2020 Cadillac XT6 Offers Most USB Ports In Its Class

It’s no secret that technology is becoming a bigger part of our everyday lives, and automakers are responding by bringing advanced technologies and tech features to new automobiles. A perfect example of this development is the ever-increasing amount of USB ports, of which the 2020 Cadillac XT6 will have six.

As first discovered by our sister site, Cadillac Society, the XT6 three-row luxury crossover SUV will have two USB ports for each row. Of these six, two are Type-A ports and four are Type-C.

The USB ports (and other charge ports) in the 2020 Cadillac XT6 are distributed as follows:

First Row

  • 2 USB ports (1 Type A, 1 Type C)
  • SD Navigation Map Slot
  • 12V Accessory Power Outlet
  • Center console bin, underneath the armrest

Second Row

  • 2 USB ports (1 Type A, 1 Type C)
  • Back of the console

Third Row

  • 2 USB ports (Type C)
  • Quarter trim on the left and right sides

Fourth Row

  • 12V Accessory Power Outlet (APO)
  • In cargo area, on rear quarter trim, driver’s side

The 2020 Cadillac XT6 lands in a growing field of luxury “midsize plus” crossovers with three rows of seating – the Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60, Lexus RX-L, and Lincoln Navigator. Only one of these models – the Infiniti – offers more USB ports than the XT6, for a total of eight. The rest, meanwhile, offer less: the Volvo and Audi only have two USB ports while the Lexus RX-L has four.

Clearly, Cadillac understands the importance of staying connected while avoiding the nuisance of passengers fighting over a limited amount of charging and USB ports in a vehicle. Now, each XT6 passenger can have a dedicated USB port on XT6 models with the six-passenger seating configuration… though units of the XT6 with the seven-passenger seating setup will leave one passenger without a USB port (that’s when a 12V to USB adapter comes in handy).

The plethora of USB ports puts an end to the days of worrying about a low battery on a phone or tablet – whether around town or on long trips. Just hop in, plug in, and enjoy the ride.

As consumers become ever more connected via mobile devices like smartphones, tablets and smart watches, especially in their vehicles, a class-leading number of USB ports is an important win for the XT6.

      1. When I click your link it says “8 USB ports (2 ports for iPod and compatible devices; 6 ports for charging)
[*]” I believe the 2018 had 6 (front two being located inside the center console) and they added two charge only ports to the lower dash for 2019….That would explain why there’s some confusion and 6 ports appears…

        1. Yep, missed the summary at the top and went right for the detail listing. I just presumed the charging and connection ports were an overlap in usage.

    2. A dealer website isn’t much of a source (if you knew the inner workings of some dealers, you’d know what I mean). Here’s official info from Infiniti:

“Standard connectivity and entertainment features include the INFINITI InTouchTM system with Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant, Streaming audio via Bluetooth, six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (SiriusXM subscription required, separately available) and USB connection port for iPod interface and other compatible devices. Six additional USB charging ports are found in the cabin, two convenient for first-row seating, two for the second row and two for the third row.”

It’s unclear as to whether the QX60 has six total or eight total. You can see how it is not entirely clear.

Assuming that it’s eight, one can make the argument that the Infiniti is not in the same class as the XT6 based on price point alone.

In the meantime, we’ll make some updates to the article.

      1. “Infiniti is not in the same class” but the article mentions infiniti and the price gap is only roughly $8K…

        1. An $8K difference in STARTING prices is already a significant gap for vehicles that are in the “same class”. Most models in the same class are a couple hundred to a couple thousand apart.

That said, the QX60 and XT6 will be cross-shopped and cross-considered significantly.im just playing devils advocate to your initial comment 😉

  5. So basically the only selling point of this car is that it has a bunch of USB ports even-though every single one of its competitors offers a better all around package?

    1. I’m curious how you reached the conclusion that competitors offer a “better all around package”. Have you lived with all of the cars in question? Heck, have you driven the XT6? Have you even seen one in person?

Mark my words: the XT6 may not be exciting to the enthusiast crowd, but it will fly off deaer lots and Cadillac/GM will be laughing all the way to the bank, and then making a better one, while investing money in making some nice performance luxury sedans and coupes.

      1. Not so sure about that. The more these things cost, the more people will research before pulling the trigger. That said research shows that The Aviator will be a better vehicle for similar price. Road sensing suspension, Road predicting suspension, air suspension, 600 pound feet of torque, and a better interior leads one to believe that it will be a superior vehicle. Let’s not forget the plug-in hybrid option. I hope your comment about building a better one is correct, but if GM sells these as you presume, then they will continue their half-ass product strategy.

  6. Are there any 110V AC outlets?

    1. Doesn’t seem that way. It’s not in the order guide nor does the XT5 have it.

  7. As I recall, Mary Barra said during the hearings before Congress regarding the ignition switch failures that GM liked to prioritized features that “delight” customers. I suppose GM feels folks are delighted by USB ports.

  9. Flying off dealership lots just may not be a true observation as no one has lived in this car for a good week and not on GM’s proving grounds . They have over-priced the XT6 when yu compare it to the new TELLURIDE .Which I just drove and it is truly a luxury SUV . We waited 2 years from JDN for a longer XT5 . This is a hot segment , but peole want value for their money . Once people oover look the KIA name and spend a weekend with their new offering , Cadillac may have a true competitor as will Lincoln .

“Once people oover look the KIA name”

Not gonna happen. The Kia brand name is perpetually wed to the poor-credit rating market, and will be unable to move upmarket if they continue to made low-price, high-volume vehicles. Same with Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Dodge, Fiat, and to the late Pontiac and Scion.

Remember when Kia advertised that it would would shatter the full-size luxury market with the cut-rate Kia Amanti? Remember how the Amanti, by offering a lower price and going for volume sales, would scare away the S-Class?

Does the phrase ‘fit for a king’ ring a bell? How about all the associated marketing that tired to convince Americans that Kia was of equal standing to Mercedes and Audi?

Kia is not in a position to command Mercedes or even Cadillac money, and since luxury is not a value proposition, Kia also isn’t any position to convince any luxury consumer that what they offer is exclusive and worthy of paying more for.

Simply put, affordable luxury is a contraction.

Besides, Hyundai proper already has Genesis, and since Genesis doesn’t have the negative baggage that comes with Kia having spent the last 30 years going after the poor-credit crowd, then it would be Genesis’ activity that should concern Cadillac, not Kia.

  10. perhaps they could include a hub for every port, imagine what that would add up to 🙂
