GMC’s carbon fiber bed – branded CarbonPro – will go into production in early June, and 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 models equipped with the unique bed will begin arriving at select dealerships during the summer.
Launch
GMC’s plan to launch the CarbonPro bed involves a special, limited-run model aptly named the GMC Sierra CarbonPro Edition, pictured here.
The Sierra CarbonPro Edition will be available on the half-ton 2019 GMC Sierra Denali and 2019 GMC Sierra AT4. The CarbonPro bed will become available in greater quantity on both trims for the 2020 GMC Sierra.
CarbonPro Benefits
The CarbonPro is the first application of its kind for carbon fiber composite, delivering best-in-class dent, scratch, and corrosion resistance.
Key benefits of the purpose-built bed include:
- Strength, durability and scratch resistance: the carbon fiber composite material provides the most scratch, dent and corrosion-resistant pickup bed in the industry.
- Corrosion-resistance: carbon fiber composite naturally resists corrosion, helping the carbon fiber bed withstand weathering and maintain a premium appearance over the life of the truck.
- Reduced weight: the CarbonPro bed weighs 25 percent less than a traditional steel bed, removing roughly 60 pounds of vehicle mass. Its grained surface also eliminates the need for bed liners, potentially saving further vehicle mass.
- More volume: the CarbonPro bed design enables best-in-class cargo volume, increasing the already class-leading volume of the Sierra’s roll-formed steel bed by 1 cubic foot.
- More functionality: the CarbonPro bed features indentations specifically designed for tires of dirt and street bikes. Two additional tie-down locations are installed at the front of the bed.
GMC rigorously developed the CarbonPro carbon fiber bed to ensure long-term durability and functionality. CarbonPro works in conjunction with the six-function MultiPro tailgate – the same one that makes jaws drop – to deliver the ultimate in hauling functionality.

Forget the carbon bed…..bring back the extended cab……Y all this BS about hp and carbon beds…..give us what we WANT…..reopen the X-TENDED cab assembly lines……SOON! ! !
The extended cabs were relabeled to double cabs when the doors hinges were moved to the B pillar. Most people like the fact that you don’t have to open the front doors in order to open the rear doors.
As an owner of an extended cab truck, I hate having to open the front door to let people out.
Are you……..dense?
This doesn’t look cheap.
I wonder if this box will be available in more than one length? The one pictured is obviously the 69″ “short box”. I doubt it will be offered in an 8′ version, because that box is only available on base Sierra regular cab models, but what about the 6 1/2 foot box.
When I bought my last truck, a 2016 SLT crew cab, I had a difficult time finding an SLT or Denali, with anything but the short box. The short box might be fine for someone who just wants a truck, to use as a car, but for someone who regularly carries things in his truck, even the 6 1/2 foot box is sometimes too small.
I wonder if this box will go over any better than 2002’s Chevrolet Pro-Tec Composite Box?
This won’t last…
Like everything else they come up with. Dealers won’t order it and people aren’t going to wait around for a carbon fiber box.
The Carbon Pro name will be the only thing that lasts. They’ll just go back to steel, keep it black, and charge the same price.
Live to dream.. carbon fiber doors and fenders besides just the bed.
