About Chevrolet Camaro

The Chevrolet Camaro is a family of sports cars that includes a two-door coupe and two-door soft-top convertible as well as various performance variants such as SS, 1LE, ZL1 and ZL1 1LE. The legendary nameplate was first introduced in 1966 and went out of production in 2002, when the model was in its fourth generation. The Camaro was re-introduced in 2009 as an all-new fifth-generation model based on the GM Zeta platform.

The Camaro is currently Chevrolet's most affordable sports car, slotting below the Chevrolet Corvette. The current model was introduced for the 2016 model year and represents the sixth generation of the Camaro nameplate. The model rides on the GM Alpha platform shared with the Cadillac ATS and Cadillac CTS, though the majority of the architecture underpinning the Camaro are unique to it.

The 2018 Chevy Camaro represents the third model year of the sixth-gen Camaro that deleted the Camaro 50th Anniversary Edition and the Krypton Green exterior color, while adding the ZL1 1LE Extreme Track Performance Package. There's also an expanded availability of the SS 1LE Track Performance Package, which is now available on the 2SS Coupe, as well as the addition of a washer fluid level sensor.

A midcycle refresh arrives for the 2019 model year that introduces new, model-specific front and rear styling, a new trim level structure for LT models that adds a new 3LT trim, and a new 1LE track performance package for the 2.0L Turbo LTG engine. The 2019 Camaro also brings the new GM 10-speed automatic transmission for SS models, the Rear Camera Mirror, third-generation infotainment systems, and various other enhancements.

The gen six Chevy Camaro is assembled for all markets by GM USA at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Lansing, Michigan, USA.

  1. Great start but they could use another shade or two of blue. Enough with the battleship grays.

    1. Definitely agree. i wish they’d bring back more of their older colors (like the whole entire palette from the 1968 & 69 Camaro)

