Though we’ve already outlined the various improvements in store for the 2019 Chevy Volt, we have yet to shed light on the PHEV’s Blackout Package.
Assigned RPO Code PDZ, the Blackout Package for the 2019 Chevy Volt was added for the 2018 model year as a Limited Production Option (LPO), which means that it is comprised of official accessory-level Chevrolet parts installed onto the vehicle by the dealer.
Now then, here’s what the package includes:
- Front and rear Black bowtie emblems (SFZ; LPO-level item)
- 17-inch split 5-spoke aluminum wheels with ultra-bright machined finish with painted gloss black pockets (SJH; LPO-level item)
- Sport pedal kit (SBZ)
Pricing & Availability
The package is a $1,995 option that is available on both of the 2019 Chevy Volt trim levels – LT and Premier.
The package is not available (during the order process) with the wheel lock kit (SFE, LPO item) or individually with any of the features included in the package.
The GM Authority Take
Though it’s nice to see some personalization options for the 2019 Volt, we don’t think the package goes far enough.
For instance, an option called the Blackout Package should literally “black out” the bright elements on any vehicle on which it’s offered. In the case of the Volt, those bits include the chrome window moldings, the shiny grille and the Volt lettering on the liftback. This package does not do that, making it somewhat incomplete.
So while the idea behind the package is sound, the execution falls short.
Comments
How about $300 instead
GM under the Chevy brand, always under delivers on package options…
I go back and forth on offering dark gray/black grilles, but I always remember why it is likely they don’t (and why I have not Plasti-Dipped mine on my ’17 Summit White Volt) – you end up with a Cruze. While I have no issue with the Cruze’s design, I want my Volt to look like a Volt. I did do the Bowties, though, as gold simply isn’t acceptable.
IMO, a proper blackout package should have simply added to the extensive black the vehicle already features – blacked out window trim where it is currently chrome, black bowties (which it does have), completely black wheels (not just bundling in the already-available optional wheels) and perhaps black Volt script on the side (by the mirrors).
As I drive around, it’s pretty amazing how many black Chevy bowties I’m seeing these days. Some are factory, many others are aftermarket replacements, or vinyl, or plastidip.
In my opinion, there isn’t a single Chevy model that looks better in gold than black.
For right now, GM is making extra profit selling the black bowties, but in a year or two, they will be faced with a decision.
My thought is to perhaps go with a 100% chrome bowtie. No gold. It would need some detail work to not look boring, but it’s time for a redesign anyway. I think they could pull it off.
First off the Bow tie is just not an attractive symbol. Anything you can do to make it disappear on the car is a plus
Chevy Volt Black Out isn’t much of an original design of its own is it? I mean where i am from, Honda Civic has the similar and better design of this version.https://www.assignmentprofs.co.uk/
