Supercar fans likely recall the special Holden “Project Sandman” racer, which debuted in 2014. Now, racing team Triple Eight and Red Bull Racing have put the car up for sale.
Project Sandman debuted ahead of the Castrol Edge Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercars race four years ago and has since been used for development work. Most notably, Triple Eight and Holden used Project Sandman to develop the twin-turbo V6 racing engine the team originally planned to run in this year’s Supercar season. However, Holden shelved the project and decided to stick with the company’s 5.0-liter V8 Supercars engine.
Since then, Project Sandman has had its twin-turbo V6 yanked from the hood and the V8 engine is back in its place.
One lucky buyer will own a seriously special car. Project Sandman has put F1 star Daniel Ricciardo behind the wheel, as well as numerous Supercars stars such as Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes and Steve Richards. Greg Murphy also drove Project Sandman last year to show off the stillborn twin-turbo V6 engine ahead of the Bathurst 1,000.
We don’t have a price for Project Sandman, but Aussie Touring Car dealer V8 Sleuth confirmed Triple Eight has put the car up for sale. We don’t imagine the purchase will come cheaply, however. Have a look at Project Sandman blasting around in the video above.
