Matt Field, professional driver and Formula Drift competitor, has returned to the mountain that started it all for him. With his newly built C6 Corvette as his weapon of choice, Field drifted through Calaveras Road with astonishing precision that makes for an entertaining video.
The video is nearly four minutes full of some intense drifting action—the kind of action that could even make one Ken Block jealous. Field’s skills have him just gracing the guardrails of many corners and creating a smoke show locals likely saw from miles away. Oh, and his Corvette is making 1,060 horsepower. Talk about vehicle control.
Perhaps even more impressive than Field’s driving is the drone operator. The camera angles and shots are truly mesmerizing as the action unfolds, and we can’t count how many close calls the drone likely had with Field’s Corvette as it raced through the corners sideways. If the drone walked away unscathed, that’s almost as much of an accolade as the driving itself.
Of course, no drift is complete without a change of tires, and the roadway becomes an impromptu pit at one point to throw some fresh rubber on the Corvette about halfway through the sideways, some-filled tango. Have a look at the incredible driving in the video up above.

Apparently THE best drift car out there is the C6 Vette right now. The secret is getting out that with little more than drift knuckles and coilover mods the C6 becomes one of the best if not THE drift car to have.
Fortunately – or unfortunately – C6s aren’t what one would call cheap cars, even at used car prices. So Corvette drift cars will likely remain a cool yet only occasional sight at drift events around the country.
