Some 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX Owners To Be Reimbursed Over Headlights

Owners of 2010-2015 model year Cadillac SRX crossovers will be reimbursed for expenses they may have incurred making repairs to the vehicle’s headlights after a class action lawsuit was filed in 2017.
This class action proceeding is actually separate from the class action suit over the SRX’s headlights that was recently filed in Detroit. Unknown legal hurdles caused this class action suit to be thrown out in all states except for Florida and California.
Like the lawsuit filed in Detroit, this proceeding alleges the headlights on the 2010-2015 model year Cadillac SRX may have faulty weather seals that erode prematurely, allowing moisture to enter the headlight casing. This may cause the bulb to either dim or burn out entirely.
Owners have complained of dim headlights when driving to the point where some can not use their vehicles at night. The problem also returns once the headlights are repaired at dealers, causing owners to incur additional repair expenses. Furthermore, some Cadillac dealers have refused to fix the problem even when the vehicle in question is still under warranty.
According to Car Complaints, General Motors has now agreed to reimburse owners for any replaced headlamp capsules or lightbulbs, with a cap of up to $1,600 per replacement. The repairs must have been associated with problems caused by moisture and owners must initially pay out of pocket for the repairs.
However both the California/Florida and Detroit lawsuits claim that having the headlights repaired does little to fix the problem, as moisture will simply re-enter the headlight and the dimming issue will return. Car Complaints says SRX owners are routinely faced with bills of around $1,500 to fix the issue, while some have even faced repairs totalling more than $5,000.
The Detroit suit also says GM actively tried to cover up the Cadillac SRX headlight defect and continues to do so today.

This reimbursement is for halogen headlights only not HID which is completely ridiculous! GM was bailed out and this is how they treat their customers?! The 2012 Cadillac SRX is the first and last money I will ever spend on a GM vehicle, American made with defective headlights and they don’t care! I bought a brand new 1998 Ford Expedition had 234,000 miles on it when I sold it , original everything never had any problems. The most unprofessional people I have ever encountered in the 12 phone calls trying to get THEIR problem fixed one supervisor even yelled at me ! Bottom line money is more important than their customers, 300,000 vehicles with defective headlights and they turn their back on them!
So! this is my first caddy I ever purchased and will probably be last only reason is poor headlighting, I didn’t realize I should of googled problems with this vehicle as why should I? I just received letter for reimbursement on replacing headlights that cadillac already new there was an issue with and only reason they are offering reimbursement to customer instead of the dealer is there hoping most folks don’t or can’t come up with the funds for repairs and diagnostics for replacing headlights in hopes it doesn’t cost more then 1600 bucks leaving the balance to owner. I guarantee they didn’t pay for the repairs. Very unhappy on how this is being handle as one service manager/tech deals with warranty on a daily basis just not in the caddy line. You Do realize any one can go to local parts store and get lenses and bulbs and replace them yourself for less then half that cadillac is willing to reimburse.
That only applies to halogen headlights not HID so again GM tap dances around the problem!
I did have a mechanic change the bulbs a ballast and another part and try to seal the outside where it was defective but the $100 bulb lasted a week until the next rainy day. Then the drivers side headlight went out permanently.
Paid $274.99 for BOTH headlights on Amazon. Not factory made but they did work well. Installed myself. Took about 7 hours and a pain. A 2010 caddy and the headlights were REALLY fogged up. Had to drive with high beams on.
Would be happy just to get the 274 back. Sold the car.
I also received a letter for reimbursement for my 2014 SRX Premium. The letter mentioned that the reimbursement is for halogen lights and not HID. I believe we have HID since the owners manual says “uplevel headlights” are HID. There have been no problems with mine. The letter did not mention that there were any problems with the 2016 model. Did 2016 all come with HID’s?
how do you tell if my 2010 cadillac srx has halogen or hid headlights?
I looked in my owners manual. It wasn’t clear but I have the premium package on my SRX and the lights are super bright at night. Which I love to drive with these old eyes so I can see. I think the base and luxury packages do not have the HID lights. My guess is the performance and premium package have the HID lights.
I submitted my headlight claim months ago and have not had received anything back yet. Believe me, it was more than $1,600 as well. In fact, at the same time, I had to have my Q screen replaced for another $1,800. Despite a class action suit and several complaints, GM is refusing to provide reimbursement for the screen.
We are having the same issue – we replaced our headlights as we could not use our 2015 SRX at night – it was very dangerous. We took it and paid out of pocket for them to be replaced, knowing that it might not fix the problem. We were informed about the reimbursement settlement, but have not received any information and are unaware of when we can expect the $1600.00 they are offering. Like you said, we paid more than that, but it sure would help with our current finances. And yes, after we were out of pocket for that essential fix – we then had to replace our Que screen… $2200 later. Zero has been offered for that and quite frankly, this vehicle is perfect for my husband and I (we are retired) but with constant out-of-pocket expenses like this on a fixed income, it’s sad, but we are losing faith in Cadillac! We have been long-time brand enthusiasts and faithful brand ambassadors but this is a bit painful not knowing or hearing from GMC/Cadillac on what to expect and when we will see any $$.
How long does it take to get reimbursed… when can I expect to receive my reimbursement?
I submitted a claim, with proof (receipt) from our Austin Cadillac Dealer who replaced our headlights as we could not use our 2015 SRX to drive at night.
Now, we wait – when can we expect our reimbursement check to arrive – I have been waiting (date submitted) since March 30, 2020.
I 100% agree with Jo Ann. Send out up dates on when reimbursements will be sent out. Mine is a 2010. I deal with this issue a very long time. I questioned this problem as early as 2013. I call Cadillac of America. They asked how many miles on the vehicle. When I told them they told me sorry the vehicle is out of warranty. I asked them to explain how mileage had anything to do with the function of head lights. Cadillac refused to do anything. It was a great expense of $1500 for each light. Cadillac needs to fix this $1500 a light fixture, that is ridicules.
After years of asking what could be done about our dim Cadillac SUV headlights, we were told by the dealer that we would be reimbursed by GM if we paid to fix them. The lights were do dim I had to drive with my brights on at night to avoid and accident.
So I paid the $1,500 to replace the headlights GM based on a good faith belief that we would be reimbursed. We completed the requisite paperwork and sent it in several months ago and still have not received reimbursement. What can we do to get reimbursed?
i HAVE REPLACED BOTH HEAD LIGHT UNITS ON OUR 2015 SRX AT MY COST. HAVE SUBMITTED PAPER WORK FOR THE REFUND BUT NO REFUND HAS BEEN RECEIVED. TRIED TO CALL TO GET A STATUS OF THE REFUND WITH NO LUCK TO SPEAK WITH A REP. LEFT VOICE MESSAGE TO CALL ME AND NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK. , O
I finally gave up on my local caddy dealership ( betten Chevrolet) as they could not give me a price on labor to install and couldn’t even give me a price on headlights! I had to physically call back and leave a message for the parts department on headlights cost, after a day they called back and they were $480 a piece and on back order till March! That’s right 2021 march. So went to my local parts store and purchased both that’s right both for $400 bucks and install them myself.
Took about 3 hours to change my first time so how does this cost anywhere between $1600 and $2400 bucks??? And I knew they wouldn’t reimburse anybody

