2015-2017 Chevrolet Trax Recalled For Faulty Lower-Control Arms
23Sponsored Links
General Motors has issued a new recall for the Chevrolet Trax over faulty lower-control arms.
The defect: the front lower-control arm may separate, which could cause the attached front wheel to toe outward.
The hazard: steering and handling will be adversely affected, should the lower-control arm separate. The tire may also rub the wheel well. All instances increase the risk of a crash.
Affected components: suspension.
Affected vehicles:Â
- 2015 Chevrolet Trax
- 2016 Chevrolet Trax
- 2017 Chevrolet Trax
Number of vehicles affected:Â 112,958
The fix:Â GM will instruct owners to bring their Trax to a dealership where a technician will inspect the lower-control arms. Faulty parts will feature bad welds between the component and the bushing. Upon inspection, a technician will replace the lower-control arm if necessary free of charge. GM estimates 50 percent of the recall population houses the defect.
Owners should: bwait notification from General Motors. The automaker does not have an estimated date for when the recall will begin.

Unlike the Kia and Hyundai, this recall is a minor one, and owners don’t have to worry about their engine or wiring catching on fire as they’re driving down the road. And people continue to bad mouth Chevrolets yes?
Yeah I read comments where guys practically think Hyundai and Kia are leaps and bounds ahead of domestics and slotted right below Toyota. Really? Between all the Theta II’s with low mileage engine failures and all the engine fires, they have a long way to go. I had a Kia Spectra and that thing fell apart before my eyes.
I had a 2004 Hyundai Elantra. Drive it to 198,000 miles and all I ever had to do was change the oil and put gas in it. My 1999 Cadillac ate it’s head gasket at under 90k. Please stop trying to make American junk look great. Chevy Impala 3.q also eats head gaskets like it’s its job.
You people who point to examples here of vehicle troubles should do more diligent research.
If you get out in the real world and look what is happening, then read. Both look and read !!!
You would soon discover the reason why there are so many foreign vehicles on the road !!
All this, this brand engine did this, do you know anybody with GM engine troubles ?
GM wiring troubles ? GM break troubles ?
Really !!!!
You know why the names mentioned here are mentioned ??
A few years ago these names were looked upon as a joke !!!
Now they are the competition, and in many cases superior competition.
You know as the GM employee pool of writers shrinks and the GM loyalty continues to shrink, there will be less and less people to spread the false differences of the competition.
One of my friends just got rid of a Ford explorer and a Ford Edge, and bought his second Kia.
So I am learning after 39 years of GM ownership.
Buy the brand you like, from a dealership you can get along with and can trust !!!
They ALL have the good and the bad, and if and when you have troubles it will be the CUSTOMER SERVICE you rely on.
And I can tell you from my experience GM has ZERO CUSTOMER SUPPORT !!!
I have a 2016 trax and add this to the list of known issues it has!
Mine kept stalling in winter even after it had been let to warm up. GM finally figured out they have intercooler issues. I’ve had it stall out and start smoking out of the engine at a stoplight and nobody can figure out why. I drove my 05 cavalier for over 145k miles before selling it to someone else and upgrading. I regret my decision buying this junk everyday. Definitely, rightfully bad mouthing this vehicle. And calling GM CS is like talking to a wall. None of them are aware of anything. I will be trading mine in soon.
Good one GM CS.
Anyone who has dealt with GM knows by now there is ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE !!
Wires catching on fire like the heated seats in the Cadillac CTS ?
I am glad to see SOMEONE FORCED GM to do a RECALL though.
Otherwise there would be thousands of these on the roads and GM would do nothing !!
To the contrary, if something were wrong, GM would be the first to take action, even before someone started talking about it. The Customer Safety department is gun-shy following the entire ignition switch recall fiasco and are very proactive when there are actual safety issues that need to be addressed. No one “forced” them to do it.
They addressed the CTS heated seats recall also.
Call a spade a spade.
Last I knew GM was unhooking the heated seats as a fix.
Not replacing them or fixing them, and not ALL of them just certain owners !!
I am probably wrong on this so sorry for not calling a spade a spade on this.
That was the temporary solution until they could figure out what to do long-term.
They are disabling the heaters that turn on automatically upon remote start. That’s the solution.
That is NOT the solution.
If the CUSTOMER paid for heated seats to come on with the auto start, all three of ours do.
By GM eliminating a paid for feature that in itself is POOR CUSTOMER SUPPORT !!
GM is above average in voluntary recalls. The three worst were Ford, Honda, and FCA.

Ben Smitty,
Do you know how funny posting a link of information from the internet is these days as reliable ?
It is a good joke as a topic of conversation.
For every pro “site” there is an equal number of con “sites”.
In this age of false useless information it will be the sites who prove ” real ” that push forward.
Start reading, read the “real” people sites. If you continuously read you will catch the “real” people having good and bad experiences.
It’s hard to believe you’re having these kinds of issues from a new vehicle. Did you buy it new or used?
No not all of them new.
2017 Denali HD new, headliner rattle, 2 recalls, emission system, fuel cap broken, wrong seatbelt latches, rear wheel bearing star nut could come loose.
2015 GMC Canyon used, transmission shift issues until I got it tuned, works great now. Bandaid clamp on the HVAC door, recall on front seats not latched into the floor, fuel tank vent extended coverage.
