Comments
87% of all 19,170 Chevrolet sales in July are realized with five models, Aveo, Beat, Cavalier, Trax and Spark, the only ones with sales of more than 1000 units. 42% of all Chevrolet sales are imported from China, the Aveo and the Cavalier. All other Chevrolet sales are below 1000 per model.
Sales of GMC, Buick and Cadiallac are — in my view — insignificant with less than 500 per brand and in the case of Cadillac even less than 100.
Consider these figures when hearing the trumpetting of a purported new NAFTA agreement with Mexico, which for the Mexicans is only the blueprint for the necessary tripartite negotiations including Canada, and the possible results of these principles for the future of the automobile industry in NAFTAland.
PS:
The last sentence gives the figure of 124,045 units as indicating the sales of the first 7 months, thus clarifies the awkward formulation of the first sentence where this number appears as for the month of July only.
The trumpeting behind the revised NAFTA agreement for the U.S. revolves around two items:
1. A reduction of China-made parts for NAFTA-built vehicles (production of these parts will likely move to another low-cost area such as Mexico, hence Mexico benefits), and
2. A reduction in Mexico-produced vehicles exported to the Untied States or Canada… in other words, an increase in U.S.-built vehicles at the expense of Mexico (U.S. benefits)
Looking specifically at the item, there were 466,910 Mexico-built GM vehicles exported from Mexico in the first 7 months of 2018. That’s what the trumpeting is all about… allegedly.
It will be interesting to see how it all works out with Canada, but I think they don’t have any more hands to play at this point.
PS: the opening paragraph you refer to (124,045) contained the YTD figure, rather than the July figure. Corrected.
mexican illegal immigrants up 120% for the decade. I can’t understand why wages stagnated for 20+ years. What could it be ?
