Driver Of Cadillac XTS Shot By Police After Drag Racing

An Alsip, Illinois police officer shot the driver of a Cadillac XTS who was reportedly drag racing this past Wednesday. The Alsip Patch reported the driver did not obey police orders to step out of the vehicle and began driving towards officers. Two officers suffered minor injuries.

The suspect is 25-year-old Jamal Campbell of Chicago, Illinois. Campbell was shot twice by the officer and remains in stable condition in the hospital. The report said Campbell has a history of violence, and at the time of his arrest, had a warrant for his arrest in Indiana for dangerous drugs.

The drag racing occurred around 2:00 a.m. Officers arrived after reports of a Cadillac XTS and Dodge Challenger drag racing through a neighborhood but didn’t locate the suspects initially. After pulling into a parking lot, officers located an idling XTS with the driver inside and police ordered Campbell and a passenger to raise their hands. He disobeyed and began driving towards the officers, who were standing in front of their police cruiser.

The officer said he could not get out of the way and fired several rounds. Eventually, the XTS came to a halt when the driver struck several parked cars and two police vehicles. Per standard protocol, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave until an investigation concludes. Both officers have clean records with the department and have been recognized for their doings over the years. It’s also the first time either officer has been involved in a shooting.

Alsip chief of police has a requested the Illinois State Police conduct an independent investigation aside from Chicago Police to ensure no conflicts of interest.

    1. Does not matter. Those vehicles will be in the impound, maybe post-impound auction off due to foolishness by suspects who had no business drag racing in the first place, let alone own nice cars like these.
