After revealing the refreshed 2020 LaCrosse earlier this month in its standard configuration, Buick has now officially presented the range-topping version of the full-size sedan: meet the 2020 Buick LaCrosse Avenir.
The vehicle went on sale on March 28th in China in conjunction with the regular version. As we have previously mentioned, the refreshed 2020 LaCrosse will be available exclusively in China, and will not be sold in the American market.
According to Buick, the 2020 Buick LaCrosse Avenir will offer a more luxurious overall configuration than the present model. The brand claims to have increased refinement and quality with the use of improved materials, special paint and overall greater attention to detail, both when it comes to the exterior and interior.
Like the regular version, the 2020 Buick LaCrosse Avenir introduces an evolution of Buick’s design language. The new headlights have a more elegant and narrow shape, while the front grille adopts an exclusive diamond knit texture, inspired by the original Buick family logo. But it goes beyond that, with weaving techniques combine with a parametric design, enabling each diamond to create an elegant transition between deformation and light.
The side profile of the 2020 Buick LaCrosse remains identical to that of the renewed LaCrosse, but the rear features a new design. A new set of taillights are narrower than before, and are now curved downward. They are joined by a horizontal chrome bar in the center, that intersects with the logo in the middle of the rear end. In addition, the bumper features an integrated, through-fascia dual exhaust treatment that accompanies the vehicle’s elegant aesthetics.
Inside, the 2020 Buick LaCrosse maintains the design of the current, pre-facelift model. The Avenir range-topper uses more genuine leather covers, while the dashboard and door panels continue to be designed with a three-dimensional flow diamond texture.
The roof and pillars are lined with high-quality fabric. The cabin also features velvet pads, a Bose surround sound system, and various other amenities.
It is worth noting that consumers who buy the 2020 Buick LaCrosse Avenir will also receive Buick’s “customer-oriented” personalized service when servicing the vehicle. Created specifically for owners of the Buick Avenir range, it delivers a service concierge, an exclusive reception channel for maintenance, and an exclusive VIP rest area.
In addition, Buick Avenir owners will be able to enjoy value-added services that include GL8 rentals, airport transfers, roadside assistance and a deep cleaning/detailing of their vehicle’s interior.
All versions of the facelifted 2020 Buick LaCrosse will be powered by GM’s turbocharged 2.0L I-4 LSY engine good for 237 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350 Nm (258 pound-feet). The boosted four-banger is mated to the new GM 9-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the refreshed Lacrosse will also offer GM’s new turbocharged 1.3L L3T inline three-cylinder engine that makes 160 horsepower.

sexy car. such a shame for U.S. buyers.
Best looking production Buick in quite a long time. Too bad that America’s current infatuation with dull silver boxes means it’ll never be sold here.
Holy shit this looks great. Shame on us for falling in love with raised station wagons and in effect killing the old good sedan!
You know we are slowly entering Malaise era II when one gets more excited about an MCE on a car we don’t get over a newly introduced Cadillac sedan, the CT5. This Barra induced train wreck is just getting too painful to watch.
This is an example of when Chinese imports are OK. LaCrosse sales do not warrent two lines so in this case no US worker is hurt while a niche vehicle stays available.
As a GM retiree, who owns a Lacrosse, it’s a terrible thing this line won’t be sold in the US. As for building it here, no one mentions the miniscule number of the many Cadillac’s being sold. Pontiac and Olds outsold them, and THEY got axed. Now GM is force-feeding us what we’ll drive, instead of what we really want. A good, American built vehicle. The Lacrosse was GM’s biggest car. Sad day for the American auto.
The update looks great! I see it as a proper modern Buick Park Avenue Ultra…very Buick. I would like to see GM at least offer people the ability to import one as a special order only if they can’t justify building them here. Go to buick.com.cn and you can see more pictures, as well as all the other models we don’t get. You’ll also see that there is a stop/start disable button below the center right a/c vent. And hopefully, this gets posted, because for some reason, it seems that only a third of my comments get posted…what gives?
