Mid-Engine C8 Corvette To Feature Sequential Turn Signal Indicators

On Friday, we captured spy shots showing the production headlights and taillights of the upcoming mid-engine Corvette C8. Now, we’d like to focus on one particular feature of its taillamps – the dynamic turn signal indicator sequence.

Mid-Engine Corvette C8 - Spy Shots - Exterior - February 2019 043 - production taillights

The turn signal indicator on the taillight of the Corvette C8 is represented by a thin, textured red line of LED lights. The indicator sequence commences inboard, closer to the middle of the taillight, and progresses outboard, toward the outside edge of the vehicle.

The sequence is somewhat reminiscent to the one seen on the new/current Audi A4 range (shown in the video below), though done in a different fashion. Whether the mid-engine C8 Corvette features a similar lighting sequence at the front is currently unknown, since we weren’t able to capture the prototype with the turn signal indicator enabled from the front.

  1. Question for you, Alex,

Usually when Chevy starts using production headlights and taillights on these camouflaged test mules, it tends to indicate that they are very close to revealing them. Does your info so far still indicate a Summer reveal?

  2. Looks to me like this car is also rockin some side mirror indicators. I’m a fan of that.

  3. And in other news, the 1965 Ford Thunderbird will also be using sequential turn signals.

    1. That’s what I was thinking too Mike. The T-Bird had that back in the 60’s….. So it’s not a new idea on GM’s part. Or Audi’s for that matter…

      1. What about the Cougar and the Mustang?

  4. Oh Lord, please don’t let Chevrolet copy a lowly Mustang…

  5. Shouldn’t a Corvette have round taillights anyway? Virtually every Corvette sold from 1953 till the C7 had round taillights sometimes a single round light per side but mostly in pairs. I say virtually because from ’58 to ’60, the round light is enclosed with a more linear cover so those years are debatable. Even the C7 has a sort of squared off variation of the twin round rear lamp theme. A Corvette with a horizontal strip light would just be heresy.

  6. Maybe Corvette can make the skinny sequential indicators their own

  7. Now we know the real reason for the electrical problems delay. LOL 🙂
