Prepare a large grain of salt for this next story. A user by the name of “unlimtedPower” has taken to the Corvette Forum and claims he has insider, first-hand knowledge about the forthcoming mid-engine C8 Corvette.
He refers to this car as the C8 Corvette Manta Ray, a name we’ve also seen in the past via trademark filings. And the user begins their post with a humble disclaimer that he or she cannot share any more information and “if you don’t believe me then that’s fine.”
According to this information, the base C8 Corvette will be called the Corvette Manta Ray and feature an updated LT1 V8 engine that makes 520 horsepower. A dual-clutch transmission will be the only transmission offered, something previous rumors have also floated in the past. We’ve also heard the mid-engine C8 Corvette on video numerous times, and the shift points all sound like they com from an ultra-quick automatic gearbox.
In 2021, the C8 Corvette lineup will expand to include a Corvette Grand Tour and Corvette Grand Sport, per the poster. Allegedly, the Corvette team will do away with the Z06 name in favor of “Grand Sport.” We find that incredibly hard to believe, so have that grain of salt ready.
The “Grand Tour” model will allegedly feature a version of Cadillac’s Blackwing V8 engine with the turbos moved to the sides of the engine and put an emphasis on quiet cruising and luxury. The user said the GT version will have Cadillac’s fingerprints all over as a Cadillac team supposedly helped develop this particular model.
The “Grand Sport” will be the Z06 equivalent, per the anonymous poster, and feature the long-rumored 5.5-liter V8 engine.
Finally, the Corvette won’t be found solely at Chevrolet dealerships anymore, according to this “insider.” Instead, any GM dealer will be able to apply to sell the C8 Corvette, but the application process is reportedly stringent and very strict. Certified Corvette technicians will also be the only techs permitted to work on the mid-engine Corvette.
Some of this we can certainly believe, but we’re unable to corroborate the story laid out here. Our sources say not much of this is true, but Manta Ray is absolutely on the table for some variant of C8 Corvette.

I know that online advices from https://dissertationowl.com/blog/research-project-methodology will help you to write research project. It was useful for me and my college friends
I don’t have any sources but what’s with all the talk of the unveil being delayed by months over something to do with cooling? Is that the reason we haven’t seen a spy car in over a month? Are the tweaking something or getting all set for an unveil?
Speaking of cooling
https://www.corvetteblogger.com/2018/12/05/patent-application-details-c8-corvettes-engine-compartment-cooling-vents/
Wait, why does this car need Cadillac’s Blackwing TT engine? Wasn’t that engine suppose to be exclusive to Cadillac only?
I’m guess it is a game of technicalities.
Turbos inside the “V” – “Hot V” = Cadillac Blackwing Engine
Turbos outside the “V” = Corvette Engine
You can technically say they are not the same engine, albeit being the same block.
I’m an ancient sackbut and not an engineer, so I’m thinking Hot-V engines can go in the front where it’s easier to cool them, while outside turbos are easier to cool from side-entry ducts. Anyone got more info on this?
Scott3! This ain’t over yet…
That blackwing version with the Caddy team “all over it” and JDN leaving because he didn’t want Caddy product used in lower brands.
I might still snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Caddy mid-engine beast! Where do I sign?
Keep on dreaming.
Even then you had better buy it soon after it comes out as it will not last wrong.
Keep on dreaming.
Even then you had better buy it soon after it comes out as it would not last long.
Oh, boy, our resident Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) nutjob Old Trombone writing on here again.
Oh, boy…
You’re reading my stuff. Who’s triggered?
TDS =
“Russian officials can question American Officials. Because I said this from the official POTUS podium in front of the Russsian Pres on his podium, that makes it official”
“The markets need my leadership” seen the markets for the last year? Last month? Yesterday?
TDS is folks deranged by Trump into believing what he says. He literally gave America away to Russia in Helsinki. Don’t believe me? Watch the videos of him doing it….
Y’know, I came on this page to further my handbag-stoush with Scott3 over THE CORVETTE and whether a Caddy-badged version will appear.
