘Let’s go ladies.'”

The next thing she knew, Cutright was on her way to her father-in-law with a brand-new 2019 Chevrolet Camaro convertible in tow. They pulled right up to the window next to Cappis’ bed and revved the drop-top’s V8 a few times to get his attention.

“I saw him get up and lean over, and I saw the smile,” Vicari said. “And that was probably worth everything that was there.”

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible is equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L LT1 V8, which produces 455 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 455 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. It also generates an absolutely superb exhaust note, which surely stirred some memories in Cappis.

Cutright is grateful for the random act of kindness. “It was almost like he was sent to us,” Cutright said. “Jeff did it without hesitation. He knew he wasn’t making a sale. He still did it. He went out of his way and made it happen.”

Although Cappis was unable to take a ride in the gleaming new muscle car, the sight of it was sure to make him happy. When Cappis asked his daughter-in-law if the new Camaro was for him, Cutright said, “We’re going to work on getting you a black convertible.”

  2. That is what being a “Car Guy” is all about, reaching out to a fellow enthusiast without hesitation. The Gary Lang Auto Group has a generous and caring employee in Jeff Vicari and will reap the benefits of such a kind act. Thanks for a great story and my prayers go out to Kevin Kappis.
