An entire lot of cars that were driven or inspired by Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be sold at Mecum’s upcoming auction in Phoenix.
The lot of cars includes several Earnhardt Edition fourth-generation Camaros, a handful of C6 Corvette NASCAR pace cars, Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr.-driven NASCAR Cup Series race cars and much more.
By far the most notable of the cars in the collection is the 1994 Chevrolet Lumina NASCAR race car (above), which Earnhardt clinched his seventh NASCAR Cup championship in after finishing second at Atlanta. Earnhardt also claimed two other Cup Series wins in the car along with a handful of other second and third place finishes. Presented in the iconic No. 3 GM Goodwrench livery, this is easily one of the most recognizable race cars of all time. Mecum expects it to fetch anywhere from $200,000-$300,000 when it goes up for sale later this month.
Another interesting car in this auction is the 1989 Chevrolet Lumina Cup Series car (above), which was actually Earnhardt’s road course car for the 1989 NASCAR season and was raced at Watkins Glen and Sonoma.
If you’re more into cars you can drive on the road, this stylish 1993 Chevrolet Camaro Earnhardt Edition (below) may be more to your tastes. It has just 811 miles on its V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission and is just 1 of 3 Earnhardt Edition Camaros built for this model year. An interesting aside – it was also sold new from Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, North Carolina.
Other notable lots in the sale include a handful of Hummer H1 Alphas, two 2010 Camaro SS Hall of Fame Editions, a 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Pace car and more. Great cars from one of the greatest to ever sit in any race car!!!! Petty was great in his time, and Earnhardt was great in his!!!
No matter if it was a Lumina or Monte Carlo, Dale’s black #3 was and always will be THE quintessential racecar in my mind.
One minor point: I believe Earnhardt clinched his seventh the race before Atlanta by simply starting the race in Phoenix. Back then consistency and racing hard all year mattered. If you won a championship you earned it.
Always knew NPWSBP was an uneducated hillbilly. Lol
My favorite driver was always Dale Sr as he was so fun to watch. Even if the car was off he would get more from it than he should have.
But as for best driver and smart driver it was David Pearson. He was smooth smart and seldom made a mistake. If he had run full time he would not have just won 3 championships.
Even Dale Sr said David was one of the greatest he ever saw race and drove against. I think he only placed his father a Ralph as better.
+1 for fun to watch.
David Pearson’s peak came a bit before my peak interest, but his 113 poles alone (in cars that were anything but easy to drive) says a lot about what he could do with a racecar. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad word spoken about him either.