I specifically keep my political triggerment reserved for GMA pages with Trump in the title, or the economic disaster that he’s bringing on us as seen in the layoffs and shrinking market and his welded-on-commitment to the obsolescing market for gas powered mobility.
But here’s ThanQ dredging up crap that just doesn’t belong here. But hey, your side is the one calling for “safe spaces” to surround Trump with no criticism. If you want me going political on every page here, go right ahead.
It makes sense to ditch Z06, ZR1, AND Grand Sport. Those names have equity but this is a new beast, and these are new times. GT is something I associate with Ford now and has been beaten to death, IMO.
The word all along was the base of the DOHC Turbo was going to be used by Chevy but with their own top end on the engine.
At least the speculation has been.
Also much more HP is expected than at Cadillac.
GM could not afford to do just the Caddillsc alone with this engine.
It made sense once the engine shop was moved to KY.
Turbo, intake and heads could be totally different.
No need for a hot v as in back you have much more room to work with. Note with the hot V the intakes and exhaust are flipped so new heads would be required and Chevy then can Tailor it to they needs. So this would change the engine much from the Cadillac.
Today’s cars are packed tight and with the new crash standards for crush space the hot V helps.
Typical GM.
Now I do understand why Johan left this brand. Bad news after the bad news. I guess we all must say ciao for the luxury and expensive rwd Cadillacs. I bet they are all dead now.
Expect more fwd and boring looking weak cadicraps. “New cars every six months, exclusive engines for cadillacs. New interior design… ” They lied. Now they are afraid to bring their Xt6 to Detroit, because they now it will be outclassed by Lincoln. That’s why they are quiet. Boring XT4 is outclassed by the Q3. There are spy pics of the Rsq3 already all over the Internet. Cadicrap can’t even make the v sport xt4.
Cadicrap will never become a world class brand. Because it is ruled by greedy, dumb people and bean counters.
I hate to say I told you so about Cadillac but I told you so. I thought they turned the page when they made the amazing hire of Johan but we now see GM wasn’t ever really that serious about bringing Cadillac back.
The XT4 is ok at best. Nothing to scream home about. I mean it doesn’t even have levers in the back hatch area to drop the rear seats. That is crazy to say the least. The Instrument cluster is once again borderline a joke when compared to the completion. Who knows what to expect from the XT6 now. Lincoln went all out and it shows in the Aviator.
CT4 and CT5 are allegedly both Tweener sized cars so once again no real competition to the established brands. No large Luxury Sedan now that the Tweener CT6 is cancelled.
No Roadster hell not even a convertible option.
It is just not sounding good at all for Cadillac. Time will tell but we all know deep down inside how this will end. They will sell cars but never be in the Top Tier Luxury with the Big German Three. Johan would’ve gotten them there. I’m hopeful that Cadillac will pivot really soon and go all EV to beat the Germans but that is probably wishful thinking on my part.
As far as the Vette is concerned, going Mid engine is brilliant. They need to price bump the Vette for it not to be considered cheap. We think of it as a bargain which it is but GM knows the Vette has amazing potential to make real money for the company. Just imagine when the 1000HP EV version hits the road. What will all the snobs say then?
Johan was a terrible hire. He wasted his time with Cars when the trend was obviously SUVs. He left the brand in a product mess.
Weren’t there TWO mid engine keyfabs leaked, one for Caddy? Caddy could have originally planned to have a version of the mid engine Vette for itself either JDNs departure or for any other reason GM decided to pull the Caddy version back under Chevy…Furthermore if there’s some truth to other GM dealers being able to order this, perhaps at the very least they threw Caddy a bone as a thank you for its involvement and will them special order it…
Chevy has updated most of its trim from LTZ to Premier…
If the C8 is as great as this guy say it will be with a price to undercut vehicles with half its
capability’s why can’t GM use that same mentality on everything it makes?
Chance are if they had or did do that they would not be in the middle of closing plants and laying people off.
Some brand is getting the axe, either Cadillac or Buick.
The brand left will then get GMC rolled into it.
With all the premium Chevy vehicles you can get, Buick is redundant.
