Kyle Busch Beats Blaney To Take NASCAR Win No. 199

Chevrolet once again had a tough day at the track, with a series of Fords and Toyotas occupying the Top 5 in Sunday’s TicketGuardian 500 at ISM Raceway and Toyota driver Kyle Busch taking the win in his No. 18 Toyota Camry.

Busch reeled in Ryan Blaney’s No. 12 Ford Mustang following a late-race restart to take the win, passing the 25-year old on lap 296 of 312 and then pulling out a decent gap over the field. Blaney was then forced to go into fuel saving mode, with Martin Truex Jr. eventually passing him for second and beginning to reel in Busch. Truex just didn’t have the time to catch Busch, however, and finished 1.259s behind him.

“I knew before we went back green (on Lap 239), that we were going to be right on the verge (of running out of fuel),” Busch told NASCAR .com. “You got to go race hard first and then you have to worry about fuel afterwards.”Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series - TicketGuardian 500

“Once I got to Blaney, I was able to save a little bit. Then I tried to take care of my tires for the rest of the traffic that we had to get through and make sure we had enough fuel to make it to the end,” he added.

The result was Busch’s 199th win across NASCAR’s three series. He’s now aiming to achieve 100 wins in the Cup Series, but acknowledges that it can be hard to achieve the same kind of results in today’s NASCAR’s landscape as it once was.

The top-finishing Chevrolet driver was Kyle Larson, who crossed the finish line sixth in his No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Larson was the first among a trio of Camaros that included Kurt Busch (7th) and Jimmie Johnson (8th). Kevin Harvick put up an uncharacteristically mediocre result at his best track (9th) while Joey Logano completed the top 10.

  1. Busch could win 500 races and 25 championships and no one will like him then either….

  2. kyle has more desire to win than the other drivers. win or lose these drivers still make a fortune in salary.

  3. First of all, Larson drives the #42. Second of all, Chevrolet showed a lot more power than they have been. Don’t let the finish tell you everything.

  4. You either win or lose. The finish tells it all.

    1. I must disagree. The finish is important, but Chase Elliott started on the front row, and only did bad because he got a “start violation” Basically, he started before the polesitter, and he said that wasn’t even his fault. Show some optimisim, and look at their good chances.
