GMC Plans To Ratchet Up The Luxury For Future Sierra Models

The 2019 GMC Sierra, complete with its Swiss army knife of a tailgate, is perhaps let down by one area: the interior. While General Motors made a concerted effort to ensure the 2019 Sierra and new Chevrolet Silverado were more than corporate cousins, both trucks feature nearly identical interiors that, to be blunt, already look dated.
The GMC brand has heard this loud and clear, per a Bloomberg report on Monday. Phil Brook, GMC vice president of marketing, said the brand is working on loading more luxurious features into the 2019 Sierra for future models. The report detailed the luxury shortcomings of full-size pickups in general, which regularly sell for an average price of $50,000. For the same amount of coin, buyers can load up a German luxury sedan with opulent materials and greater technology. Experts suggest consumers are starting to see through the cracks as GM, Ford, and Ram benefit from cushy profit margins by skimping out on serious luxury tech but charge premium prices.
Still, Brook believes the GMC brand has a major advantage over established luxury brands. Its vehicles are far more versatile. They can haul, tow, offer more space, and no one will catch a Mercedes-Benz luxury sedan off-road. The G-Class is a different story.
We should expect GMC to pack future Sierras with far more creature comforts, even a larger touchscreen, as the publication asked if buyers will finally be treated to some really premium features. “It sounds like you’ve been to some of our product-planning meetings,” Brook said.
A recent survey found 68 percent of truck owners believe pickups are overpriced and lack value. Another 17 percent of those surveyed said their next vehicle would not be a pickup truck.
Could it spell a changing sentiment for a market that’s been so focused on SUVs and trucks? Time will tell.

Iam just so glad to hear this I just hope they step up an knock it out the park
If you’re really gonna bit&C and moan abt the shortcomings of the luxurious conditions of the interior of your truck, go buy a fu$##ing luxury sedan and hire a true professional to use a truck how it was intended to be used when you need the capability of a truck. Or don’t pay 75k for a truck and then whine like a pu$$y when it doesn’t have a holder for your nail clippings when you’re doing a Mani pedí on the interstate.
Allow me to correct myself boys and girls. My father actually did the ordering and he left the color red for me to choose. I inherited the truck 6 years later. So I kind of feel like it was mine from the beginning so there is the rest of the story as Paul Harvey used to say.
Like the tailgate hitting the ball hitch.
There is enough information coming into the computer from cameras to keep you from pushing both buttons and denting it.
SIMPLE program change.
Will GM do it.
Ha that’s a joke !
GM do something for the CUSTOMER.
Over the air update, should be done.
You are a sad sad individual.
Sorry zviera,
I thought we were talking about trucks.
Happy every day !!
Sorry to say !!
No sadness hear !!
Happy to hear you have something constructive to add.
You must work for GM Customer service also ?
I’m also not sure what to say to those of you out there who think we the high end truck owners are complaining or whining or called worse.
I was younger once and have owned only GM trucks.
Currently own a one ton with dually.
2015 Canyon
2017 Denali HD 2500.
It has taken years to buy a high end truck.
I liked my 2007 Silverado classic BETTER. Now that’s saying something, but true !
I am a truck buyer, not a truck leaser or financer, a buyer.
If you people want an engine with a seat that lasts for 36,000 miles, I have never once said you cant buy it.
You can buy it right, the cheaper GM truck with little to nothing on it or in it.
Never once did I say GM should not make a cheap truck for those people who want a cheap truck.
I do work, with trucks, and pay for them.
GM’s high end truck in 2019 and I assume the HD in 2020 in my opinion are NOT worth it.
The 2017 Denali I own, was NOT worth it.
I, we the owners and buyers of these trucks WILL and ARE telling you this.
You people buy yours.
We will buy ours.
If you want a WT with a 2.7 4 cylinder, bench cloth seat, and a 7 ” screen, fine buy one.
I want a DENALI with a Duramax and a 10 ” screen, no sunroof and no roof lights, the nice tailgate with the power up and not the cheapest looking plastic designed dash cluster. But you know what, GM doesn’t sell that truck for all the money in the world.
GM is selling me your cheap truck with a Denali sticker on the side for $70,000 and I’m not impressed !
60/40 split on Ram “classic” over new Ram $18,000/$14,000 incentives. Hah, cheap bastards.

Enjoy your new, or old, Ram truck, when it’s not sitting in a service bay, I wonder if there are any hidden games (like all the other Easter eggs Chrysler(?) Likes to hide) for the mechanics to play on that center screen while they are waiting on the parts shipments?
fastyle,
I could say the same for the GM trucks.
Wonder how those with the transmission troubles enjoy there GM trucks in the service parking lot.
Or just all the other GM troubles.
I am seeing at least at FCA most are recalls or paid for by warranty so no cost or argument with CUSTOMER service !
Again sorry zviera, hope this doesn’t bring you down.
More fake news Sean, why don’t you tell us why GM continues to sell tons of these pickups, including the high trim levels, if “everyone” is so disappointed with the interiors. Do you even own a pickup truck? Because driving my K2 Silverado, and most people I’ve talked to, feel the interior is nice. In fact when they did focus groups on the new T1, everyone said they liked the K2 interior. Those were people that BOUGHT a K2 truck, sure. And they CONTINUE to buy them. So how does that square with your view of reality here? Why does RAM need insane incentives just to sell even their base model trucks (not ones with a 20″ screen)?
Face it, the people whining and crying about needing a Mercedes interior in a full size pickup truck are a SMALL minority of very VOCAL people who don’t actually do any real work in their trucks.
Clearly truck buyers are divided into two camps. One group of buyers are manly men who were born in a truck and have spent every driven mile at the wheel of a truck that must endure the grimes of working hands. The other group of truck buyers like the configuration of a truck and choose to use one as their vehicle of choice for the convenience of its abilities. One wants a truck to be a work tool while the other is looking for a luxury vehicle with truck capabilities.
Debating which clientele is the real truck market is pointless. GM needs to meet both markets and a mediocre interior, no adaptive cruise control or rain sensing wipers, etc., will keep them from gaining market share with the latter. Pretty simple to me.
Australia is finally getting these trucks……$130,000 USD for a Silverado 3500 HD Dually. And……that’s not even the top trim grade. Americans get theirs cheaper.
