GM’s Chinese Baojun brand has kicked off 2019 by unveiling a brand new logo. Called “Diamond Standard”, the new badge features a geometric pattern that simulates a cut diamond.
The logo will be used primarily on range-topping Baojuns, enabling the brand to differentiate higher-end models with higher levels of refinement, technology, and content from more basic offerings, which will continue using the current logo.

Baojun says that Diamond Standard logo preserves the essence of the original Baojun logo – the industrial representation of a horse – but incorporates new graphic elements inspired by modern art and fashion. As a result, the shape and light reflections make it look like a beautiful diamond with great visual tension, which transmits greater refinement and modernity.
According to SAIC-GM-Wuling, the new logo is in line with the aesthetics demanded by younger generations of car buyers in China, and expresses the four fundamental values of the Baojun brand: “open, creative, free and believe. ”
The first model that will wear the new Diamond Standard logo is the all-new Baojun RS-5 crossover SUV, which is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2019. The compact crossover doubles as Baojun’s first application of an entirely new vehicle architecture that will be used for the brand’s most advanced models.
Notably, the RS-5 is equipped with a Level 2 autonomous driving system, a feature typically available in much more expensive vehicles.
Baojun initially launched in 2011 as the second automotive brand of the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture (the first was Wuling). Since then, the brand has become one of China’s fastest-growing vehicle brands, accumulating over 4 million vehicle sales – a significant accomplishment recognized by car buyers and the press.
The launch of the Diamond Standard logo marks the beginning of a new era for Baojun, in which it seeks to establish itself as the leading national brand in the highly-competitive Chinese market via a new generation of vehicles that aim to democratize advanced design and intelligent technology.

Does it look like a wrench for a reason?
At first I could see the horse. Then I thought “it looks more like a lion”.
