Chevrolet Discounts Malibu 21% In March 2019

Chevrolet Malibu sales decreased 17 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018, falling faster than the 12 percent segment average. That means that the ongoing drop in Malibu sales can not be totally blamed in the ongoing change in consumer purchase dynamics towards crossovers, SUVs and trucks. So, in what could possibly be an effort to boost sales of the midsize sedan in light, a new Chevrolet discount reduces the price of the Malibu by over 21 percent during the month of March that – in some cases – equates to over $7,000.

The Incentive

Nationwide Chevrolet discounts on the Malibu are as follows:

  • 2019 Malibu: 21 percent below MSRP (for current competitive owners) on most models when financing with GM Financial
    • Example offer: $6,136 purchase cash + 1,044 price reduction below MSRP = $7,180 total discount
  • 2019 Malibu excluding L models: $750 cash allowance + $1,500 customer cash = $2,250 total cash allowance when financing with GM Financial
  • 2019 Malibu: $500 APR cash + 0 percent APR for 72 months (interest-free) when financing with GM Financial
  • 2018 Malibu: 20 percent below MSRP on most models when financing with GM Financial
  • 2018 Malibu excluding L models: $750 cash allowance + $2,500 customer cash = $3,250 total cash allowance when financing with GM Financial
  • 2018 Malibu excluding L models: $1,000 APR cash + 0 percent APR for 72 months (interest-free) when financing with GM Financial

Notably, the 21 percent Chevrolet discount is restricted to current competitive owners.

It’s worth noting that the 20 percent below MSRP and the $3,250 discount on 2018 Malibu models is likely intended to clear out remaining inventory of pre-facelift, 2018 models.

About Chevrolet Malibu

The Chevrolet Malibu is a mid-size sedan sold in most markets where Chevrolet has a business presence. It is currently Chevrolet's second-largest sedan, in the U.S. and Canada, slotting above the subcompact Chevrolet Sonic and compact Chevrolet Cruze but under the full-size Chevrolet Impala.

The current, ninth-generation model was introduced in 2016. It rides on the GM E2 platform shared with the Buick Regal, Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, Holden Commodore NG, and the Cadillac XT4.

For 2019 - the fourth model year of the ninth-gen model - the Malibu received a midcycle enhancement, otherwise known as a facelift or refresh, that consists of revised exterior styling, a new Malibu RS trim level, a CVT transmission for L, LS, LT and RS models, a new infotainment system, a new 8-inch reconfigurable driver information center (DIC), LED headlamps on the Premier model, and various other new features.

  1. Nice to see an uptick in Malibu sales partly to do with the Cruze’s death. It’s one hell of a car in 2.0t powered versions.

  2. So for the last few months the Malibu has been offering discounts but still losing sales compared to the competition. Think there could some other reason they are losing sales other than price. The one car that would have been my choice they are getting rid of. As a matter of fact it was doing a lot better in its class than the Malibu despite the fact they pretty much ignored it. No updates,no advertising and ect.

    1. Love it! Make vehicles people want, style it right, make the power trains smooth, make the interior wonderful and touch points quality, and price it right… and spend something on marketing…. and keep it updated. Look at the Challenger and Charger, and others… GM is run by fools who are stock watchers not a company that makes quality products their customers “gotta have”!

Just enough means you discount your products by 20% in mid cycle then you kill it…

  3. The current Chevrolet Impala is so much bigger, better, and more potent with its six-cylinder offering than this Chevy Malibu, and I am thinking the Malibu is next to get axed soon with decreasing sales and not profitable enough even with fleets.

  4. This is GREAT! BUT… those discounts on MSRP come right back as a higher APR. GM Financial isn’t stupid. My roommate got a Chevy Equinox LT 2.0L Turbo, loaded w/ extras for $27k after discounts. He had a credit score of 780, and his APR w/ GM Financial was 8.98%. He’s refinancing through his credit union in 90 days. GM can suck ?

    1. Allow me to inform you, GM doesn’t give a f**k who he finances it through…… he already bought an Equinox…….thats really all that matters.

  5. Malibu should be outselling both Fusion and Altima. It’s got a sharp exterior design, great handling but sub par interior–even higher trim levels fail to look as good as the (discontinued) base Chrysler 200.
Mary Barra and Co are thick: Once Ford exits sedans GM will have a great opportunity to gain customers with both Malibu (and Cruze which shouldn’t be axed) so long as they get a reskin/interior upgrades/good marketing.
