2020 Silverado HD LTZ: Live Photo Gallery

Having shown you live photos of Chevy’s all-new 2020 Silverado Custom and LT 71, here’s another live photo gallery of Chevy’s big boy truck. This time around, the subject of this shoot is the 2020 Silverado HD LTZ.

The LTZ trim is positioned one level below the range-topping High Country in the 2020 Silverado HD lineup. This particular unit is the 2500HD coated in the Cajun Red Tintcoat color, which is available at an extra charge and is not available on Work Truck or Custom trim levels.

Equipment Group: 1WT 1CX 1LT 1LZ 3LZ

The exterior design of the Silverado HD LTZ takes the chrome theme of the LT model to the next level, featuring a bright grille surround and chrome-accented grille inserts, along with the flow-through CHEVROLET name. The grille on Silverado HD LTZ models would typically feature a small Bowtie emblem on the bottom end. But that model is replaced with the Z71 badge on this model, since this truck is so equipped.

The front bumper is finished in bright chrome. The headlamps feature LED reflectors for the primary lighting unit as well as LED daytime running lamps (DRLs). The front quarter panel wears the Z71 badge, which is in place of the 4×4 badge that’s used on models without the Z71 offroad package.

2500HD and 3500HD SRW models feature standard 18-inch aluminum wheels with 20-inch wheels available. 3500HD DRW has standard 17-inch steel wheels and 17-inch polished forged-aluminum wheels are available.

The 2020 Silverado HD LTZ rides on different wheels, depending on the model: 2500HD and 3500HD single rear wheel (SRW) models feature standard 18-inch aluminum wheels that are upgradeable to 20-inch units. 3500HD dual rear wheel (DRW/duallies) feature 17-inch steel wheels, with 17-inch polished forged-aluminum units available. This unit is wearing the six-spoke, 18-inch machined aluminum units with silver painted accents.

The new BedStep, an integrated step located at front of the rear wheel openings that improves access to the cargo area, is present and accounted for on all 2020 Silverado HD models – including this one. The door handles are chrome on the 2020 Silverado HD LTZ model. We also see the optional, factory-installed 6″ assist steps that are chrome and rectangular (RPO code BVQ).

The Z71 Off-Road and Protection Package, assigned RPO Code PDZ, includes the following content:

  • Off-Road suspension with off-road tuned twin tube shocks (Z71)
  • Hill Descent Control (JHD)
  • Skid plates (transfer case and oil pan) (NZZ)
  • Chevytec spray-on bedliner (CGN)
  • All-weather Z71 floor liners (AAK, LPO)
  • Z71 grille insert (replaces Bowtie emblem)
  • Z71 fender badge (replaces “4X4” decal on bed)

Like in the front, the rear bumper is finished in bright chrome. The tailgate features the debossed Chevrolet script, along with a Silverado nameplate on the driver’s side and an LTZ nameplate on the passenger-side. The taillamps are LED-based, as is the Cargo Area Lighting that’s located in the pickup bed.

The new Silverado HD is offered with two engine choices: GM’s all-new 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline motor making an SAE-certified 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque mated to GM’s 6L90 6-speed automatic transmission. The celebrated 6.6L V8 L5P turbo-diesel Duramax mated to a 10-speed “Allison” transmission making 445 horses and 910 pound-feet of torque is an extra-cost option. This 2020 Silverado HD LTZ cradles the optional Duramax mill.

  1. Just seems to be an extreme contrast in styling, with a very simple exterior on the sides and rear and overly busy front end. Like they tried every idea they could think of, on the front end of at once.

    1. I agree with that. For me, the sides and backs of both this and the 1500’s are great. It’s the front ends that go all wrong for my tastes. I think on the HD, the High Country is the only one I can say I like. It still could be more cohesive though.

      1. I don’t think it will take long for Chevrolet to do a redesign of the front end if they want to sell trucks. GMC on the other hand will more than likely see a huge increase in sales from GM loyalist wanting a GM Truck.

    2. That was my thought, What the hell are they trying to do, throw a bunch of crap together into a pile. no theme, no style ….ugly …. & I am a chev/CMC fan ..

  2. GM, should make the Z71 a package in the Colorado lineup. WT, LT, LTZ and maybe High Country, not like nowdays WT, LT and Z71.

  3. I have owned Chevy trucks since I was old enough to drive. I currently own a 2015 Crew 2500 HD LTZ, and was considering upgrading to the 2020 until I saw the photos. I hope they immediately dump this disaster of a design. There are so many talented RestoMod guys on Youtube who could take a classic Chevy design and work wonders on it in minutes. Whoever designed this garbage definitely doesn’t know or care anything about Chevy Trucks or their buyers. I cannot imagine any self-respecting Chevy owner wanting that face sitting in their driveway.

  4. All these negative nillies. These new Silverado HDs look great. They took a big chance on the design and it look good. And it will pay off, big time.

  5. Oh geez now I understand what happend to all of the Pontiac designers. The design philosophy is totally Pontiac. Will be interesting to see what happens.

  7. Have always loved the Silverado, but now with a bad back. Driving for 3,4 hrs, it’s really ruff,,these engineers need to use there head and design a ride that will compete with all the competition..

