STS Turbo has announced a rather unique rear-mount twin-turbocharger kit that will fit both the LS1 and LS6 V8 engines found in the C5 Corvette.
A rear-mount twin-turbo kit design such as this allows you to keep your stock intake, throttle body, exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters, and mid-pipes. It also negates the need for aftermarket headers and mufflers. This allows you to fit a forced induction system to your Corvette without having to break the bank. STS also says having the turbos mounted out back vastly reduces under-hood temperatures and unclutters the engine compartment. This also helps to simplify the repair process “because there’s no longer any need to remove the turbos or tubing to get to the rest of the engine,” the company says.
This system is located in place of the C5 Corvette’s stock mufflers and attaches to stock mounting points. It includes two STS turbochargers, a front-mounted air-to-air intercooler, 304 stainless steel tubing, a wastegate, blow-off valves, and all the necessary mounting brackets and hardware. A full, detailed color instruction manual is included as well, just in case you plan on installing the bolt-on turbos yourself.
A dyno chart on Holley’s website appears to indicate the rear-mount twin-turbo kit can boost a C5 Corvette to over 535 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque at the wheels with no other mods. It may be an expensive way to make 535 hp, costing $6,000 pre-installation, but we imagine it wouldn’t be hard to tune your LS to make more power than Holley’s example vehicle with some accompanying mods.
