The GM Authority Take
The Canyon’s 31 percent U.S. growth rate during the second quarter was the second-highest in the segment, outpacing the 21.5 percent average growth rate of the segment as well as the growth rate of the Toyota Tacoma (up 22 percent) and Nissan Frontier (down 15 percent). The Canyon’s corporate cousin – the Chevy Colorado – posted an even higher percentage increase in sales of nearly 47 percent.
The Canyon’s Q2 2018 U.S. sales performance keeps it in last place by overall sales volume in its segment, but something tells us that the model has the highest Average Transaction Prices among its direct rivals.
We believe that Canyon sales increased in Q2 due to a mix of the following factors:
- A desirable product in a growing segment
- Healthy sales to fleet and commercial customers, which GM has been focusing on from a sales operations standpoint
- Healthy incentives at the retail level

About GMC Canyon
The GMC Canyon is a mid-size pickup truck marketed by GM's GMC brand. It is currently GMC's smallest pickup truck, slotting under the full-size GMC Sierra. The current model was introduced in 2015 and represents the second generation of the Canyon nameplate. It rides on the GMT-31XX platform shared with the Chevy Colorado, as well as the international-market Chevrolet Colorado/S10 and Chevrolet Trailblazer. As of September 2018, the GMC Canyon is offered only in the United States and Canada; it is not offered in the two other markets in which GMC does business - Mexico and the Middle East.
The 2018 GMC Canyon represents the fourth model year of the second-generation Canyon. The vehicle remains highly competitive in its segment, offering two gasoline engines and a diesel motor, which is a segment exclusive. As opposed to its Chevy-badged brother, the Chevy Colorado, the Canyon does not offer an off-road-specific model like the Colorado ZR2. However, the Canyon does offer a luxury-focused Canyon Denali model. Some of the biggest criticisms of the second-gen Canyon include a lack of various desired features wanted by many present and potential customers, including a moonroof, a sliding rear window, and an extreme offroad model.
The 2019 GMC Canyon represents the fifth model year of the second-generation Canyon. The vehicle sees new exterior colors and a new set of bright silver 17-inch wheels on the SLE model. Additionally, the 2019 Canyon gets new set of infotainment systems that represent the third generation of GMC infotainment systems, a second in-cabin microphone for the front passenger, a high-definition Rear Vision Camera on some models, UltraSonic Rear Park Assist, a heated steering wheel on SLT and All Terrain models, and 6-way power driver seat on some models. There's also a rearrangement of USB ports in the front and back.
A midcycle refresh for the 2020 model year is expected to bring revised front and rear styling along with interior and powertrain updates. There's also the expected introduction of the Canyon AT4 to replace the Canyon All Terrain. The GMC Canyon is built at the GM Wentzville factory in Missouri operated by GM USA.

So at………210″ L x 79″ W x 70-71″ H, the Ridgelines width puts it in the full-size pickup truck segment.
Silverado 206-240″ L x 80″ W x 74″ H
Ram………209-238″ L x 79-82″ W x 74-78″ H
F 150…….209-251″ L x 80-86″ W x 75-79″ H
So then shouldn’t the Colorado/Canyon length put in the full-size pickup truck segment as well?
Col/Can..212-225″ L x 74-77″ W x 70-72″ H, or is this purely inclusion to broaden the info provided.
The latter – “an inclusion to broaden the info” and perspective.
There is also the fact that most Ridgeline customers have the same traits and demos as midsize truck buyers…
You say the GMC Canyon has 2 gasoline engines & 1 diesel motor? Since when is a diesel a motor? Get your act together! Motors are for electric vehicles in todays world.
Your little late on this one, the term motor has always referred to electric. How often do you tune in to watch “enginesports” on TV?
Ok I see your point But look in any Vehicle manual & see if you can find any reference to the subject, why do they call it the engine? If any one said ‘Drivers start your motors’ at races such as Indy they would be laughed of the circuit.
Motor is both smoother looking and smoother to pronounce. Both of which are favorable to the media where ear and eye candy rule. I myself use motor (and fuel) more then the other!
Say them both slowly, very little sinus function in “mootoor” compared to “ennginnne”!
Not that I’m a speech therapist or anything!
Exactly. That’s why you ‘usually’ hear them say motor with the car, and you never hear the ‘electric engine’, while the correct nomenclature is ‘gas engine’ and ‘electric motor’. ‘We’ know it, as that an ‘engine’ takes fuel(raw) and makes it’s own energy/power , and a motor is a unit that takes energy and converts it.
An engine is nothing more then an air pump that converts the energy in liquid fuel (which ever type it is set up for) into heat (inefficiency or waste) and motion.