  8. So I believe the designers tried to replicate the front end similar to the 1960’s Medium Duty. I like some the redesign and some of it I feel could have been done differently. I do not like the black protective trim around the wheel wells on the Chevrolet HD as GMC had been doing. I think the grill could have been designed a little more solid looking. Even some of the new 2019 1500 models look like they are missing a bumper because of redesign. Glad I got my 2018 but GM should have improved the transmission engine issues instead of a redesign. Wish I had a 2018 3500 Duramax/Allison or a 1998 C2500/3500.

  9. Chevy is trying really hard to even catch up with Dodge Ram’s. It’s only March 2019…2019! I’m telling you Chevy owners…swallow your pride and test drive a Dodge Ram. You will feel the rams growing from your head!

All the chrome on the 2020 Chevy is not impressive. The interior is still ancient.

    1. To you smart allect I have this to say
Where i live 3 years ago people were falling for Ram;because they were cheaper;after 3 years of finance cause nobodys got the oop to own a truck any more they did not buy a Ram again.
Why do you think that is so?
      Waiting for you honest answer.

    2. Talk to me after you have owned your Dodge for about 15 years, lets see if you feel the same way. I usually keep my trucks a long time and expect them to earn their keep without costing me an arm and a leg! Don’t get me wrong, things will break, but I have never did anything major to any of my GM trucks. I currently own a 96 K2500 6.5 diesel and an 05 Silverado 3500 with 8.1 Allison combo. If I was in the market, I would be shopping GMC!

    3. I test drove a 2019 Ram 2500 Crew 4×4 with the gas engine and thought it had barely adequate power (and that was with no load). Note quite as bad as the equal Ford F250 gasser, but in the same ballpark. Overall, the Dodge was very underwhelming and a bit overpriced for what it is. I loved the F250 Ford styling inside and out and thought for sure I would ultimately buy the Ford when I saw the numbers and left the dealer. But then I drove the Silverado 2500. The Chevy 2500 gasser with its far less HP and torque (on paper) felt considerably more powerful, far better throttle response, better ride, and just better all around. Might not be the most stylish, but I dont mind the classic-ish look of the now outgoing 2500.

  10. I don’t see what people are complaining about. I was a little apprehensive when I first saw it, but this has grown on me quicker than the 2019 Camaro SS or Silverado did.

  11. Am In the only one praying for a Midnight edition? I actually went to order a 2019 3500 dually 2 weeks ago, and GM had already closed the order books. No all black “sport aprearace package” LTZ dually’s with 6-passenger seating on the ground either.

So I guess I will order one of these ugly beasts and hope the front end grows on me, as the rest of the truck looks sweet…

  12. For me, it’s the ability to make a deal and I have relationships with chevy dealers. Dodge is not in the conversation for me, ford could be, but it’s t h e dealer relationship that drives it for me.
The redesign of the DEF filler and guage over the previous years is a giant plus.
I’LL be swapping my 2017 dually high country for the 2020 when they release it.
All the nonsense about “ugly” or other cosmetic nonsense is just that. As they say, beauty is in the eye…….
I see nothing ugly in any of the trucks, dodge, ford or GM.
If I want pretty, i’ll look around and ask my wife’s opinion. Who cares if some dodge/ford lover thinks it’s ugly. It’ll be my $$ buying it, not theirs………

    1. The Chevy is hideous and the interior is cheap… oh and I don’t drive a pickup

      1. The interior is not cheap. It’s mostly soft touch and very durable. It’s missing eye catching plastic pieces that people like you that don’t drive pickups mistake as quality.

  13. Chevy. Weds to work on improving the 2019. Additional chrome on the 2020 design is only setting them further back.
Remember swallow the pride and face the facts.
All trucks are great but accepting constructive criticism will only result in superiority.

  14. Anybody know yet what RPM max torque for gas motor is at?

    Reply
    1. 2020 6.6 v8
      401 hp @ 5200 rpm’s and 464 ft lbs at 4000 rpm’s both sae certified

the old 8.1 big block v8
      330 hp @ 4200 rpm’s and 450 ft lbs 3200 rpm’s

I’m hoping the 10 speed allison has a lower range to give the new trucks the same or more pull than the old 8100’s. I’m also curious about what kind of fuel mileage they will get empty and loaded.

      Reply
      1. GM has already announced that 6.6 will get paired exclusively to the 6L90 transmission with some added clutches.
That said, it is still going to be a beast.

  15. What is the highest trim level one can get and still retain a bench front seat?
While I think the front is ugly, it doesn’t matter because I don’t really think any of the trucks has a “pretty” face.
They pretty much are inspired by the same idea, look “tough” and terrify pedestrians, so they tend to look alike.
I still will be buying a 2020 Silverado 2500 Diesel HD, and will keep it a standard two or three years, and replace it with the next ugly face.

    1. On the 2019 K2’s, the LTZ came standard with the 40/20/40 bench. Not sure about the 20’s, but I will find out soon enough.

  19. I actually like the styling.

I can’t get over how much bigger/taller the new Silverado HD’s are. The highest max towing in its class is a darn nice feature.

  20. Was a Rubbermaid garbage can the inspiration for the interior styling? Everything just looks like big, bulbous, molded plastic.
