The folks at Katech have another option for those on a budget, but looking for plenty of power. The LS3 416 cubic inch short-block engine is the affordable mill of the LS3 stable with the potential for 900 horsepower.
In the video, Katech says the goal was to figure out how to make the LS3 platform more affordable for customers after building 427 cubic inch Ls3 V8 engines in the past. Without changing the block or other components, a stock bore size and longer stroke achieve the LS3 416. And it’s done without the cost of sleeving to reach 427 cubic inches.
A new GM block fits with top-shelf components and is backed by a one-year warranty if Katech installs the engine in-house and performs the calibrations. But, for those with engine swapping and calibration experience, the 416 can be a do-it-yourself project, too.
According to Katech, the engine is good for 700 horsepower as it stands, but when adding boost to the mix, 900 hp is doable. Have a look at the overview right up above.
