A day on the track and three high-performance American sports cars. It can only be a comparison test. This round comes to us from Top Gear, which brought the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 and the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon to see which brute is best.
Each car shines on the track in its own way, though the Dodge Demon is a bit of the odd man out. The Demon is meant to tackle straight lines and smash quarter-mile times. However, Top Gear still found it a hoot to toss around on the track, despite the track surface not so ideal for its main mission.
With the Corvette ZR1 and Camaro ZL1 1LE, the two Chevys were at home. Both attacked the track in glorious fashion, but only one car won the day.
And with some surprise, it’s the Camaro. With a “whiff of mid-life crisis” found in the Corvette, the Camaro ZL1 1LE was the track star of the day. Actually, the Corvette ZR1 placed last behind the Dodge Demon, which was dubbed the coolest car of the day. Have a look at the test for yourself above.

LOL, the Dodge is like a ’60s muscle car. Good for straight line performance but unable to compete in the turns, essentially a juiced up lummox. Back then the Europeans led the way with handling and chassis tuning, so it’s ironic that Dodge, now owned by Fiat, would return to classic American mediocrity.
GM gets it, and to be fair so does Ford. Dodge? As I always say, the problem with buying a Dodge is you then have to drive a Dodge.
If money was no object, people will buy the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 especially as it becomes an instant collector’s car given that the Corvette will be moving to a mid-engine layout for the 2020 model year.
It always amazes me that people buy sports cars from other companies, GM is far and away the best at all around performance. Straight line, oval track, road coarse, on the street.
I just hope this horse power super car faze that we are in now continues for decades to come!
