Regular Cab, Standard Bed Not Available On 2019 Silverado 1500

The launch of the 2019 Silverado 1500 is well underway, with all model variants either available already, or becoming avaialble in the short-term. And while the Regular Cab models are next in line to arrive, there’s one configuration that won’t carry over from the last-generation, K2 platform Silverado. That model is the Regular Cab with the Standard Box. Instead, 2019 Silverado 1500 units with a Regular Cab will only be available in conjunction with a Long Bed.

This means that buyers looking for the all-new, 2019 Silverado 1500 with a Regular Cab are limited to getting the Long Box. Otherwise, those who prefer a Standard Box are limited to either the Double Cab or Crew Cab, which carry MSRPs of $33,695 and $36,395 respectively.

All of the configurations listed above for the 2019 Silverado 1500 will be available after the model completes its launch cadence by the end of the first quarter.

About Chevrolet Silverado

The Chevrolet Silverado is a lineup of full-size pickup trucks sold primarily in North America, but also in the Middle East and in certain markets in South America. Slotting above the mid-size Chevrolet Colorado (known as the S10 in some markets), the Silverado is Chevrolet's largest pickup truck and currently consists of the 1500 light duty model, two Heavy Duty models - the 2500HD and 3500HD, as well as Conventional Class 4, Class 5 and Class 6 Medium Duty models - the Silverado 4500HD and Silverado 5500HD and Silverado 6500HD.

The 2018 Chevy Silverado represents the fifth model year of the third-generation Silverado. It is based on the GM K2 platform shared with other full-size pickup trucks and SUVs from GM. Though the line sold relatively well, it became less competitive in the marketplace with time when compared to its primary Ford F-Series rival, due to lacking cutting-edge features such as turbocharged engines, a rugged off-road variant such as the Ford F-150 Raptor, a diesel engine option in the light duty (1500) model, and also various modern features and equipment.

Luckily, an all-new Silverado arrived for the 2019 model year that addresses many of the issues of its predecessor model. Customers began taking delivery of the all-new truck in the second half of August 2018.

Chevrolet says that the all-new 2019 Silverado is the result of over 7,000 customer interviews - the most intensive research in its history. The new model uses higher grade alloy steel in the bed floor as well as various mixed materials that result in a reduction in weight and improved performance, with weight falling about 450 pounds. The truck also offers an expanded amount of models for a total of eight, including the new 2019 Silverado Trailboss.

Riding on GM's new T1 platform shared with other future GM full-size trucks and SUVs, the 2019 Silverado offers more technology, convenience features, and engine/transmission combinations. While details of five powertrain combos have already been revealed, GM has not yet shared details of the new inline-six 3.0L Duramax Diesel engine, only stating that it will be "best-performing" and that it will be mated to GM's new 10-speed transmission.

Notably, the outgoing, Chevy will continue manufacturing and selling the outgoing, K2 generation Silverado alongside the all-new model for a limited amount of time in limited configurations.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD

Having overhauled the Silverado 1500, Chevy will next overhaul the Silverado Heavy Duty. The brand released a teaser image of the upcoming all-new 2020 Silverado HD in April 2018 and announced the vehicle in November 2018. The truck will launch in the 2019 calendar year as a 2020 model.

The 2020 Silverado HD will be comprised of the Silverado 2500HD and Silverado 3500HD that ride on a more robust and capable version of the new T1 platform when compared to the 2019 Silverado 1500, while sharing many high-tech features and design elements with its light duty brother.

Completing the overhauled Silverado family is the 2019 Silverado Medium Duty series, comprised of the Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD.

        1. I agree Chevy is definitely loosing customers with there new style of trucks I just don’t get the way the front end looks. Luckily GMC looks much better.. I’m Also extremely disapointed when they dropped production of the regular cab short bed trucks!! The CEO’s must be completed nuts to do such a thing. Long beds have no kind of style

          1. Long beds are work trucks. They have plenty of style and function.
But I have to laugh when I see people saying they should have short beds available, or manual transmissions, or even regular cabs. You people need to go out and buy them if you want them to make them! I was luckily able to talk a dealer into ordering a 2018 regular cab short box, knowing that they would soon be no longer available. Of course, the manual trans has been gone for ten years already. But even back in 1988, I had to order a manual in a K1500 to get one. No one had one on the lot.

  2. The only way to get the long bed is with the regular cab?

I was hoping that they’d have offered the 8.5′ bed with the “cab and a half”/extended cab like they have with every Silverado between the 1980s to 2014.

