2019 Silverado Features Improved CornerStep Rear Bumper

Chevy’s all-new 2019 Silverado introduces a diverse abundance of enhancements over its previous-generation, K2 platform predecessor. The all-new T1 platform delivers a solid foundation that enables significant weight savings for improved handling and fuel economy, a revised exterior brings Silverado design to the modern era, and various new technological features make the truck more convenient from which to work and play. One rather small, yet important new feature is an improved CornerStep rear bumper.

CornerStep

For those not familiar intricately familiar with the terminology, the CornerStep Bumper is a GM convenience feature/technology that provides easier access to the box of a pickup truck via two features:

  1. Integrated steps at each corner of the rear bumper, and
  2. Ergonomically-shaped handholds built into the box rail protectors

CornerStep was first introduced on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (and its GMC-badged brother) before making its way to the second-generation Chevrolet Colorado (and Canyon).

2019 Improvement

For the 2019 Silverado, the CornerStep rear bumper features larger cutouts to better accommodate steel-toed boots.

Though the change may seem insignificant to some, those who wear steel-toed boots (along with other forms of bulky footwear) will certainly appreciate the improvement.

Moreover, the larger cutouts also make it easier for those with normal footwear to step into the footholds.

Availability

The improved CornerStep rear bumper (RPO code BMN) is a standard feature on all models of the 2019 Silverado 1500, regardless of trim level or options package.

  1. don’t forget that the new cornersteps also allow room for placement of the blind spot/cross traffic hardware, without making a large unlit patch on the tail lights, where they’re located on Ford and Ram trucks.

    1. I think it looks like a million bucks from the side and back. And though the interior is completely lackluster, it’s the front end that kills is for me. Whoever thought the massive trojan helmet-mutton chops fenders with big air scoops looked good was wrong. Looks are usually subjective but this particular styling element seems to be universally disliked much like the SS front end of the upcoming Camaro. Some things just don’t work and Chevrolet really needs to start recognizing these things before sales tank.

  4. THE BUMPER MIGHT BE FUNCTIONAL BUT PRETTY UGLY

  5. Did anyone see where motortrend tested the high country and averaged 24.2 on the highway mpg? EPA needs to update their system. The 5.3 dsf is liable to get 26 highway!
