The K5 Chevrolet Blazer is one of the most beloved old Chevrolets and seems to be growing in popularity as the vintage truck and SUV market grows.
General Motors probably won’t ever put the K5 Chevrolet Blazer back into production as a recreation product anytime soon (although that would be very cool..), but the remote controlled vehicle experts over at Traxxas have developed the next best thing: a remote controlled scale version.
Traxxas’ new Blazer RC car is based on the company’s TRX-4 off-road chassis and is styled after the 1979 model year K5 Blazer. It also features replica Rally wheels from the K5 Blazer, accurate scale parts like the grille, chrome bumpers, side mirrors, door handles and wipers and working headlights and taillights.
The TRX-4 chassis, which can also be equipped with a Ford Bronco body, features a working two-speed transmission, remote locking differentials and an 8.4V lithium polymer battery. The electric motor also has selectable drive modes including Sport, Race, Training, Trail and Crawl, along with a brake hold for hills.
We only featured the orange and white K5 Blazer Traxxas body in this article, however it’s also available in red and black if you think that suits your style better.
As cool as this radio controlled K5 Chevrolet Blazer is, it’s not cheap. Prices start at $500 for the complete kit, which is quite a bit of money to spend on a toy like this – although it’s of course much less than a mint K5 Blazer of the same vintage. You can see it in action in the video embedded above and visit Traxxas’ website for additional information.

For those of you who don’t understand….this is what a real Blazer looked like. A major reason reason why many purists are so upset about the misuse of the once proud Blazer name.
“K5 Blazer” is different from S-10 Blazer, TrailBlazer and this new Blazer… get over it.
the K5 Blazer and the S-10 blazer and the trainblazer are way better vehicles than this pile of filth the current blazer is.
K5 Blazers are getting crazy money at auctions, as are Chevy pickups from 50s-60s. Will be interesting if nostalgia will bring big sales for new Ford Bronco? I had a ’79 Blazer 2wd. Shoulda kept it.
I’m not really a Ford guy but I’m gonna consider a 2020 Bronco
@John P.
You are EXACTLY right!! And it’s a shame GM leadership does not understand this. Hard to believe a toy company understands the “Blazer” better than the company that created the TRUCK!!!
“Blazer” deserved a better vehicle and at the same time this new crossover deserved a more fitting name.
if this new ford bronco becomes a huge success, there will be a 2nd generation k5 blazer or the s10 blazer.
“if this new ford bronco becomes a huge success, there will be a 2nd generation k5 blazer or the s10 blazer”
You don’t know that. That’s just wishful thinking.
how can you compare the old k5 to the new Blaser, there’s nothing to compare.
how about the red one…https://www.facebook.com/737281099750191/photos/pcb.1803629406448683/1803628723115418/?type=3&theater
