The final Chevrolet Cruze hardly got the ceremony its platform counterpart, the Chevrolet Volt, received when production of the plug-in hybrid wrapped up last month. However, we now know the last Chevrolet Cruze will call its birthplace home.
According to local newspaper The Tribune Chronical, the Cruze will reside in the Mahoning Valley after some quick negotiating by dealers and the United Auto Workers union. The car was originally scheduled to be shipped out to a Florida dealership, and ultimately, an unknown party made sure the car stayed in Ohio. Local 1112 President Dave Green said he reached out to make a dealer swap happen but someone had already beaten him to the punch.
The final Cruze, which is finished in white in LS trimmings, will now head to Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman, Ohio. The car already has a buyer, but he or she has decided to remain anonymous until the purchase is complete. According to the dealer, the customer actually reached out to the dealer and said he or she really wanted to purchase the car. The dealer then called the Florida-based dealer and explained the sentimental value of the rather pedestrian white Cruze and agreed to swap the car for another one in its inventory.
The buyer is expected to take delivery of the last Cruze either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Lordstown plant’s last Cruze brought an end to the plant’s decade’s long history. The plant opened in 1966 and built numerous Chevrolet vehicles and their Pontiac cousins. Workers remain somewhat hopeful GM will decide to put a new vehicle in the plant, but the automaker has shown no sign is plans to do so. While the plant is now idle, it hasn’t actually closed officially. The final outcome will be part of UAW labor negotiations this year.

Tell GM that after 40 years of being a loyal purchaser of their products for myself and my family l am done due to their blatant disregard for the american economy and worker. I will be trading my 2018 Silverado for a 2019 Ram and will never purchase another GM product,I will also encourage everyone I know to do the same.See how much money you save now by turning your back on the country that made you.Good riddance to corporate greed and corruption
Joe,
Enjoy your Mexican built Ram and your Chinese goods that furnish your household. Get the point?
Stop crying the blues and look at your own purchasing habits and the people around you.
Bill the Ram is built here
Also Bill I scrutinize everything I purchase and the cost isn’t much of a factor to me. I try to do the right thing.Get the point
Joe,
Depends which trim level is ordered. It could be Michigan or Mexico.
“Regular Cab and some Crew Cab models of the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic are built at the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Saltillo, Mexico.”
The Ram brand was created following Chrysler’s acquisition by Italian automaker Fiat…. might want to research a little more Joe.
I’m a fiscally conservative progressive and have issues with capitalism, but a company has to make sound business decisions to remain viable or everyone loses and not just GM employees and stock and bond holders.
No profit no company, and GM doesn’t make consumer buying choices as to the type of vehicle they want. The market demographic has changed, GM has to adjust or fail.
The Trump supporters working in that plant now have free time to go and apply for food stamps… Lol
While we’re on the subject,I’ll share this link from GM Authority today: As GM Layoffs Rattle Michigan, State’s Voters Begin To Sour On President Trump

Remember when the Orange Pustule came to Ohio and Michigan and lied to everyone,”I’m bringing manufacturing jobs BANK to America”? I do!
John,
Maybe Trump supporters enjoy getting it up the backside? They’re just that kind of people. Lol
What does Trump have to do with a Corporation that took their tax incentives and spit in the face of country that gave them to them. Please try and follow the logic and understand this is not a political decision this is corporate greed at its core. Also remember under Obama the GM bailout. Also nothing to do with Obama. You Trump haters just cannot see the world for what it is.
And you Cheeto acolytes can’t see the forest for the trees. He lied to you, like he lies every time he opens his mouth. I’m bringing manufacturing jobs back to America. Really? Show us. He lied to folks in Ohio and Michigan, period. Last sad laugh is on them for believing that clown.
No jobs? Really?
So I guess the 5 million new jobs since he took office just magically appeared?
I’m sure Amazon, Mercedes, Honda, Carrier, Dow, FCA dont matter right? Look, NY apparently has too many jobs as they just turned 25,000 away. Thanks AOC!
Not to mention the multiple smaller companies in my area that have created jobs; Timmunity pharma (26), Sunmed medical (34), H&H Manu. (87). There has been a total of 3500 jobs added in my area alone since Trump was elected; not to mention the 290 additional skilled trade jobs due to all the new construction/renovation.
I like Trump, even though I disagree with quite a few things he says and does. I would NOT go as far as to say everything he says is a lie.
“NOT go as far as to say everything he says is a lie.”
Henry, maybe think again.
Sean you sure know how to excite the dank basement trolls and get them overheating their little orange fogged brains and keyboards… kudos for bravely reporting the facts despite mentally challenged blowback.
“Let me tell you folks in Ohio and in this area, don’t sell your house. We’re going to get those jobs coming back, and we’re going to fill up those factories or rip them down and build brand-new ones. It’s going to happen.”
– the bigly orange one
just messing with you!!! trump supporters don’t care what he says.
The only thing the angry carrot has achieved is doubling the annual deficit since Obama.
In his latest proposal, he plans on further cutting services, education and health care to build the BS wall and give more $$$ to millionaires and billionaires.
With such a deficit and collapse in tax revenue, trump supporters will be crying while they line-up for their food stamps or local soup kitchen during the next recession.
“Last year, 264,000 new manufacturing jobs were added, representing the highest number of new workers since 1988. As a percent of the total workforce, manufacturing rose for the first time since 1984.” – Market Watch
Not that you’ll do anything with proof…