  4. Why is it that the “Silverado for everyone” has less options, combinations of features, and appeal than Silverados of the past? Not to mention the pug nose styling and awful fender/bumper match. It’s a good thing the GMC looks a lot better, but I don’t think it will have a single cab at all. It’s a good thing for me that I need/drive 3500s.

    1. The more I look at the Silverado, the less I like the styling. Looks like several committees styled it and didn’t talk to each other.

Sad to say but it makes the new Ram look really handsome . I fear the sale race between Chevy and (Dodge) Ram will become even tighter.

  5. I hope GM is happy with the Silverado in 3rd place. They totally did it to themselves.

    1. More like last place. I’m wondering what is going on with these trucks because I have seen a ton of them around the truck plant in Ft Wayne testing something. Trucks have MFG plates on them. They are not Duramax equipped trucks either…. Crew and Double cabs

  6. Was hoping that this was just a rumor, but sorry to say it’s true. What a joke. Ford just announced a regular cab short box Lightning. Chevy is gonna lose more buyers. Who the heck makes these dumb decisions?! As a reg cab short box owner this is upsetting. Chevy telling me what I should buy and drive. Yeah, right.

      1. I guess it’s goodbye to the reg cab standard box sport truck look. It’s funny that GM makes them out of country but not in the US. You can’t and never will get that sport looking truck with a four door or long bed. So sad that GM is not putting customers first anymore. It’s also funny that Ford and Ram have no problem making a reg cab standard box truck. Guess it’s time to move on and say goodbye to GM.

  7. I finally realize I must be old. When did the standard 8’ bed become the long bed? If you wanted a single cab work truck it came with an 8’ bed. I still think of a 6’-6” bed to be short bed and 5’- 6” bed of crew cabs to be ultra short.

    1. an 8 foot bed has ALWAYS been the long bed…

      Reply
      1. No, for most of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and some of the 90’s, the regular cab with standard eight foot bed was the most popular model. The 6.5′ bed was the short bed and no other length was available except for GM’s short-lived 9 foot Longhorn model. Only when pickups with backseats started becoming popular did the short bed become standard, even on heavy duty models.

  11. Have owned GM reg cab shortboxes (now standard box) for 30 years, all with uplevel trim and biggest engine I could buy. Perfect combination of utility, styling, handling, power and mileage for me. I guess my current Sierra will be my last GM.

  13. They will tell us next year no regular cabs at all because of low sales. They were already slowly disappearing from dealer lots last few years. Mine happened to be in lot cause dealer traded for it. Unreal! A black shirt box reg cab in black with chrome package. Sweet ride.

  15. Unbelievable !! I’ve been a staunch GM guy forever. I’ve bought new GM regular cab short box trucks for 37 years. Why you ask; way better looking, better maneuverability – it epitomizes sport truck. I don’t want or need a fugly 4 door barge of a truck. Like many other enthusiast I’ve been waiting for the release of the ’19 reg cab short box. Another epic fail by GM. How much more of a cost to GM would it be to carry over the reg cab short box – minimal. They’re alienating a significant enthusiast truck buying base. See ya GM…I’m moving on to a manufacture that listens and cares about their customer base. Its clearly time for a senior management change for the GM Truck program – third place ranking across the board for a brand new platform. Embarrassing epic fail. Couldn’t be more disappointing.

  16. I’ve been waiting to order a regular cab with 8′ box for months. They were supposed to be available in 4th quarter 2018 but still nothing! A double cab with an 8′ box is too long for maneuverability and parking. Was going to order a W/T with multiple options but that black grille is butt ugly!! Running out of time and patience. I’m ordering a Ford tomorrow!

    1. So basically you cant drive! The difference between a short box truck and a long box truck is only a couple of feet and is in no way more difficult to drive around or park!

As for the truck being available! It takes time to ramp up all lines of production.

  17. Sometimes the desire to have the shortest truck possible doesn’t have anything to do with driver skill. In my case it has to do with speed and improved braking and steering. As Colin Chapman said “ adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere “. I like my trucks to be fun to drive as well as good utility vehicles.

    1. You mean you have to park your truck outside? I can see how that would put a strain on a person! That dealbreaker is ridiculous!

We agree to disagree! Why build a truck that 7 people are going to buy?

      1. The bird poop, pollen, dust, and tree sap messed up the hood of my regular cab long bed because it wouldn’t fit in the garage. Will be ordering a regular cab short bed when they are available. FYI, I’m in Nashville

Apparently GM is building them (Sierra, anyway) for somebody…maybe 2020?

In regards to the production comments Reg cabs still account for roughly 9-10% of sales which seems pretty weak but that is still some 70,000 trucks that they make good money on. Ram has dropped the reg cab maybe GM can pick up some sales there.
