Here’s The New Shock Color For The 2019 Chevy Bolt EV

The 2019 Chevy Bolt EV adds three new exterior colors to its color palette – Shock, Green Mist Metallic, and Slate Gray Metallic. Today we get our first look at Shock, which the Bolt shares with the 2019 Sonic – which is fitting given that both vehicles are made at the same Orion Township plant.

The GM Authority Take

It’s wonderful to see Chevy introduce a bright and fun color like Shock to the Bolt EV’s palette, as the hue matches the playful and fun personality of the host vehicle, similar to that of the Sonic. Here’s to hoping that the color sticks around and isn’t a one-and-done kind of thing.

  2. This will be a great color in warmer climates such as Central/Southern Florida, and the SW United States.

    1. It just shows that the marketing dept. doesn’t have a clue, and that they are in charge. A fun color maybe for a mid-teen girl. -but, I guess they figure that Dad’s gonna get them whatever they want no matter how much it costs. -Not!

      1. Correct.

You go to a classic car show, okay? What do you see? People fawning over glossy mint. Butterscotch. Teeles.

But can MODERN cars have these friendly ‘foodie’ colors? OF COURSE NOT! I mean… they might sell.

        1. You guys need to study demographics here to understand what’s taking place.

The Bolt is an alt-energy vehicle that currently sells to alt-lifestyle people. Do you think they will be attracted to this color?

The Sonic is in the same boat for a slightly different reason: it’s made at the same plant, and its purpose is to appeal to a very young demographic, about a third of which are first-time car buyers. These folks actually do want to stand out, especially in “loud” markets – South Florida, the metropolitan cities in California and New York. These areas alone make up an overwhelming amount of car sales around the country.

That said, GM often gets blamed for not offering colors that are “exciting enough”. Here they are offering an exciting color… and yet they still get blamed for it being too exciting. They can’t win, can they?

Ultimately, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to buy it. And as for “glossy mint”… stay tuned 🙂

          1. Forgive me, Alex, but either this color isn’t coming across in photos or the color is neon urine.

          2. Yeah. I’m just not with with you on this one Alex. An exciting color would be black light blue or stectraflame purple, -not a chartreuse pastel.

            1. Alex is 100% correct. This is a color meant to atrract a certain demo. The fact that it doesn’t appeal to some of you is proof that it is for a CERTAIN DEMOGRAPHIC. Understand and appreciate the business purpose before critiquing it for crying out loud.

  7. Same color as safety cones and some fire trucks. Could also be on Highway Dept vehicles. They can find it in a snow storm.

  8. Great EV. Terrible colour.

I mean someone somewhere likes it, but the colour of a car is really an open ended question that only the buyer can answer.

  9. I must say the Bolt design is so gorgeous this urinary tract infection inspired color doesn’t even ding it.
