About Cadillac CT6
The Cadillac CT6 is a full-size prestige luxury sedan. It slots above the mid-size Cadillac CTS and compact Cadillac ATS as the largest Cadillac sedan. The vehicle rides on the high-tech and lightweight GM Omega platform that is currently not shared with any other vehicles, though a full-size Cadillac crossover on the architecture has been rumored.
The current model was introduced for the 2016 model year and represents the first model year of the first-generation CT6. The 2017 model year saw a few minor changes, including the addition of two new exterior colors and darker finish taillamps. The 2018 CT6 introduced such features as Super Cruise, Rear Camera Mirror Washer for the Rear Camera Mirror, as well as an updated CUE infotainment system (to version 2.6).
For the 2019 model year, the CT6 receives a refresh, otherwise known as a facelift or mid-cycle enhancement (MCE, that includes revised exterior styling similar to that of the Escala concept, a new high-performance CT6 V-Sport model that was renamed to CT6-V, the new Cadillac 4.2L Twin-Turbo V-8 engine, a new trim level structure, and improvements to in-vehicle technology. In addition, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 gets the new GM 10-speed automatic transmission on all models, while the base model gets a new base engine in the form of the all-new 2.0L Turbo LSY engine, which replaces the last-generation 2.0L Turbo LTG.
The Cadillac CT6 is build at the following plants:
- GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant supplying North America and Middle East, and
- Cadillac China factory called SGM Jinqiao supplying China and Russia
In addition, the CT6 Plug-In model was built at the SGM Jinqiao plant for all markets, including the United States. The CT6 Plug-In was discontinued in the U.S. after the 2018 model year.
In November 2018, GM announced plans to discontinue the CT6 in North America as part of a restructuring plan that will look to shutter various plants, including the Detroit-Hamtramck location. But in January 2019, Cadillac president, Steve Carlisle, and GM president, Mark Reuss, announced that the CT6 will not be discontinued. However, production will be moved from the Detroit-Hamtramck facility to another plant. Another possibility is that the CT6 will be imported from China, where it will continue being offered. However, Carlisle stated that this is the least desirable option.

That is such a great looking car now with the refresh and TT-V8 finally. Such a shame they are cancelling it.
And you figure who would want to buy one now considering it will be an orphan in six months with falling resale value.
Offer Raven Black only, change name to Drapedin Black for a super premium upcharge!
Seriously, interior color choices is a little misleading. On the top of the line Platinum there are two choices—maple and black. Two interior color choices on your top model, indicative of a continual problem relegating them to nothing more than a high-priced mid-range vehicle!
Why? Why another grey? Do they really need four grays? And, why bother at all with new colors? This car is dead. Why are they still doing changes/improvements? The CT6 is one of the saddest products in GM’s history, ranks right up there with Fiero.
LOL. Fiero, I had forgotten about that one. Yes, another gray! I am at the point who cars about this car anymore? It is going away at least here in the states. So long.
The XT5 has lost its second place it is now 5th place
RX 111,641
Q5 69,978
GLC 66,727
X3 61,351
XT5 60,565
Fiero was like CT6, a landmark product for GM but somewhat undeveloped at launch. GM spent money to address its shortcomings (engine, transmission and finally suspension) only to drop it a few months after they finally had it right. CT6 has been crying out for a world-class V-8, more expressive styling, and a better interior since going on sale in 2016. It finally got two of the three (engine, styling) when the 2019 model went on sale in October. One month later, GM announced CT6 was being axed.
GM did this with Corsair also. I know Nadars book gave it a bad reputation but Audi show that you can overcome a bad reputation. How many folks remember the sudden excelleration ar even more recently Volkswagens diesel problems.
I made the mistake of haveing high hopes for GM after the Bankruptcy but the are still the same ol GM. Nickel and dime development and bring out a so so product. Then finally spend the money to get it right ( or closer to right in most cases) then turn around and cancell it. Oh I guess I should include the Cadillac Alante.,
Unfortunately, Machete Mary learned all to well the bad things of the Roger Smith era.
So now we are up to 4 shades of gray. FOR ONE MODEL OF CAR!!!!! Are people really this depressed these days? No blues, greens, any form of tan. This car deserves so much better than what GM is doing to it.
You finally got the CT6 right. Why are you discontinuing it???
The most commonly-reported issue in the CT6 forum is its transmission. A class action suit was filed last month, which includes other models: https://www.classaction.org/media/duffy-et-al-v-general-motors-inc.pdf
GM hasn’t got it right yet – but its a moot point now.
New style, new Engine, new Color and news of its demise.Way to go Cadillac.
Who cares about a new color for a car that doesn’t even have the confidence of its’ manufacturer. New dress on a corpse.
Ironic, (or poetic justice?) that Cadillac should name the exterior paint color after the city they’re abandoning for the car they’re abandoning.
In that respect, they could also name it Detroit Noir Metallic…
What a terrible waste all the way around.
Waste in the sense that the Omega platform and the CT6 were finally a way to compete with the Benzes and BMWs with large luxury sedans. Now with the one-two slap of CT4 and CT4, they will be competing with Acura and Lincoln instead.
Waste in the sense that GM spent literally a billion dollars to make it Hamtramck plant one of the most flexible it has including $300 million for the Omega, only to walk away from it.
Machete Mary is up there crying poverty. Why doesn’t anyone call her out on the billions of dollars wasted in these endeavors?
I am sure lots of people have called her out but none of that matters to her or the GM board. They figure the know what’s best for GM and their customer base no matter what the customer want. The customer want the best product for their money. GM says you get so so products and if you don’t buy them we just cancell them and move on no matter how much money we waste. Once in a while we spend lots of money and make the product better, close to what it should have been from the start and still cancell it. How is that for wasting money that they claim they don’t have. Oh by the way it’s the Customers fault because they didn’t buy their products only because the could buy better products elsewhere in many cases for less money. That GM’s way of thinking.
