Camaro ZL1, Porsche 911 GT3 RS Engage In Epic Track Battle: Video

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE is a hugely capable vehicle – especially when you take into account its sub-$80,000 price tag.

With the right driver behind the wheel, the Camaro ZL1 1LE can keep up with cars costing two or three times as much, making it another in a long line of General Motors vehicles that offers a huge amount of performance per dollar.

YouTube channel Turn in Track Out recently posted a video that shows firsthand just how fast the Camaro ZL1 1LE is when given to the right wheelman. The clip is taken from onboard a Camaro ZL1 1LE as the driver follows a friend in a 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS around California’s Thunderhill Raceway.

As you will see, the Camaro ZL1 1LE is rather evenly matched with the much more expensive 911 GT3 RS. The two look to be fairly close in cornering speed and down the straights, but the Porsche is able to put its power down much better, forcing the Camaro driver to wrestle the big muscle car out of the corners. This seems to be where the Chevy is losing most of its time, which is unsurprising, considering its massive power and torque advantage over the 911.

Speaking of power, the Camaro ZL1 gets its motivation from GM’s 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 engine, which makes 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The example in this video also features a six-speed manual transmission. The 911 GT3 RS, meanwhile, has a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that makes 520 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. The only available transmission in the German sports car is a seven-speed paddle-shifted PDK.

You won’t want to miss these two hugely capable cars going head-to-head with two talented drivers behind the wheel, so be sure to check out the video embedded above.

  1. Great Video! Not bad for a car with much higher CG and much lower cost!

  2. What fun! Takes me back to when I used to do Nasa HPDE at Thunderhill. Love that ZL1 1LE.

  3. I saw a small 6 cylinder constantly pull away from that boat of a car. Nice spin though. Almost as much spin as those rear tires on wet pavement
