Competitive Sales Comparison

Chevrolet Blazer sales did not realize their complete potential during Q1 2019, as the new crossover is not widely available at the retail level yet, and advertising for the new model has not yet begun.

The similarly all-new Honda Passport, which launched around the same time as the Blazer, didn’t fare much better – selling 4,814 units.

The GM Authority Take

The new Blazer’s launch is roughly halfway complete, and we expect that the second quarter will be the first true representation of the crossover’s sales potential.

It will be interesting to see how Chevrolet Blazer sales fair during this time frame, especially as all-new offerings like the new Honda Passport reach the market in greater quantities. The Blazer recently beat the Passport in a recent shootout, and then lost to the Japanese vehicle in a different comparison. The Blazer will also face internal competition from the coming 2020 Acadia refresh.

About Chevrolet Blazer

The Chevrolet Blazer is a mid-size crossover utility vehicle (CUV). It is currently Chevrolet's second-biggest CUV, slotting between the compact Chevrolet Equinox and full-size Chevrolet Traverse. The current model was introduced for the 2019 model year and represents the fifth generation of the Blazer nameplate, which dates back to 1969. The model rides on the regular-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform shared most directly with the second-gen GMC Acadia and first-gen Cadillac XT5. The long-wheelbase variant of the same platform is shared with the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, and Cadillac XT6.

  1. I just got a 2019 GMC Acadia for a rental for my 2019 Terrain denali first oil change. If the Blazer Drives as well or better than the base 4 cylinder acadia I have it will be sales hit. It also is not going to compete with the Acadia completely different people will buy them. The Blazer is a more flashy look at me styling and Acadia is a more luxury look. FYI those who thing the 2.5 4 cylinder is too small for these vehicles have not driven one. I’m surprised at the power and speed it can get to quickly compared to my 2.0T in my Terrain which is faster still.

  2. Most reviews have been fair , good driving dynamics etc … But its the high price that you here time and again that is its sore spot and safety features only available in the higher trim lines , typical GM . It’ll sell but there is alot of competition in this spot . Eventually you will see rebates to move these cars by the fall of 19 .

  3. Sales should pick up as the vehicle is more available at dealers. Even though I was hit by initial sticker shock being as how the Blazer could cost up to $50k, I have to say when I did my own comparisons and built a Blazer I wanted it didnt go over $45k.

We the buying public and especially fans of GM are being done a disservice by the so called auto journalists who have gone out of their way to blare the mantra of how the Blazer is expensive like a public service announcement.

You can get a 308HP V6 Blazer without destroying your budget! Who’s gonna pay $50k for a Blazer anyway? Come on people, get off these nonsensical auto journalists jock and do your own research.

  5. Capless fuel fill?? How groundbreaking!! My mom’s 2009 Ford Flex had that.

  6. If Chevy would have come out with a beast blazer as most of us were hoping you would have sold 5000 to 6000 in the first quarter. The Blazer has always been Chevy’s 4wd wanderer. It was designed and built to run the back woods. Ever since my 1974 K5 Blazer I always thought Chevy would keep the Blazer as the “grunt force” trail finder it always was, not turn it into a “soccer mom’s suv”!
