Watch The Exorcist Camaro ZL1 Come To Be: Video

Hennessey Performance built its reputation on developing high-powered performance vehicles, and one of its more recent stars is The Exorcist Camaro ZL1. It’s the name given to a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that has the company’s HPE1000 upgrade package. Production is limited to just 100 examples. The tuner uploaded a video that provides a peek behind the garage door at the company, giving a high-level overview of how Hennessey takes a stock 2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 and turns it into The Exorcist Camaro ZL1.

The Camaro ZL1 is already a formidable performance car when it rolls off the assembly line. Its supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine produces a ground-pounding 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough power to rocket the car from zero to 60 miles per hour in around 3.5 seconds. But for Hennessey, that type of performance is child’s play.

Before mechanics start tearing into the car tossing on superchargers and installing new cylinder heads, the company takes the car to the dyno for baseline testing. This is to ensure the vehicle is healthy before adding a massive wallop of horsepower. After that, the engine comes apart before a mechanic installs port and polished cylinder heads, a custom crankshaft, upgraded fuel and cooling system, and a new 2.9-liter supercharger.

After the install, Hennessey takes the car back to the dyno to tune. Things like air-fuel ratio and ignition timing are dialed in to give the car the best performance possible. After it’s tuned, Hennessey takes it to the track for final drivability and validation testing before delivering the vehicle to the customer.

The video isn’t a deep-dive into how the company turns a stock Camaro ZL1 into The Exorcist. Instead, it’s a quick-hitting piece that shows just how much time and attention to detail the company adheres to when upgrading a customer’s car. It’s easy to think tuners throw some go-fast parts on a car and return it to the customer, but it takes a lot more than that to turn your average performance car into a the 1,000-hp Exorcist Camaro ZL1