  2. If I had the opportunity, and the money, I would love to redesign the whole entire lineup of General Motors and Mopar. People still love muscle cars and off road SUVs, off road pickup trucks, diesels, and street trucks even though there are alot of hybrids and electric cars running around but there are still alot of people out here who hunger for high performance V8 cars. Ford has gone too far to the left which is why i didn’t mention them but honestly (to me) there is still hope for GM and Mopar.
    GM
I wouldn’t ever make the mistake of taking an iconic name and putting it on a mundane vehicle and I’d rename alot of vehicles in the Chevrolet lineup, reviving alot of names in the process but my main focus are the Muscle cars As i’ve said before, the Corvette should be removed and placed under the Cadillac umbrella as the car has evolved to a point where it needs to be under a more elite umbrella. At this point, we would see the birth of a brand new Chevrolet Camaro on the new Alpha-2 or VSS-R platform with a new engine lineup and body styling. The Mustang-esque fastback design would give way to a more coke-bottle shape that caters more specifically to the 1969 Body style with a slightly larger trunk space, a wider, longer and flatter trunk opening (still smaller than the Challenger) more of the lip-spoiler design, tri-section sequential LED taillamps, better visability, a similar (evolutionary) front end design, different wheel choices and of course, revised engine choices. The interior design would be a modernized version of the 1970-1973 design for a less obtrusive instrument cluster and thinner A-pillars. The base model LT Camaro would focus on personal luxury with an available 4.3L V6 engine and the current 8-speed automatic transmission. Without the use of turbochargers along with adding cylinder deactivation, improved flow to the cylinder heads, a better fuel injection system incorporation a dual-injection style system, a well designed exhaust system tuned for maximum flow and minimum sound, a comfort magnetic ride system, and of course, all wheel drive. Being that the car is still a Camaro, the car would still have a sporty nature to it with a peppy 350hp along with available Berlinetta package with the Bose stereo system, quiet gorilla privacy glass, leather interior with heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats, navigation, sunroof, sound insulation, chrome 18″ wheels, etc. Above this car would be the Camaro RS with an available 400hp 5.3L V8 engine and 8-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. The car should have a large (non-brembo) brake system, performance tuned suspension, dual exhaust, regular exhaust manifolds, All wheel drive with the Automatic only, a sporty cloth interior with RS “Contour” seats , 6-speaker stereo system, optional navigation, optional sunroof, a very small 1″ tall lip spoiler, optional RS graphics, 18×9″ performance wheels with all season performance tires, optional RS ground effects package and a few other things would complete the RS Camaro package. Above the RS would be the awesome Z/28 Camaro. This car would be the true cream of the crop Camaro with a 425hp 5.7L V8 derived from the 5.3L with an LT1 head and cam package, lightweight internals, a dual fuel injection system, standard GMPP cold air intake system and 90mm throttle body, Tri-Y exhaust manifolds, dual mode exhaust system, the available 10-speed automatic or 7-speed manual transmission, 4-piston Brembo brakes standard, standard 1LE suspension system with drive modes (tour, sport, dynamic, weather), 19×10″ Z/28 wheels that should be satin grey spoked with chrome centers and chrome lips that mimic the Chevy Rallye wheels that came on the ’69 Z/28 with optional 20×11″ Z/28 5-spoke satin graphite wheels that mimic the wheels from the 1970 Z/28 front and rear wrapped in ultra high performance all season tires, 3:91 gear ratio rear with HD rear axles, Z/28 badges and stripes, a unique Z/28 hood (’68 Yenko ram air style) a 3″ tall lip spoiler with wicker bill option, Navigation, full Pioneer 12-speaker stereo system gorilla privacy glass windows and windshield, AGR seats similar in design to what the Buick Regal GS has but with an alcantara center that’s heated and cooled, an alcantara and leather steerng wheel with a completely different design but still 3-spoke and aggressive, Round fog lights that are more centralized to the front fascia but not obstructing airflow through the grille, a Z/28 aero package (similar to the Corvette GS Z07) package which adds side splitters, a front lip, and a wickerbill to the rear spoiler, smoked red and black housing tail lamps, blacked out grille and trunk pannel area with red outlined black bowtie emblems. Above the Z/28 we have the Camaro SS. Now, it’s no secret that GM is producing a new 6.6L V8 gasoline engine which equates to 402ci (true camaro fans already know where i’m going with this) Why not give the Camaro a 6.6L V8 with the LT1 valvetrain, bump it to 495hp/485tq, dual injection, 10-speed auto/7spd manual, magnetic ride (tour, sport, drag, track, weather) 1le type suspension, big Brembo 6-piston brakes, launch control/drag mode, 5-spoke chrome and black SS (Magnum 500-style) wheels with concave spokes and chrome lips (with other optional wheel choices of course) hockey stripe graphics, dual heat extractor hood, taller 4″ rear lip spoiler with gurney flap, factory aero-package, black housing tri-sequential LED tail lamps, Recaro interior and call it the SS-396 (since GM is trying to come up with “Cool” marketing names). Then above that you have your ZL1 and ZL1 COPO Camaros. The ZL1 would be a 580hp 7.0L (427ci) car with a drivetrain, suspension and braking setup similar to that of the current ZL1 while the COPO Camaro would be a supercharged 7.0L 750hp ZL1 with a mission to destroy the drag strip and the track and be barely street legal all while doing so.)
Beyond the Chevrolet Camaro, there should be a mid-sized Performance sedan known as the Chevelle and it should be the Sedan version of the Camaro with trim levels such as LT, RS, the Chevelle SS-396 and Chevelle Z24 ( I know, the Z24 was the code for the ’67 Impala-427 it’s okay) All of the equipment from the corresponding levels of Camaro should make their way over to the Chevelle (except the RS Chevelle should get the Z/28 Camaro equipment). The car would have a lot of the styling cues of a 1967 Chevelle SS both inside and out but still be a completely modern an aerodynamic package.