The party’s over.
Tre Deuce; It appears we have some CNN employees making their political statements against Trump who clearly has no affect on GM’s decision to shutter American plants even though he fought for and secured huge tax breaks for their corporation.Just can’t let their hatred go an really see the forest for the trees.Let me spell it out for them.GM IS CLOSING THE PLANTS NOT TRUMP
Always nice to see Alex Jones post here under the name,”Joe”.
Yeah Joe must be a paid liar/lobbyist/spin master or just another fool who has been duped by the divisived snake oil salesman.
“GM IS CLOSING THE PLANTS NOT TRUMP”
But he promised auto workers that shuttered plants would be re-opened and there would be a stampede to build new ones. HE OBVIOUSLY FOOLED YOU TOO!
Agree, Joe. Trump didn’t make the corporate decision to close plants. It’s his unrealistic bombastic “Promises’ that detractors are making issue with.
And, GM isn’t faultless in its past business practices, but it has to survive in a global market that is changing rapidly and we are only seeing the beginning of these changes which will markedly change the landscape of personal transportation and drive mechanisms in less then 10 years.
With the down fall of this web site I’m going to start looking around.
We used to talk cars and do so intelligently but now it is just a bunch of leftist and union bickering.
Many have left and more will leave. Advertisers will be next.
scott3,
Don’t forget to take you biased GM propaganda with you.
Tre Deuce you make a valid point. My displeasure with GM focuses on how they have treated the country that pulled them out of bankruptcy and incentivized their ability to make greater profits.By closing American plants and contiuing investment in other countries rather than at home is where I have a problem supporting their business model.
Ford has been and will be doing the same thing. GM does started earlier.
Well I guess I won’t be buying a Ford either I will stick to Rams built here for now and in the future support any company that values that mindset. As far as what the future holds only time will tell. I will get on board with any company That invests in this country regardless. As far as politics are concerned look around at the rest of the world that embraces socialism see how far that’s gotten them and go back in history and research their rise and fall.Eventually the people paying for it run out of money ! Just Saying and I know you lefties are going to come out of the woodwork so I bid you all adeau !
Joe,
Are you aware that FCA isn’t even an American company with headquarters in Amsterdam and the UK and through a convoluted use of shell companies pays no taxes in the US?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Chrysler_Automobiles
Germany and most European companies are thriving with social programs that even put Canada to shame. Somehow the 1% has convinced you that this is bad for you as they want all the money for themselves.
Germany has the strongest unions in the world and they also just happen to build the best cars in the world. Coincidence? I think not.
I dont understand why gm cancel this beautiful competent car. Statistically since the introduction of the cruze GM sold world wide more than 8000000 of unit (2018) not every body want and suv. The track and the Buick Encore dont sell very well. Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, and Toyota have introduce new models in 2018 and 2019. Why let the market to the Japan and the Korean. Why G.M. not hire Carlos Ghosn who have save Nissan of bankruptcy, im am sure he can do a better job tan Mary Barra.
Duh! Because Ghosn is in jail, for one….
Bob you miss the point I’m not against foreign companies investing in our country. For that i will support them as well. And as far as a country the size of Germany paying close to 50 percent in taxes as is Canada and most other socialist nations by all means go live there.I will stay here in the good ole USA
Joe,
When you don’t know any better… It is surprising that 70% of Americans don’t own a passport.
Look at these socialist countries suffering in agony.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/27/us-news-world-report-10-countries-with-the-best-quality-of-life.html
Bob last and final comment.I lived in Canada for a number of years.I have been around the world and returned here because with all its faults it is still the greatest country in the world.By all means get yourself a passport and go support some socialist country. Its all good!
Employee at Sweeney here, can confirm this Cruze is sitting pretty waiting for its delivery. Quite a few people have come to make a pilgrimage to see it.
