Chevrolet Discount Takes $12,000 Off 2018 Silverado In May 2019

Chevrolet Silverado sales decreased 16 percent to over 114,000 units in the first quarter of 2019, as Chevrolet continued the launch of the all-new 2019 Silverado 1500. The circumstance incentivizes GM to move any remaining units of the last-gen 2018 Silverado models on the K2 platform. So after gradually increasing incentives on these models over the past few months, Chevrolet is now discounting 2018 Silverado 1500 pickup trucks by over $12,000 in May 2019.
The Incentives
Nationwide Chevrolet discounts on 2018 Silverado on the outgoing K2 platform pickup trucks are as follows in May 2019:
- 2018 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Crew Cab LT All Star Z71: $6,750 total cash allowance + $4,815 employee discount + $750 option package discount = $12,315 total value
- This incentive is only available for current owners of GM vehicles
- 2018 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab: $1,500 cash allowance when financing with GM Financial $2,500 customer cash + $750 purchase bonus cash = $4,750 total cash allowance
- 2018 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab LT/LT Z71: 0 percent APR (interest-free) financing for 72 months + $1,500 cash allowance when financing with GM Financial
- 2018 Silverado 1500 Regular Cab: 0 percent APR (interest-free) financing for 72 months + $500 cash allowance when financing with GM Financial
- 2018 Silverado 1500 Double Cab: 0 percent APR (interest-free) financing for 72 months + $500 cash allowance when financing with GM Financial
- 2018 Silverado 1500 Double Cab: $2,500 customer cash + $750 purchase bonus cash = $3,250 total cash allowance
For reference, here are the applicable 2018 Silverado 1500 trim levels and their corresponding starting MSRPs:
- Work Truck – $29,795
- LS – $31,895
- Silverado Custom – $35,695
- LT – $36,095
- LTZ – $43,795
- High Country – $53,495
Chevrolet’s example of the discount as it applies to a 2018 Silverado LT All Star Z71 Crew Cab with an MSRP of $50,940 lowers the price to $38,605.
So, if you’re not that concerned with having the latest Silverado, which is all-new for the 2019 model year, then head on over to your Chevy dealer rather quickly, as inventory of the last-gen K2 Silverado is dwindling.
Silverado Versions
Those not up on the latest about the Silverado should know that the 2019 Silverado is offered in two versions:
- The all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 on the T1 platform, and
- The last-gen Silverado 1500 on the K2 platform. The model is available only in the Double Cab body style with the 5.3L V8 engine for the 2019 model year and in all body and engine combinations for the 2018 model year.

About Chevrolet Silverado
The Chevrolet Silverado is a lineup of full-size pickup trucks sold primarily in North America, but also in the Middle East and in certain markets in South America. Slotting above the mid-size Chevrolet Colorado (known as the S10 in some markets), the Silverado is Chevrolet's largest pickup truck and currently consists of the 1500 light duty model, two Heavy Duty models - the 2500HD and 3500HD, as well as Conventional Class 4, Class 5 and Class 6 Medium Duty models - the Silverado 4500HD and Silverado 5500HD and Silverado 6500HD.
The 2018 Chevy Silverado represents the fifth model year of the third-generation Silverado. It is based on the GM K2 platform shared with other full-size pickup trucks and SUVs from GM. Though the line sold relatively well, it became less competitive in the marketplace with time when compared to its primary Ford F-Series rival, due to lacking cutting-edge features such as turbocharged engines, a rugged off-road variant such as the Ford F-150 Raptor, a diesel engine option in the light duty (1500) model, and also various modern features and equipment.

Luckily, an all-new Silverado arrived for the 2019 model year that addresses many of the issues of its predecessor model. Customers began taking delivery of the all-new truck in the second half of August 2018.
Chevrolet says that the all-new 2019 Silverado is the result of over 7,000 customer interviews - the most intensive research in its history. The new model uses higher grade alloy steel in the bed floor as well as various mixed materials that result in a reduction in weight and improved performance, with weight falling about 450 pounds. The truck also offers an expanded amount of models for a total of eight, including the new 2019 Silverado Trailboss.
Riding on GM's new T1 platform shared with other future GM full-size trucks and SUVs, the 2019 Silverado offers more technology, convenience features, and engine/transmission combinations. While details of five powertrain combos have already been revealed, GM has not yet shared details of the new inline-six 3.0L Duramax Diesel engine, only stating that it will be "best-performing" and that it will be mated to GM's new 10-speed transmission.
Notably, the outgoing, Chevy will continue manufacturing and selling the outgoing, K2 generation Silverado alongside the all-new model for a limited amount of time in limited configurations.
Having overhauled the Silverado 1500, Chevy will next overhaul the Silverado Heavy Duty. The brand released a teaser image of the upcoming all-new 2020 Silverado HD in April 2018 and announced the vehicle in November 2018. The truck will launch in the 2019 calendar year as a 2020 model.
The 2020 Silverado HD will be comprised of the Silverado 2500HD and Silverado 3500HD that ride on a more robust and capable version of the new T1 platform when compared to the 2019 Silverado 1500, while sharing many high-tech features and design elements with its light duty brother.
Completing the overhauled Silverado family is the 2019 Silverado Medium Duty series, comprised of the Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD.
The Chevrolet Silverado is built at the following GM plants:
- GM Flint Assembly in Flint, Michigan, USA
- GM Fort Wayne Assembly in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
- GM Oshawa Assembly  in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
- GM Silao in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico
- Navistar Springfield Assembly in Springfield, Ohio, USA (Silverado Medium Duty only)

