Flat-Plane Crank C6 Corvette Z06 Offered For Sale

Remember that flat-plane crankshaft swapped C6 Corvette Z06 that we were drooling over last week? It is now available for sale on eBay, and contrary to our original report, it doesn’t have a modified LS7 under the hood. According to the seller, the original 7.0-liter unit was replaced by a 5.3-liter LS before the crankshaft conversion.

This is not that surprising, as the sheer mass involved with the LS7’s rotating assembly doesn’t lend itself to the high RPM’s created by a flat-planer. The flat-plane crank enhanced 5.3-liter produces an impressive 560 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, and spins all the way up to a Ford Voodoo surpassing 8,500 RPM. Other technical highlights include:

The owner claims that this car was built to be a road course weapon, and based on the build list, we are apt to believe them. A stock C6 Corvette Z06 is already a competent machine on a road course, and the high quality suspension upgrades present here have to further the car’s abilities. The next owner of this car is going to have a C6 Z06 experience as unique as this conversion, as the owner claims that this is the only naturally aspirated flat-plane crankshaft powered Corvette in the world.

As the automotive industry continues to move to towards downsizing and turbocharging, this flat-plane C6 Corvette Z06 is a delightfully old school speed machine. We love this thing, and have no doubt that the next owner will never get bored of the Ferrari-esque scream this Z dumps out the back.

  1. Nice engine but really why mess with a C6 ZO6? Leave the LS7 in the ZO6 and build that.

  2. I’ve got to (respectfully) call BS on a couple of the assertions in this piece…

First, a stock LS7 will spin 7,500 vs a stock 5.3 limited to 6,000. So, to suggest an LS7’s titanium rods and valves won’t support the engine speed afforded by a 5.3’s steel and (aftermarket) Inconel pieces doesn’t hold water.

Second, there’s no scenario where LS7 heads are going to fit atop a (very) small bore 5.3 block. Even LS3 heads barely work on an LS2 block with a 4.00″ bore, and won’t work on a 3.90″ bore LS1 block. So suggesting the even fatter LS7 heads on an even smaller bore block is a non-starter.

This was low hanging fruit. Look deeper and you’ll find more. This doesn’t make sense.

  3. This looks stupid. It’s a really expensive way to add 55 hp.

  4. I would also like to add that the Corsa exhaust is specifically tuned for the frequencies of a specific engine which is generated in part by the firing order. By changing that, the Corsa exhaust is basically inoperable in cancelling out unwanted noise and frequencies. That’s why this car sounds like a bucket of marbles.

  5. Who really gives a darn about this car?
