Alex Bowman Finishes Second For The Third Straight Race At Kansas

Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski triumphed over Hendrick Motorsport’s Alex Bowman in a two-lap overtime battle to win Saturday night’s Digital Ally 400 at Kansas Speedway – the third straight race the No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has finished in the runner-up position.

Keselowski stopped for fresh tires on lap 241, allowing him to pass Bowman and pull out a small gap over him in overtime, which brought the race four laps beyond its scheduled 267. Post-race, Bowman said he allowed Keselowski to get close in lapped traffic and reflected on his frustrating trio of second place finishes.

“Just made some bad calls there through lapped traffic and got tied off, had to lift, and then the 2 (Keselowski) was able to drive around us,” Bowman said post-race. “Wish we were standing here with three wins in a row, and things could have gone differently, and that could be the case, but we’ll keep digging next week and try to go get in the All-Star (Race), go win the All-Star and then go try to win the (Coca-Cola) 600.”

While Bowman expressed his dejection, Keselowski enjoyed the fruits of his third win of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season, which was his second at Kansas and the 30th of his career. Keselowski is now tied with Kyle Busch for having the most wins this season as well.

“What a great day,” Keselowski said. “On the (last) restart, I just got a great launch and Alex Bowman — he’s going to win a race. He did a great job today. We had a little bit of fresher tires than he did (to facilitate the lead change before overtime), and we were able to make the move on the outside there and caught everything perfect.

“I’m just so thankful.”

Erik Jones came home third, while Chase Elliott and Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five, respectively. Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson, and Tyler Reddick helped put numerous Camaros in the top ten, finishing sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth, while Chris Buescher completed the top 10.

The next race of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season is the non-points paying All-Star Race, which will be held on Saturday, May 18th.

  1. Look how much they’ve improved! They aren’t turning out wins, but they have had MULTIPLE top-10 finishers each race since ‘Dega, where they had that talk about working together.
