Some of us have been there. Down on our luck, struggling to make it to the next day. Life throws plenty of curveballs. For many, the automobile is a necessity, the lifeblood of employment and a paycheck. Without one, making ends meet in an area that lacks public transportation can be next to impossible. That’s the situation Krystal Preston of Fernley, Nevada found herself in: she was starting life over after an unfortunate and unexpected situation with three kids, three dogs, and no transportation. But someone close to her came to the rescue – her 13-year-old son, William.
He watched YouTube videos of people buying their mom a car and then surprising her with it, and he wanted to do that for his mom. Scrolling through Facebook, William – who does yard and house work for people in his community to make some money – found a woman selling a white 1999 Chevy Metro… and it was cheap. He reached out to the woman selling the car and asked if he could trade for it or earn it. She was hesitant at first, but eventually came around and agreed.
William said in an interview with KOLO News 8 that his mom didn’t believe him at first. The two then walked outside their home to find the woman selling the Chevy right there.
“I lost it, I bawled, I was just like, there’s no way,” said Crystal. “And then she gave me the keys and the paperwork.”
And though the car needs a little work, but it’s perfect to Krystal.
Krystal posted the story to Facebook, and by next morning, a radio crew was at her front door. Since the story was first reported, several people have reached out to help the family. A GoFundMe page has been set up for donations, which is available here. People have donated $11,220 over just 16 days for the family.
The Preston’s family story is a gentle reminder that some hard work and a bit on ingenuity can go quite a long way. A Chevy Metro may not be the quickest, most attractive, or roomiest car for a family of four, plus their three dogs… but it’s a good start to help get the family back on its feet.

Hope this young man continues doing good in life. And someone helps him selflessly as he did for his family.
Great story. Need more of these stories in our current climate of constant negative stories. Young dude will be successful.
Good son, god bless you dude
Love to read stories like this. Kind of makes a person question why we don’t see more stories like this in general news cycles.
I can only hope that my two children are as blessed as this young man.
I’m glad GM Authority is reporting these reports. “If the formerly named General Motors” company is transfering it’s company assembly plants outside of the USA; General M. would no longer be American made!! 🙁 Their reports would also describe that the automobiles would stay the same prices but the company would get the profits “(not it’s workers)”!!
No need to go beyond giving this kid props for the love he has for his mother, leave it at that.

Happy Easter everyone! ?
Terrific. It’s nice to know there are people like this.
Wow there is a Mahk video in this in the near future I think! LOL
And with the culling of all of their low cost smaller cars future generations will be left with pricey CUV’s and trucks with loads of little pain in the neck issues and many error messages and warning lights flashing. Hooray for our profits and to hell with our lower income less fortunate customers.
Its heartwarming to see this little guy make such a great gesture for his mom. We need to take care of each other because the car companies and governments sure won’t.
Joe, to quote a really smart commentor, “No need to go beyond giving this kid props for the love he has for his mother, leave it at that.” Just say, “Cool kid. We need more of them; or at least more mention of the millions of kids out there that would and are doing the same types of good things for their parents.”
Joe, you’re spelling is that of a kids; YOU’RE GIVING GM AUTHORITY A BAD WRAP! Give the little dude more credit than that. 🙁
Your, not you’re(you are).
This column is 4 the great act of the little dude & not judging grammar.
Grammar and proper language always important. Hell I went through a period of about 5+ years as a kid where my mom(an English minor in college) forbade me to use contractions in her presence. So it was It Is vs It’s or What Is vs What’s. Builds lots of mental discipline.
the kid did not use old school work to buy the car he sold his Xbox 360 got the money and then bought the car.
