General Motors Korea recently introduced the refreshed sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro in South Korea. During a presentation event held at the AMG Speedway, located in the city of Yongin – about 25 miles from Seoul, the automaker announced that it began accepting advance orders for the updated model.
In South Korea, the perennial muscle car is offered exclusively in the SS version powered by the naturally-aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1 engine. Combined with the new GM 10-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, the gearbox produces a maximum 455 horsepower. and up to 455 pound-feet of torque. The incredible performance of the Chevy sports car further maximizes the appeal of authentic American cars that exist in South Korea.
“The New Camaro SS, inherits Chevrolet’s performance DNA and heritage as the original American muscle car, with exceptional segment leading performance and distinctive athletic and muscular design”, said Kaher Kazem GM Korea President and CEO.
In addition to the benefits awarded by GM’s all-new 10-speed automatic transmission, the 2019 Camaro SS features an updated exterior design that is bolder and more distinctive design. The SS model contains trim level-specific details for both the front and rear ends.
Up front, a bolder, wider (and occasionally controversial) grille is complemented by stylized headlights, with LED lighting for both the primary lights as well as for the daytime running lights (DRLs), creating a unique light signature.
Before you ask: yes, the South Korean-market model continues to wear the black mid-bar on the front fascia. We already know that Chevrolet is rushing to market an update to that design that paints that very bar in body color. As such, we believe that the updated fascia (with the body-color mid-bar) will make its way to Korea for the 2019i (interim) model year.
The rear end, meanwhile, incorporates a revised bumper cover along with an all-new set of neutral-density (clear) taillights. Other features at the rear include the black Chevy bow tie and double exhaust outlets that highlight the unique details of the Camaro SS.
Chevrolet didn’t make many changes to the interior of the 2019 Camaro, but did give the updated model GM’s latest infotainment system. Called Chevrolet Infotainment 3 in the case of the 2019 Camaro, the system runs through an 8-inch, high-resolution touchscreen.
In addition, the refreshed Camaro introduces GM’s innovative Rear Camera Mirror. Introduced for the first time on the Cadillac CT6 and Cadillac XT5, the feature outputs the video feed from a specialized rear camera onto a massive digital display on the rearview mirror, significantly improving the driver’s rearward visibility by increasing the viewing angle, reducing blind spots, and eliminating obstacles such as rear seat passengers, pillars, and the like.
The Camaro In Korea
The Chevrolet Camaro SS was first introduced in Korea during the Busan Motor Show in 2016, and has been well received by South Korean customers for its muscular design and energetic performance. GM Korea expects the refreshed, 2019 Camaro to reinforce Chevrolet’s presence in the nation’s high-performance sports car segment while improving the brand’s image among younger shoppers.
The updated 2019 Camaro is arriving at Chevrolet dealers across South Korea. Its initial price is KRW 54.28 million – about $48,000 USD (at current exchange rates). A new “Volcano Red” special edition model is priced at KRW 55.07 million ($48,800 USD).
The Chevrolet Camaro SS for South Korea is manufactured at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan, currently the only facility that the Camaro is manufactured for all markets where it is marketed.

What’s the Korean word for fugly?
Maybe its fugly, but it looks 100 times better than the non MCE model..
What’s the word for dominating all cars at performance at that price point?
well, just use the word “Camaro”
IMO GM need to base the 7th gen Camaro’s design on the Buick Avista. Make it a little more aggressive and avoid any childish or cheesy styling flourishes and it’s a hit. Also, fix the damn trunk opening. Drop the sill and widen the opening so it’s a proper trunk. I understand that it’s not possible to keep weight down while providing a full hatchback rear end with a sill down at bumper level, but surly GM can beat Ford in making the Camaro a practical daily driver.
Furthermore, GM needs to fire John Mack, the failed designer who created the abortion known as the 2019 Camaro SS. Terminate that chump with extreme prejudice.
To be truthful I don’t find the refresh hideous in anyway. But the part that looks out of place is the Bowtie. If it was in the grill section rather the bumper I feel it would look ok regardless of the color.