Is a nearly year old truck, discounted $18k something that is still “hot”? More like the dealers are screaming about the massive inventories of 2018 trucks they’re sitting on (forced on them by the GM field reps of course) and this is GM’s way of quelling the racket.
They are actually nearly two years old.
This isn’t a unique situation. Ford dealers still have a massive overstock of 2018 and 2019 F-150’s. Ram dealer have also had a huge backlog of 2018’s. They both being sent new old stock before they’ve even cleared out old old stock.
I just picked up a 18 cause the deal was too good to pass up. Got a total of 16k off a 49k msrp truck. Took the gmf 1500 credit also. Why would you even look at the 19 with these deals.
This right here is what I mean. Walk out and go to another place and price match, drop it, haggle, and get that thing rock bottom.
I had to do a hard pass on the K2 trucks after test driving a NG 2019 Silverado. The T1xx trucks are a HUUUUUUUGE improvement over the ancient sloppy handling K2 trucks. The T1’s have better handling, tighter turn radius, better payload ratings, better tow ratings, better technology, better cab design with a flat cab floor, a DFM system that’s 10 times smoother than AFM, an improved 8L90 that’s miles better than the 6L80, etc. The next gen 2019’s are a no brainer for anybody that’s actually spent some time in one. The K2 IFS is the biggest thing that held those trucks back.
I just test drove an RST this past week. As a guy that would describe myself as a lifelong Ford guy, I think the 2019 Silverado is one of the best trucks they’ve made in decades. The cab is finally design right, the steering wheel is center, the handling and turn radius are better than the current F150, and the 8-speed really makes the 5.3 shine. Speaking of the 5.3, the efficiency and power are surprisingly good. During the drive, the instantaneous fuel economy hovered in the 23-25 mpg range the entire time we were on the interstate. Payload and tow ratings were very good on the truck we drove.
Which dealership did you buy your truck from? I have a bunch of friends looking to get new Silverado 1500’s. THX
With a just about guaranteed $12000 off, let the haggle commence. No one is paying full sticker price and a huge drop like this means they have to dump inventory. Dealers will soon take break even price if they can get them cleared out.
The fact that an ‘18 is already a year old doesn’t matter one whit if you keep ‘em 8-10 years and roll up some serious miles. That 1 year difference is rounding error.
Basically GM is saying if you’re a loyal customer that buys your pickup early, we’re going to screw you. I got an ’18 Silverado, and wish I would have gotten a Tacoma. This thing is going to be basically worthless when it’s paid off. This will be the last American vehicle I buy. Their dealerships suck to deal with and the resale value is nonexistent.
The 3rd gen Tacoma is an unreliable dumpster of a truck. You should consider yourself fortunate that you didn’t have to deal with the massive lack of quality plaguing the Tacoma. Howling rear differentials, vibrating front differentials, terrible 6-speed transmission, misalignment bodies, garbage manual trans clutches, electrical gremlins, bad paint, cheap interiors materials, finicky gutless engines, etc.
A Toyota is hands down better than anything an American auto maker puts out. Not up for debate.
That is correct, the quality and reliability isn’t comparable. Fanbois here will point to a rust problem Toyota trucks had decades ago; a problem the company fixed at no cost to the customers. Meanwhile, GM girly men dutifully return their pigs to the shop for every recall, transmission replacement, electronic gremlin. I will admit, they probably do get 1 to 2 better MPG while doing so. If the truck is driveable, that is.
Randy J.
Be sure to upgrade to the Off-road Tacoma TuRD. Because the Tacoma completely sucks to drive on road.
Be very careful when accepting these deals. The dealers and car salesmen will cheat you at every corner of the deal. I bought a 2018 Z71 @Munday Chevrolet they were having the employee discount sale and I thought I was getting a really good on the truck. The end result was them shorting the hell out of my trade in. In addition instead of getting a Texas Eddition I recieved a Texas Eddition with 18 inch trims on the truck. Didnt really notice it until it was too late. This is the type of treatment you recieve from dealers and car salesmen so Buyers Be Ware! When you think your getting a deal think again….
That’s what they do for a living though, so you have to be as terrible to them as they are to you. Walk out, argue, walk out, haggle, give them a bottom price and make them meet it WITH an extended warranty. The sticker says what they want to get, not what you have to buy it for.
I’ve seen dealers advertise 10K off new trucks, and 30% off year old trucks. It seem to happen every year, cuz they want to move them out. These are the numbers that are my target when I go truck shopping.
I actually prefer the 18 to the new model.
I test drove the Colorado, the 18 Silverado and the new T1 Silverado. The T1 definitely had a better ride, but the visibility was a lot worse (the mirrors were miles better than the last gen), the brake pedal definitely had a different feel to it. More touchy and electronic feeling (I looked into it, turns out that the new Silverado has some kind of “brake by wire”. It’s definitely noticeable and not in a good way) and the steering wheel had this weird piece of sharp plastic across the bottom that was just plain annoying.
Love my new 18 though, Could not be happier! The only things I don’t like are; the lack of a sunroof, and the 26 gallon fuel tank (I wish GM would’ve let me get the 31 on non reg cab, LB models).