Lastly under the Performance umbrella, there should be an SUV and what better SUV name to reintroduces that says hot rod other than the Chevy Nomad and yes it’s styling should have a modern evolution of the 1956 Nomad and it should be a lowered, Body-on frame VSS-T platform vehicle that is designed to go toe-to-toe with the Dodge Durango, all the way up to the Durango SRT-392, meaning that this vehicle should start out with an AWD 4.3L 350hp V6, a mid level Nomad RS with a 425hp 5.7L V8 and all wheel drive with magnetic ride, Brembo brakes, etc and then an SS-396 Nomad with the 495hp 6.6L V8, 10-speed auto, high performance all-wheel drive, huge Brembo 6-piston brakes, 22″ hot rod style wheel options, dual mode quad tipped exhaust systems integrated into the corners of the rear fascia, four doors, a taller (Current camaro) style dash and instrument cluster, comfortable, performance Recaro seating, premium stereo, etc. Lastly for the Street performance lineup for Chevy would be the return of the Silverado SS. Although a 454ci V8 won’t reside under the hood, a 560hp 6.6L Supercharged V8 with a 10-speed transmission, performance 4×4 drivetrain, performance lowered suspension, cowl hood, Brembo brakes, 22″ SS polished and black wheels, red outlined black bowtie emblems, red and black interior, black exterior, tonneau cover, crew cab-short bed, quad tipped side exit exhaust system exiting in front of the rear wheels, molded running boards with openings for the quad exhaust tips, black housing lamps, and a few other things would all be fitted to this truck with a Luxury-Performance Cheyenne Silverado falling just below this with a naturally aspirated 500hp 6.6L V8 under the hood with the 10-speed auto, performance 4×4 setup, Brembo brakes, 22″ wheels lowered magnetic ride performance suspension, etc but with the quad tipped side exit exhaust exiting behind the rear wheels, and more of emphasis on sport luxury (think AMG) with amenities such as heated and cooled seats and performance steering wheel, powerful stereo, night vision pedestrian detection and all of the fancy tech, sunroof, privacy gorilla glass, etc along with the high country variants getting a two-tone classic paint scheme.
There should be off road performance too and the Tahoe should be the vehicle to receive a K5 blazer package with a lifted off-road Fox Suspension (not a raptor competitor) burly off road all terrain tires, bead lock wheels options, big brakes, comfortable and composed ride, body cladding, black grilles, brush guards, rugged but comfortable inteirors that can be hoesed out, snorkle intake options, dual exhaust system with quad tips, a good 4×4 system with Dana-30 axles, and that kind of stuff. There should also be a 2500HD Scottsdale off-road Silverado pickup with the Duramax diesel with upgrades to the horsepower, Allison Transmission, Dana Spicer Ultimate 60 axles, snorkel intake, stacked exhaust, a special bed cover to accomodate the exhaust stacks, 35″ tires 6″ lift, 20″ Teflon coated bead lock wheels, brush guard, LED lighting, rugged & comfortable interior, premium stereo, etc. That should be the Chevy Lineup
    Dodge
Dodge is already an awesome lineup but there’s so much more Dodge could be doing with what they’ve got going on. Me personally, I’d drop the Challenger, make the Charger a coupe, revise the Coronet as the sedan, keep the Durango, bring back the Dakota, bring out the Ramcharger and do a few tweaks to the Ram truck lineup. Here’s kind of how it would look
Dodge Charger: The Charger would take over for the Challenger and bring in that famous swoopy Coke bottle body but in a larger than pony car mid-side coupe on the upgraded current platform. The engine choices would change slightly as the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine would remain but with major upgrades to all of its components for better reliability and a bump to 320hp along with a performance AWD system, Pursuit brakes and a performance suspension which pretty much makes the base charger the Charger GT and that’s what it would be named. Next, the 5.7L Hemi would be bumped up to a 5.9L Magnum V8 with the Apache top end including cold air intake, throttle body, intake manifold, heads, a better camshaft, and header style manifolds along with the active valve exhaust system. Topping this would be the Charger Daytona with the new 7.0L 426-Hemi V8 pumping out 520hp and receiving and upgraded 10-speed torqueflite transmission, Brembo brakes, adjustable suspension with drive modes, and a more centralized dual exhaust system. along with upgraded aerodynamics. Topping that would be the Charger Hellcat Redeye with the 797hp Hellcat V8 and the upgrades from the current challenger redeye. Next would be the Coronet sedan which would have the base AWD GT, the 5.9L R/T the 426 Superbee and the Coronet Hellcat Redeye. The same theme would continue for the Durango and Dakota minus the Hellcat variants. The Ram 1500 would get a new 5.9L R/T variant that has the Rebel attitude but setup as a street truck along with a 426 Rumble Bee and a 797hp Redeye Daytona and of course the off-road Rebel 5.9L, the 525hp off road Rebel TR and the off road Rebel TRX with 707hp. Along with all of this would be a Ramcharger SUV that would be a Tahoe-sized SUV with an off-road package with a 430hp 5.9L V8, Dana axles, Torqueflite transmission, loud dual exhaust, 33″ All Terrain tires, bead lock wheels, jeep-like interior, etc.
Now of course, both GM and FCA need their hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles and honestly that’s where Buick and Chrysler come in. Those two brands are perfect nesting grounds for those kinds of vehicles but honestly, Chevrolet and Dodge should be where the muscle is at. Along with some regular cars like an all new Chevy lumina & Berretta or a Dodge Intrepid & Avenger. I mean sure if you want to have an SRT-4 Avenger or Chevy Berretta SS to compete in the sport compact market with the new Chevy 2.7L 310hp turbo-4 (which i’d bump to more like 350hp) or a new SRT-4 2.4L 350hp Turbo I-4 with AWD, Brembo brakes, performance exhaust, 19″ wheels, performance tires, recaro seats, body kits, spoilers, performance packages, etc be my guest. but these cars should appeal to the masses with fwd-based AWD systems and fuel efficient turbocharged i-4 engines producing no-less than 275hp and 300lb-ft of torque and getting about 30-32mpg highway. This is how a car lineup should be and actually if I were dodge, I would bring back Plymouth to go toe-to-toe with Cadillac because Cadillac is the one really taking over the “premium performance” segment of GM like what Pontiac used to be while Buick is become what Cadillac used to be. Just a thought if I could redesign the American auto industry.