The design is clean and very nice, could have been a replacement vehicle for the Chevy Cruze at the Lordstown, Ohio Plant for our American workers if GM had “Common Sense” leadership to have that plant Re-Tooled and make that car here in the US.
You can really see where GM’s focus is….. China . Get rid of the Tri-Shield and put a Cadillac crest on it and keep the price the same and GM would have a winner . This is a true American car that should be for US consumtion .
Damn you, Marry Barra, for killing GM, especially the Buick brand. How do you sleep at night? Many of the callous business decisions you made after the US government bailed out GM spit in the faces of taxpayers who have paid/are paying for your folly. Your designers finally have designed a sedan that could be easily be sold in the US, but only if GM would present it with a strong advertising campaign. Lack of advertising killed previous Lacrosse edition sales. Nobody seems to mention that.
I have been loyal to the GM brand (Buick and GMC) for over 65 years, but you can count me out now. When I replace my 2016 GMC Sierra (my 8th GMC pickup), I’ll be looking at Dodge. When I replace my 2012 Lacrosse, I’ll go with Acura or Honda.
Too bad, so sad.
I think you’re proving the point unfortunately. It’s a business. Why would they spend money designing, building (or importing), and advertising an unpopular model so that 3,500 octogenarians will buy them each year when they could use that investment money and dealership space for higher-profit, faster-selling models? There will always be Avalon…
Please keep the Buick, and give the U.S. the China design and build it here.
Well, too bad…..I’ve owned Buick Electras and Park Avenues since the 1980’s, but no longer. Guess I’ll have to look at the new Lincoln Continental, or step DOWN to a Chevy Impala. Many Americans don’t WANT an ugly SUV, they prefer a luxurious, quiet SEDAN. Thanks for SCREWING your loyal Buick buyers, GM. I’m done with Buick until and unless they offer this new LaCrosse to the American market. PERIOD.
The Impala and Conti are also going away, haven’t you heard?
Yeah GM, there are tens of people waiting to buy a Buick sedan and you anger ALL of them rather than lose millions and millions of dollars discounting the ones that sit on the lots unsold. And for what?? So you can make big profits on SUVs that the buyers want now, and keep the factories running and people employed making those SUVs that people want and buy! How horrible of you! You should go back to building up a 2 year supply of unsold unpopular unwanted big sedans and lay off your workers for half the year! The 400 loyal Lacrosse buyers demand it!!!
Better looking Buick then anything we have here. Why?
Hey General Mobility !
How about building it here when you build the CT6 additonal sedans you decided to add this year. My best friend and I
are ready to place orders !
The Chinese market will surely notice the hint at the 58-59 and 60 Buick grills.
outstanding lines would have been my choice but demented Mary took that chance away for me ,,thumbs down to mary, I thought she would have been an asset but turned out to be the worst .
Sad……I like the exterior better than the CT5.
I’m so so sad that the Lacrosse will not b sold in the USA..I have a 2011 Buick Lacrosse and I love it ..I wanted to get another 2020 but now I cant..so sad to see them leave..
This car would have been on my list to replace my current 2017 Impala in a few years. Too bad Mary just sent me to the foreign competition as I do not want a CUV. You would think with both Ford and Chrysler killing off all of their sedans GM would be smart enough to retain at least one full size car that has a price tag on the right side of 45K. They just handed Toyota and Honda a bunch of full sized sedan sales.
I can’t believe the people are not “boy cot” the whole line of GM vehicles. if they made a decision to make them in China,
let’s make a law if you move business over sea’s then ALL executives and families have to move to that country, to run their business we don’t need them here. It sure amazing how they can send all our technology to a “COMMUNIST “ country. I’m sorry I forgot it’s all about MONEY!! . We LOST JOBS but Chinese have jobs, GOOD WORK GM, Marry Barra, and executives. They sold our country out!! I will never buy a GM vehicle.
the public is responding to foreign built Buicks just look at the jd power stats . Buick almost dead last . what a shame thanks to the dumb heads .. how much longer will it be before Buick is put to rest
I’m tired of the high maintenance and repair cost of my 2016 BMW. The Lacrosse was my choice to replace it in 2020. I will order one now if possible.