I’M on my 22nd and very last Cadillac. We currently own 2014 SRX and a 2014 CTS coupe. The SRX now has the same headlight problem. I cant believe the problems I’ve had not only with my last two Cadillac’s but the totally incompetent, dishonest and subversive dealers here in Florida .
I have wasted days on end trying to have repairs made both in and out of warranty,
The workmanship is shoddy, incomplete and very dishonest. They tried to charge me for work that was not even performed on the car . They have left parts off the cars when being serviced and they don’t complete the service to GM specifications or standards. They are unbelievable and the management is just as bad.
Has anyone gotten reimbursed yet , I herd they are suppose to start sending reimbursements out Saturday …. but when I called I was told they are still in review…
Going on four months now, with no word or letter from GM. Great customer relations, eh?
How do I check on the claim status of my 2011 SRX headlight claim. The letter said I’d be reimbursed by late July have not heard a peep from anyone.
If they don’t reimburse as they stated they will definitely have law suits on their hands!?!!!!!
Don’t want to have to wait for that though. I just wish GM would pay someone back….anyone back.
Purchased my 2013 Cadillac SRX in mid July. Had to have headlight replacement due to not being able to see on low beam. Filed a claim by having place that replacement was completed and was denied. They filed due to I am being quarantined for the next 14 days.
I have t heard anything from GM. I see some people are getting denials, did that info come in the mail. The original letter said reimbursements should be here around July 20th. Still waiting….
I have made I have made 8 documented calls to check on reimbursement for my headlight issue to no avail. This is getting ridiculous. They owe us $1398 .00. Any suggestions on avenues I can follow to find out status of this reimbursement.
I am owed 3600 for my headlight replacement and cannot get a hold of anyone.
I am so disappointed with my dealer, Bergstrom Cadillac and Cadillac regarding the headlight replacement program scam. I am at the point of replacement but they will not another dime from me. I am looking at a Ford or God forgive me a Nissan. Thanks a lot scum bags. Seems liked they learned a few tricks from our current administration.
