If you’ve been keeping up with our latest Chevrolet Silverado HD news, the sideview mirrors on the new Silverado ZH2 military truck shown earlier in the week ought to look rather familiar. As far as we can tell, they are exactly the same towing mirrors that appeared on a 2020 Silverado HD prototype photographed last month, serving as evidence that the ZH2 indeed likely previews the all-new, 2020 Silverado HD.
The mirrors are quite distinctive, attaching to the 2020 Silverado HD‘s front doors below the truck’s beltline, and featuring sort of a dog-leg-shaped hinge design to bring the mirror glass up into the driver’s field of vision. The Silverado ZH2 appears to feature the exact same hinge and mirror design, even boasting the same high-mounted pair of LED indicator strips on the mirror caps.
Just as important, the Silverado ZH2 shown in Chevrolet’s teaser video this week appears to have a similar bulging hood design, Chevrolet-stamped grille bar, and slender upper headlight design as what we saw from Chevy’s 2020 Silverado HD teaser image released back in April. All this means one thing: if you’re curious about the design of the forthcoming all-new Silverado HD, you can safely look to the ZH2 to get an idea of what it might look like.
Far less strong is the likely relationship between the powertrains of the Silverado ZH2 and 2020 Silverado HD. The former will use a hybrid hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain for propulsion, giving it a total range of more than 400 miles with as much hydrogen as it can pack into its triplicity of 700-bar tanks. The Silverado HD, on the other hand, will use something a bit more conventional for its motivation, with a likely choice between a new Duramax diesel V8 and GM’s anticipated 6.6-liter petrol V8.
The all-new, 2020 Silverado HD is expected to bow next year, most likely at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. For more great Chevrolet Silverado news, stay tuned to GM Authority.

Definitely tough looking, maybe a little bit busy tho…
I was hoping for an upgrade to motorized extending mirrors in my next truck. Now it seems I will be lucky to have mirrors that extend at all.
