Pro touring cars are more popular than ever, but it can be difficult and time consuming to build your own or to have one built for you. You may want to buy a pre-built pro touring muscle car, then, and luckily for you, there’s are no shortage of them for sale online.
We recently came across an over-the-top pro touring 1969 Chevrolet Camaro build with an over-the-top price tag listed for sale on Motorious. Described as an “unbelievable car,” by the sellers, the well-known experts at Detroit Speed spared absolutely no expense when putting this Camaro together. It has won numerous awards that may or may not matter to you, such as the General Motors design award for Best Chevrolet Sports Car at the 2014 SEMA Show and the first ever Battle of the Builder contest, and is being offered in showroom condition.
The centerpiece of Detroit Speed’s 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is the 7.0-liter Mast Motorsports LSX engine, which has been topped off with a Magnuson supercharger and makes over 800 hp at the crank. Funnelling power to the rear wheels is a 5-sped Tremec manual transmission built by Detroit Speed, while a full Baer brake kit helps bring things to a stop. Other notable goodies include a NASCAR-style gas cap, a full cage, Recaro race seats, a Hurst shift knob and a Racepak digital dash display with a data logger.
We joked earlier about the questionable importance of the various rewards this car has received, but the accolades are indicative of the overall quality of workmanship on display with this build. But good work aint’ cheap and cheap work aint’ good, as the saying goes, so this thing carries an insane price tag of nearly $450,000. We’re still not quite sure why it’s so expensive and it’s probably not the best value considering its questionable projected value in years to come, but it’s hard not to appreciate a build like this.
