Holden Special Vehicles has shifted its business away from building hot Commodore sedans and utes, to Chevrolet importer and Holden Colorado specialist. The latest in its new strategy is the HSV Colorado SportsCat R.
The HSV Colorado SportsCat R was revealed on Friday as a new limited-edition model to join the company’s range. HSV also sells the SportsCat in a standard “SportsCat” and “SportsCat+” trims. The SportsCat R, despite the racier name, doesn’t include any major performance enhancements, but it does look darn good with a black-out package and red trim.
The six-spoke alloy wheels are finished in gloss black and measure 18 inches. Wrapping them are Cooper Zeon LTZ Pro Sports All-terrain tires. A black grille and lower facia complete the blacked-out look.
The minor performance tweaks include an AP Racing brake package offered for the first time, HSV Sports Suspension and an increased front ride height for greater ground clearance. Power still comes from a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, which is paired with a six-speed automatic.
Inside, the HSV SportsCat R features sports seats wrapped in Jasmine leather and Windsor suede, which also makes its way to the instrument panel. Red stitching is woven into the leather-wrapped steering wheel, door trims and center console cover to carry on the red accents that adorn the exterior.
All of the extra goodies will set buyers back $65,990 AUD, or around $48,000 USD. The beefier AP brake package will add $1,400 USD to the price. HSV said production will be limited to just 100 units—98 of them for Australia and 2 for New Zealand. Those interested should move quickly, though. Production will start this month at the company’s Clayton South, Victoria, facility.
