This may not be the only high-power drift Corvette out there, or the very first one for that matter. But this C6 Corvette is a new build created by Matt Field for Formula Drift. Field is one of the most intense drivers and competitors in the series, demonstrating incredible talent and tricks on the track each and every time.
This C6 Corvette build was filmed in 17 episodes for a series called “Field Prep” by Donut Media. The 8-minute video above is the finale, showing off the preparation and installation of the suspension and exhaust system. Skip over to the 7:00-minute mark to bypass the shop talk and get right to the Corvette drifting.
The team starts off by getting the Borla headers, X-pipe, and rear pieces on, which all fit to perfection. Since the radiator is right above the exhaust on a Corvette, they heat wrapped it in an effort to keep it at cooler temperatures for optimal performance.
Next, came the suspension components – all handmade and TIG welded in-house at Part Shop Max in San Diego. Starting off with the shocks, the team was already met with some issues, as is common with new suspension systems. They had to modify the angle of the upper control arm, shorten the shocks, and fine-tune it for an ideal fitment. Last but not least, came the installation of the Wilwood brakes.
Once the car was ready to go, you see Matt Field sport some “ridiculous stuff” he ordered from the Wish app – an eccentric jacket and some “funny shoes” as he called them. Though, he does end up swapping that ensemble out for his racing helmet and suit.
A six-month-long build is ready to go. At the end of the video, Matt Field gets ready to drift the 1050-horsepower C6 Corvette on the track. It definitely does not disappoint.