2014 Cadillac ATS, used, automatic crash response system, manual automatic switch extended coverage, CUE system delaminated, electric motor could fall off steering gear extended coverage, and still leaking on garage floor from rear differential.
Now GM recalled some of the ATS’s for the same steering gear, motor issue, but I will trust them that ours is not a safety issue because we did not get a recall letter on that.
Mother-in-laws Enclave, used, fuel tank baffle broke extended coverage, when dealer replaced it fuel gauge was faulty. We wanted them to put another new fuel sender in because there was a TSB on the fuel senders, they would not and GM would do nothing, even after we paid to have it done the first time, had it replaced elsewhere has worked ever since. O Enclave, timing chain in 3.6, you know, steering gear at low speeds and she could not turn, air bag connection, HVAC control, heated seat.
ALL letters from GM ALL known issues, HORRIBLE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!
Hard to believe is right !!!
Last three vehicles with all over 140,000 miles 2 Cadillacs and a Silverado HD, NO TROUBLES !!
But this is where I differ from the GM of today.
In the past when I first started owning GM my dealer was 10 miles away. 1980
When I had a issue for the next 30 years, 30 years, I would go to the dealer and they would help.
If there was a known faulty part issue, I would get the part.
Sometimes they would install it, sometimes I would.
But it was a KNOWN PROBLEM.
It didn’t matter if you bought the vehicle new or used, it was a part GM knew was FAULTY, BAD.
It made sense !!!!! Why would it matter where you got your vehicle, new or used ?
Like these timing chain issues in the 3.6.
The head bolt issues in my moms NorthStar.
All of the issues in all of my posts are WELL KNOWN ——–FAULTY PART ——–FAULTY DESIGN, issues.
GM pays for some, repairs for some people, but not for others.
This dealer this, that dealer that.
I have been driving GM products for 39 years, and will continue.
I will fix or have fixed all issues that arise, no problem.
But when I have a 2014 Cadillac ATS 52,000 miles, sitting in my garage right now that leaks more than my 2004 Cadillac CTS 140,000 miles, sitting beside it, there are ISSUES !!! Warranty or not !!!
I can read, GM replaces ALOT of the leaky rear ends, delaminated CUE screens, not the one we got !!! O that’s right we bought it used that does not count.
I wonder why the Cadillac resale value is HORRIBLE, no I don’t, this is why.
I don’t own the 8 speed transmission GM has all the troubles with, But I did have a GM dealer replace 3 transmission in my 1982 Chevy truck. I have owned ALLISONS ever since, or I thought Allison, three of them.
How can GM talk out one side of there mouth we are better than RAM. Yet get sewed on the other side for being worse than RAM.
GM always the excuse lately !!!!
This site is known as a GM fanboy sight, I am a GM fanboy still, the 4 of us in our family own 10 GM vehicles.
The last three have been BAD, and when talking to the GM customer service people just made it the WORST GM EXPERIENCE in 39 years !!!!!
36 years NEVER A CALL TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!! 36 YEARS !!!!!!
People say ” just go buy something else then” GM wont miss you. WHAT. 10 vehicles GM wont miss one family with 10 GM vehicles, and not 10 Chevy Trax !!
If you own a GM truck with over 100,000 GM will recognize this as something special. I have owned at least 4 may be 5 with over that amount ! But I cant get a $5.00 switch replaced in a $48,000 dollar car because I bought it used.
If GM spent as many resources helping CUSTOMERS as they do finding reasons, and excuses why not to help them, this all would be mute.
Any way, SORRY Alex, you are clearly not part of the problem.
Odd, the Encore is not included.
Since they say only half of the Trax have the issue is sounds like an assembly line issue, and so I wonder if the Encores were made somewhere else?
I had the 2015 trax, turbo, nothing but problems from winter 2016 on. Left me almost stranded 6 times, customer service was awful, final straw was last week, It is now gone & I couldn’t b happier
Sister in law has a 2017 AWD and hasn’t had a problem with it.
I got my trax 2016 as a family car. I’ve had nothing but problems with it. I got it brand new. I contacted Corporate and of course they do not care and don’t want to even buy the car back for me so I can get a better car for me my daughter. I hate this car and feel unsafe in it. I only have 53k miles and need to replace to parts that will run me $2000. I’m in Sacramento CA and it’s really hot outside. My a/c is going out. Never have I had a car with this much problem. Never again will I buy from Chevrolet
We purchased my wife’s 2013 Chevrolet Trax (Canada) brand new in spring of 2013. It’s been a reasonably dependable vehicle in that time. However, we’ve only put 76,000 km / 47,000 miles in six years, but it is now fully paid for.
That being said, we’ve had a couple of separate times over the last few years where we had a coolant leak, transmission leak and engine oil leak all at the same time. Happened about two years ago and just recently. Definitely gives me pause for concern on how well this thing will last, especially with Chevrolet’s recent track record. Our next vehicle will likely be Japanese as they seem to be the only ones left that put any work towards longevity and not planned obsolescence.
Help. New control arms installed. Now my electric power steering feels loose, unpredictable. Car squirms on snow and in snowy parking lots. I feel a loss of control when I hit a bump or pothole. Dealer doesn’t see it as a problem. It IS a problem. I feel unsafe. Its a 2017 Trax with 36,000. Steering was perfect, firm and tight before this disasterous recall fix.
Your only remedy is to bite the bullet and trade it in.
