Today, we arrive for some seat time in the 2019 Cadillac XT4. As usual, we invite readers to pen their questions, comments and concerns in the comment section below.
The XT4 is an important new vehicle for Cadillac, marking its first compact crossover ever. It also comes after rivals have had years to cement themselves as strongholds on the booming segment. We’ll put the 2019 Cadillac XT4 through its paces to see if it’s up to snuff with rivals.
Cadillac will have two XT4 variants to sample: the XT4 Luxury trim and XT4 Sport trim. Recall, the luxury crossover ushers in Cadillac’s new “Y” trim strategy. Buyers start with a base Luxury model and either select a Luxury or Sport path as he or she climbs up the trim hierarchy. Luxury models feature typical chrome and shiny bits with standard red taillights in the rear. Those who opt for the Sport model will find more blacked-out trim pieces and clear LED taillights. Base pricing for the 2019 XT4 starts at $35,790, though options can quickly turn the compact crossover into a mid-$50,000 vehicle.
The top-of-the-line Premium Luxury or Premium Sport trims start at $40,290. Luxury-trimmed models add leather seating, a suite of active safety features, and more. The Sport trim sees the same upgrades, but ditches chrome for black accents and a pair of clear LED taillights at the rear, as mentioned. All-wheel drive is a $2,500 option regardless of trim.
Packages to add to the top-of-the-line Premium Luxury model include a comfort and convenience package ($1,050), enhanced visibility package ($1,500), technology package ($1,650), driver assist package ($1,100), cold weather package ($850) and driver awareness package ($770). We’ll get as much experience with the added goodies as possible.

Comments
Does it feel like the future, like a great leap, like the fulfillment of all the promises of Johan dy Nycsshen for the rebirth Cadillac?
Is it worth getting the upgraded speaker package for $1,500?
How does the 2019 Cadillac XT4 behave going up hills or steep roads.
How does it compare to the Buick Encore, it’s next closest GM cousin?
The XT4 is not in any way related to the Encore. Nor is it similarly sized.
What are your impressions of the interior design? Feel? Functionality? Roominess? Seats? Comfort?
Is it quiet? How does it feel to drive? Nimble? Detached?
How’s the power?
Annoyances?
Who is this targeted at? And do you think it’s a success or letdown?
Don’t worry about those things. It’s a GM vehicle just buy it. ?
Reggie, I actually want to know the same things you do. The It’s a GM vehicle was an attempted joke. I would like to see some answers to the many questions asked.
Compare it to driving an XT5 in sport mode….. and an ATS.
How is the rear visibility with no rear quarter window? How does it ride compared to an XTS? What is the ground clearance and how hard is it to get in and out of? Does it exceed expectations?
Where are the fog lights? Does it have a sunroof shade? Your assessment of NVH, ride, handling, acceleration, braking, power, fuel economy, transmission shifting?
Simple. Does it suck.
Do hot girls and/or guys check you out at stoplights?
How strong is 0-60? How refined is the engine compared to the former 2.0T? How quite is the engine at idle and at highway driving? What is the exhaust note sound like compared to the former 2.0T turbo (LGX)? What was the real world MPG did you get at city and highway, provided that you did not heavy-foot the pedals? How refined is the ride over broken pavement and smooth roads? Was wind noise noticeable with all windows and sunroof open? How comfortable are the seats? If applicable, how good are the LED lights at night?
How does this compare to a Volvo XC60/40 and the new Acura RDX? as far as the interior and power?
Just need to drive it myself to compare to Audi 2.0T AWD. Quickness, smoothness, shift points, Etc. Is there a start/stop button you can push right after pushing the ignition. Are the seats soft leather, do they feel nice, like Audi. Ill see for myself.
Can you turn off Start/Stop like you can in all of the XT4’s competitors? If the answer is no, you can stop here. If not, please provide some insight on the following:
How is the interior space for front and rear seat passengers?
Is the visibility good or does it have thick A pillars and big blind spots?
How quiet is the interior?
Is the engine as smooth and responsive as the Audi or is it closer to Volvo?
How is the latest version of CUE? Can you sneak a preview of that?
How many times can you make it roll over at 60 mph?
If the Sport has the adaptable suspension, is it as smooth as the normal when not turning?
What happens to the handling with 3 or 4 people aboard?
If you take your foot off the gas, does it jump into a much higher gear?
does it have technology and stuff???
How’s the interior build quality? & How does the interior stack up against the competition?
How does it drive, and how does the chassis feel relative to other E2XX vehicles?
Do you think it may get the new 2.7T engine as an option in the next few months? I won’t consider one without more power than my 2.0T ATS.
I agree Rob, I won’t consider one without more power than our 2.0T ATS AWD. I would like to drive one for myself though.
member12 : you can turn off ‘stop/start’ —Hooray!
I am interested in the plug in version that was listed as a possible option about a year ago. When will this be available? I have been driving electric since 2011 and wouldn’t even consider a straight gas powered car.
Guy – a PHEV variant was an expectation on our part, and there is nothing official on it yet.
They’d have to announce it first before we could tell you “when” such a potential model will be available.
How long is the embargo? When will it hit showrooms?
I’ll share driving impressions on Monday. Early production builds should be rolling off the line from Kansas City now.
Under normal foot pressure, how is the throttle response from idle and a dead stop?
Any insight on the new UI for CUE would be awesome. I think this is the first application of the latest gen CUE.
Can you tell of reduction to lack of noticeable vibrations transmitted thru the steering wheel from broken pavement based on information from media.gm “Cadillac-first tuned vibration absorber integrated into the airbag behind the steering wheel”?
Any negative comments? How easy is entrance/exit? It looks like a great SUV. I’m not sure how running on 2 cylinders will be.
I think it may be the greatest selling Cadillac ever. No crossbars are listed on the price list.
Does the XT-4 have levers in the Cargo/Boot area to drop the rear seats?
Or do you have to open the rear doors to drop the seats?
I have seen two videos where the person actually opened both doors to drop the seats and I hope GM was smart enough to offer levers as an option at least.
